Personally, I like the guy but he’s a quirky, California head case for sure and I just can’t see him in NY. But … with Hackett as OC and if the Jests get Lazar too, they will be formidable, at least for the year or 2 that ole Aaron ‘may’ have left. In any case the hacks are going to have a good time. As if Saleh and Wilson weren’t enough. Thoughts?
This whole ordeal makes me realize he is an attention whore and "love me some me" guy.
It's a coin flip to me which happens.
Just yesterday I was going through the Packer's season records. Rogers had a 15-1 team, three 13-3 teams, and a bunch of teams with more than 10 wins. And in all of those instances, he only once took his club to the Big Show.
The Jets fans, as long-suffering as they are, are going to be disappointed.
It's a coin flip to me which happens.
You really think so? What is the other choice, sign Brissett? Draft another QB after Zach Wilson? I think there's a ton of risk both ways. They are built to win now, do they go journeyman? I would hate to coach Rodgers, but I think I would try to win the big one with him. A couple of recent markers with Tampa Bay and LA bringing in vet QBs to win the big one.
It's a coin flip to me which happens.
Or it just won’t work and it wouldn’t be that dramatic. Saleh and Douglas keep getting QB wrong so their jobs should be on the line soon anyway. Rodgers is a massive upgrade but not worth the cap hit. If they do this deal and it doesn’t work it’s on them.
This is a 2 years tops play. But for the Jets, unlike the Bucs and Rams, the AFC is stacked. Rodgers probably puts them on par with the 2nd level contenders in the AFC (Miami, Baltimore, Jax), maybe slightly above. But are they ahead of Buffalo, Cincy or KC? I don't think so.
Realistically, I think this move would put them into the 2nd round of the playoffs and then get bounced, which has been Rodgers' MO recently of post season failure playing on more talented Packers teams than the Jets currently have.
This feels like another Boomer Esiason and Brett Favre deal for a big name QB who is still good but past his prime.
And this isn't Green Bay where the fans are all cordial and defferential to him. If he struggles in a midseason game against Miami or something and he tells the fans to screw off during his Pat McAfee interview, the Jets faithful will turn on him.
they know it, AR knows it, and the Packers know it, too. that's why they are (reportedly) "only" looking for one 1st for AR, as opposed to several. they know it's either retire or become a Jet for AR, and they want some value out of this, too.
if you're the Jets, a 50/50 roll of the dice that equates to Super Bowl contenders / massive Favre-esque failure - you take that bet all day long. you might not be a contender again for another 10 years, so you maximize whatever kind of window you have and you hope AR drinks the kool-aid. and that move seems much less risky in an environment where Deshaun Watson is fully-guaranteed and one-year wonders are getting $30-40m per season. AR is a HOFer and has some tread left on his tires. he makes the Jets an instant and formidable contender.
On paper they are talented, however last year 2 of their wins were against Cleveland which was a gift and they should have lost to Pittsburgh. The end of the season their coach and team blew many opportunities. Perhaps they are overrated and still need to face a tough AFC conference.
They knock us calling us jealous Giants fans, that team can’t lose enough.
I would love Rodgers to decide to retire and leak something unflattering about the organization that turned him off.
“Yeah it’s New York but it’s not the Giants” would be a dream quote. Rodgers going to the Jets, and the way that fanbase would be planning a parade, would be a runner up to how insufferable it would be to win a championship.
Jealous Giants fans? We just made the playoffs with a roster of practice squad players, we have a great coach and so far a capable GM who is demonstrating to be a great hire. “Joe Douglas nailed the draft”. Yeah no crap! Losing seasons afford you top picks and you had 90 draft picks last year.
I’m so sick of that team.
He doesnt get a SB with the jets, I dont see it..so what is the point?
He doesnt get a SB with the jets, I dont see it..so what is the point?
1. He’s owed a ton of money and 2. The Jets actually have a good roster and if Rodgers plays well they are a playoff team for certain and then anything can happen.
If I’m a Jets fan I want this to happen, although I’d be cautious on the trade package itself. Whos the last Jets QB that was as talented as an even 40 year old Rodgers?
I asked on another thread (and got zero responses), would it really be so bad to sign Baker Mayfield? Jets have a better roster than Tampa right now.
BBI has a hard time waiting for anything.
Watching all of these FA signings while you sit an wait would certainly kill the hamster.
Florham Park is the land of second chances.
This whole ordeal makes me realize he is an attention whore and "love me some me" guy.
He's surely looking to do something "dramatic" for the attention. Jets deserve him, although there's no way in hell he wants to play for that 🤡 org.

Jets with Rogers would be on the level with the Chargers. They can fight it out in the playoffs to determine who is the greater playoff choker.
i think packers similarly making a good decision to move on and get whatever they can get.
For the Jet fans, I understand the consternation.
They already lived through this once with Favre and him basically saying "well I got no choice but to go to the Jets". Now it was of course, fruitful for the first 11 games, but it went south quickly and there is probably no Jet fan who has a nice thing to say about Favre in 2023.
For the Coach? Its def a huge gamble.
If they win with Rodgers, its going to be all about Rodgers, which would be ok with Saleh for sure. Winning is winning and its more fun than trying to spin why whatever QB is starting that week deserves it.
But if they lose with Rodgers, sure Rodgers will be tarred and feathered by the fans but he will still be Aaron Rodgers and when he retires he will get a hero's welcome when he comes back to Lambeau and be celebrated when he gets into the HoF.
But Saleh? He will be fired for sure and since he is still pretty young and not as abrasive as Mangini was, I'm sure he still find opportunities. He may have to wait awhile for a HC chance again, but he would def end up on a defensive staff somewhere. However, he would no longer be the head coach of a team that he helped build a very talented roster overall for.
Its inevitable that Rodgers will eventually make his choice to come here, its probably already done because I don't even see Woody accepting the idea that his team will need to wait on him during FA. Plus its great national attention for the Jets and we know Woody loves the media attention.
As far as Rodgers the person goes, I know most of the people who say "I love how he annoys the right people" have a certain agenda. But people need to remember he was a pretty popular, maybe not "beloved", figure in the country before the vaccine stuff went down and he tripled down on becoming space brained type personality.
Here's an article from Apr 21 (link below), just months prior to the whole controversy, where his guest host run on Jeopardy was being praised by everyone. The guy wasn't treated unfairly by people his entire career, I remember the court of public opinion being on his side when the whole situation with Greg Jennings happened.
He happened to dip his toe (insert obligatory pic of him picking at his foot on McAfee show) into what is/was a polarizing topic and he thus polarized opinion on him. There's hypocrisy on both sides here because I'm sure if he said he supported vaccines, the people who love him now would say he needs to shut up and throw the ball. But since he said the opposite, the other side doesn't like him being vocal.
I personally always found him to be offputting with his body language. When Rodgers is winning, he's the coolest and smoothest guy on the field.
But when things aren't going his way? Watch out, you're gonna get pouty face Rodgers with shoulders slumped. Go back and watch the 2011 Divisional Game. Go and watch the playoff games vs the Niners. That is the Rodgers that if Jet fans are forced to see, will drive them and the media nuts. No one cares about the other stuff.
Unless of course, he starts to bring his complaints about the local media and the fans to McAfee's show.
I'm ready to watch the Rodgers Show in Jet green for sure.
Aaron Rodgers ‘Jeopardy’ Hosting Reviews: Twitter Approves - ( New Window )
There are real questions about Lamar's health at this point. For a QB that depends on his legs, he's gotten banged up a lot...and we don't know how much tread is on those tires. Can he make the transition to a drop back QB, and is he worth the contract if he can't dominate running? Don't forget how quickly Cam Newton fell off the curve after a few great years.
I think the uber plan for the Jets is to bring in Rodgers to righten the ship (get them into the playoffs), and help mentor Zack Wilson to take over after a year or two. IMO, Douglas is still committed to Wilson as a starter, but is aware there's no way he can start next year.
If Rodgers does stiff the Jets, then I think the only thing left is to try and package their #1 with players and other draft choices to move up to get one of the QB's in this draft. That would buy time for Saleh/Douglas.
The AFC-E is going to be an internal slugfest like the NFC-E is.

lol if Douglas is doing this to "fix" his Milf Hunter complete ass blunder. Which he likely is.
If he comes here and sucks and the team sucks? It will get ugly. Welcome to pro sports in any town.

Could've gone for Lamar Jackson.
- Strong feeling still that he will be a Jet. It is NOT done yet, still working through some things. Nothing finalized and GB still needs official word from Rodgers.
- Some Jets players have been frustrated about the process dragging out.”

This. The whole "NY Media" and fans running the show is so overblown. Rodgers has been absolutely shit on ever since his vaccination status thing happened. He is used to it.

I'd tell NYJ brass to pivot to LJax pretty soon if this continues. I like Rodgers, but his arrogance is starting to know no limits.
Of course, LJax wouldn't be a picnic either because of the self-representation. But he's younger and brings different assets to the table.

So there’s still a chance he retires 🙏

If he can still play well all this nonsense talk about locker rooms and torpedos and “ny media and fans eating him alive” is pure nonsense. We take ourselves way too seriously in this town. No one is eating shit unless we’re turning into cannibals.

It’s not about asking questions post game. Life in the tri are area stinks for athletes, IMO. You can’t go anywhere or do anything without being hassled - media, fans, wackjobs, etc and every little thing is under a microscope. I didn’t think he’d want to deal with all that. But there’s only so many teams that are interested and can afford him so he may not have a choice.
