it seems they are definitely targeting a type and that type is players who are equally able to line up in the slot and out wide. hodgins fits that profile too.
but they don't exactly condemn Thielen's productivity. I posted them in contrast with fellow teammate and 3rd WR, Osborn. Osborn played 200 or so less snaps and caught about 10 passes less.
Maybe Thielen has something left but he's not going to take the top off a defense anymore and that wasn't his forte when he was 27.
I'd think we can do better, but maybe not...just seems like we have so many middle / slot guys why get another one who is older...but what do I know.
This was my initial take as well. His NBA stuff is almost always wrong and this seems like a safe "I'll throw this out there" because we KNOW the Giants need WR's.
I have no view on whether we should go after Thielen but
I did watch a session of the combine where he was doing the color commentary and I have to say he's a likable guy. He wasn't invited to the combine coming out of college so he paid his own way to a local tryout combine (that you paid your own way into) that he said was hilarious - guys were there who had no business being there and some were asked to leave after one drill. He did well enough to get invited to some regional combine and then the rest is history. I would think he'd want to stay in Minny if possible though, I think he is local and went to Minnesota State.
Only 70/716/6 last year, and he played every game. We can’t use a guy like that at any price, right?
.
Good point, just wonder what he has left for speed?
I wouldn't say 'at any price', has to be good for Giants.
He is still a good route runner, just wasn't going to get many touches with Minny.
The issue is price. What does he cost is the question. Robinson showed promise but I'm far from convinced he's some stud and who knows when he will be back to full form. Whatever that is.
Please tell me the receiver u we contract whose better right now? Incentive laden deal im in
He's been a real gamer his whole career. For low/med single digits, I'd jump on him even if he's a hair past his use by date. Jefferson had a big impact on Thielen's numbers.
He's definitely lost a step, but he's a very dependable vet. He can help the WR unit for sure. If I'm in charge, I'm signing a guy like Thielen(who won't cost a lot at all) and trading for a WR and then hope a WR we like is available in the draft as well.
Im so sick and tired of hearing Jones doesn't have enough weapons. Im all for kicking the tires here.
Draft a WR1, Sign another Vet WR, Fix the interior OL, and pray Evan Neal takes a step forward. Our offense can finally be fun to watch next season!
I'm sorry, but this just isn't realistic. Just draft a WR1? First off, whats the hit rate on WR draft picks in the draft, specifically for the first year? Secondly, whats the hit rate when you pick 25?
If the Giants get lucky enough to find a WR1 in the draft, he probably won't be a WR1 right out of the gate. The draft is a crapshoot, you can not rely on draft picks, specifically in year 1.

The Panthers are not signing WR Adam Thielen today, but there is mutual interest and discussions are on-going, per league source. So this still could happen at some point as Thielen, visiting with the team today, weighs his options.
NYG has checked in with just about every receiver it seems.. Thielen, Chark, OBJ, Agholor, and Hardman are just a few of the names I can recall right now.

Thielen isn’t even a #2 anymore. Ankle injury/surgery and age sapped him
2014-2020: 9.1 Yards/Targets
2021: 7.6 YPT
2022: 6.7 YPT (KJ Osborn 7.2)
Playing with KC would certainly polish that number a tad (like it did for JuJu) but Thielen’s not close to the player he once was
