All-Pro CB James Bradberry is returning to the Eagles on three-year deal worth $38 million, including $20 million fully guaranteed and another $6 million in incentives, per sources. Total package is $44 million.
i wouldnt be shocked if he turned down comparable aav extensions last year and probably not that much less guaranteed $ either. he had a 13m base so i assume he was being offered something like 2 year extensions for a total of 30m with a chunk of it guaranteed (so not far off what he just got).
They were in bad cap shape heading into the offseason but they re-signed Kelce, Graham, and Bradberry plus they just signed Penny. They also have two 1st round picks which will cost them over $10 million in cap space.
2022 - 1/7M gtd up 10M w/inctvs
2023/2025 - 3/38M 20 gtd up to 44 w/inctvs
4/45M 27 gtd up to 54M w/inctvs
when teams agreed to trade for him he had:
1 year, 13m left (i forget exactly how much was gtd but i think 3-4m so half of what he got from philly)
i think the extensions offered then were probably around 2x23m, 14m gtd (what gilmore got), so in total there was probably a 3x36m, prob the same 20m gtd, maybe a bit more and some incentives. btw in the thread below from last year we discussed that exact contract (3x36 with 20m gtd).
in total i think he probably came away between 5-10m ahead (half of that in terms of actual take home), but imo that wasn't worth the risk because there were a lot more ways for his year to have lowered his value than the marginal gain. he took on a lot of risk. https://corner.bigblueinteractive.com/index.php?mode=2&thread=620480 - ( New Window )

Oh I agree, emphasis lost in plain text just OK as in average outcome.
He had about as good of a season as he could have had, and ended up with a similar deal to what was available last year.
are going for broke for one more year. They have so much void money pushed out already, and seems they will have to do more for this deal. They have roughly $35MM a year of void dollars in each of the next two years, and that is before they cut anyone or lose anyone to injury. Really hard to see how they can sign Hurts and still have a workable cap situation. Maybe in 2024, but in 2025 and beyond just not doable.
I am not convinced they plan to keep Hurts. Don't be shocked if they take a QB in the 1st or 2nd round.
RE: Are they not going to extend Hurts this offseason?

Hurts would have to be an absolute fool to play this year on his rookie contract. He does not strike me as a fool.
Like Gilmore, he's been solid but they are both old for CB.
They didn’t play good QBs and when they did he got lit up.
