A few thoughts

Jim in Forest Hills : 3/15/2023 9:21 am
It sounds like asshats and media had the Giants looking at WRs specifically Jeudy. Then Denver raised the price, does that mean NYG then went to plan B - Waller?

I think so and I dont think Jeudy is in the cards anymore. I cant see a 2nd round pick being used there.

I can understand the notion, of why didn't we sign this guy, he looks cheaper/same production but I think the Giants are trying to get their guys. Like Waller - he has question marks, but if he can execute close to what they are thinking - a Kelce type impact through Kafka, then watch out. All of us Giants fans are excited about the 2 TE sets.

When Waller is healthy he is what I thought Engram would be. He is really fast on the field. I also think he will get a ton of targets, watch out for him in fantasy.

I know everyone thinks the Giants aren't ready for the Super Bowl but imo once Jones signed that $160M deal, the SB was on for like right now. Resign Barkley, get some guys and lets hit a 2 year window to win it all and that includes this year.

Won a playoff game - division should get a little weaker, Giants win window is right now.

To further that I think edge rusher becomes more and more prominent - I think the Zach Allen interest was real and they will be looking at 5T and ER in Rd 1.

Two Smiths from GA - Keion White from GT a 5T that can get to the QB. Nolan Smith - pure speed off the edge. If the Giants want to win vs the Eagles/49ers, they will need a lot of heat off the edges.
Don't

assume that anyone knows what is going on with specific players. No one was talking about Waller. Jeudy is being mentioned because the fans have locked in on him. Could he be on the radar? Who knows? What we do know is the Giants have said they are locked onto smart wide receivers who can play multiple positions. We also know they think WR is a major weakness and are going to address it.

As for any "windows", let's close the gap on the Eagles and Cowboys first. We're not even competitive with those teams.

in the locker room AFTER the Philly loss, he and Schoen are NOT thinking "rebuild". Their goal is SB EVERY year, even as they are continuing to build, they are looking to win, now!
I really think affecting the QB and protecting Jones
Jim in Forest Hills : 3/15/2023 9:29 am : link
closes the gap quickly. Neal has to play better and on 3rd down, Thibs/Ojulari have to get home vs PHI/DAL.
5T is a big need, just look at the depth chart

Zach Allen was probably real, but the $ he got was too rich right now. I was rooting to sign him. They've got to get Dex signed, re-do Leo, and have the $ allocation sorted in the near future. I also expect them to look at Edges and keep the pipeline flowing up front, as well as CB.

The pivot was from Schultz/Gesicki to Waller. Giants wanted to upgrade both TE and WR. Waller acquisition doesn’t change the need at WR. Schoen understands the importance of his picks, he’s treading carefully but they’re definitely shopping for a WR.
I don't believe Waller is plan B,
Kmed6000 : 3/15/2023 9:30 am : link
I believe he is a part of plan A which is to get playmakers and good players. They still have a lot of holes in the WR room, I don't think they are done looking for good value.

This ^ Exactly!
If you think we're opening a 2 year window

you haven't really paid attention to what Joe has said all along. He's building the roster and looking for sustained competitiveness mostly via the draft. The QB and his deal is just one part of that. It doesn't change the team's strategies. If Jones is good, he's a part of the sustained competitiveness and if he's not, the Giants will move on.
Good job Jim, as always.

Stop the run and we massively close the gap with Philly and Dallas, imv..We made a nice start with Bobby O and Nacho. Nacho will help when LW and DL are out/taking a breather. We will do more in that area I believe (FA possibly and of course, the draft)..

Of course they are looking to win now. That is the point of playing the game.

Now there is a difference between winning and being Super Bowl contenders. Huge difference. Three free agent signings do not close the gap, very much, on the Eagles or Cowboys. Temper your expectations. Get realistic so you won't be surprised at another 9 win season in 2023. Getting to the playoffs two years in a row is a major step forward.
I wouldn't be surprised if they flipped 3 + 5 picks for Jeudy
JonC : 3/15/2023 9:34 am : link
but need Denver to come down off their ask for him.
Of course the goal is always the Super Bowl
gersh : 3/15/2023 9:34 am : link
How could you ever tell your team different?

But when spending money and building a team, you have to be realistic and spend wisely. The Giants need to hit on another draft (or maybe 2) to have the talent.
Though, with Daboll running the show and the Giants history of over-achieving - who knows?
I agree, I think trading is done
Capt. Don : 3/15/2023 9:35 am : link
unless it is a day 3 pick.

My hope is the focus now turns to versatile IOL (Dalton Risner) and perimeter CBs (Rock Ya Sin). Those both feel like 1 year deals.

And if we can, bring back Julian Love.

Playing chicken. You know who I would like to pry from DEN? Tim Patrick. He got hurt last year but he's a sleeper imo. That kid can play.
I wonder if Denver might accept this year’s 3
Big Blue '56 : 3/15/2023 9:37 am : link
and next year’s 3 (wherever that winds up as) as some kind of compromise if they move JJ at all?

Grit, do you think the WR will be via trade or free agency?

When they thought they were ready to compete after a somewhat encouraging finish to the 2020 season under Judge and Graham , they went out and got a TE to complement Engram , spent 72M on a WR in Galloday, and then a first rd pick on Toney.

Yes different Regime but similar circumstances in the receiving core right now. This team still badly needs a vet lead dog at WR and possibly a 1st or 2nd round pick at the position as well.
I will say I appreciate all the thoughts/rumblings from the asshats

Yeah, hopefully their decisions are a little better than the last group, but we need 3 good additions(FA, trade and draft w a premium pick). I still think the trade market is going to give us our best value.
I am not sure they are that linier...Waller should not affect the need
George from PA : 3/15/2023 9:58 am : link
For WRs.....I wouldn't want to give up any more draft picks, especially for rentals..but adding a stud WR would be great.

I wish Waller was more dependable(staying on the field) and younger....but no one is doubting his talent....and a 3rd is worth the risk.....and to be honest, his cap is fine.

Love the MLB....I would love Calais on the cheap! Reunite with Wink!!! Nacho should be on a 3 DL set....

Corner is still a major need and they need to figure out what else is needed to solve OL!
I’m sure the Giants want to add another vet CB at the right price.
gersh : 3/15/2023 10:13 am : link
But, unlike WR, there is young talent there. Flott has shown to have excellent cover skills. And we still don’t know what we have in ARob.
