Giants roster update, 10 a.m.
Added: LB Bobby Okereke, DT Rakeem Nunez-Roches, TE Darren Waller
Retained: RB Matt Breida, LS Casey Kreiter, P Jamie Gillan, OG Wyatt Davis
Departures: OL Nick Gates
Expecting some more action today.
Stupid question...Is there a deadline to get under the cap by? Asking cause I figure LW, Dexter etc news should come asap?

Figure Okereke roughly slots into Golladay's cap spot, figuratively, but they need contract re-do's, stat.

you always need to be under the cap but it wont be an issue. they will hold moves before making them official until they make whatever counter moves.
i think there's a chance an adoree extension comes first because the john jones and bradberry deals both came in pretty reasonable with 13m and 20m guaranteed respectively. i think we will see him add some years on in return for similar guaranteed $. i also expect them to convert some of waller's $ into bonus to create another 5m or so in room.

today? They would need to be cap compliant.
4pm today.
Right, but technically* the moves made this week aren't official until then?

That’s when we see the rest of the league join in. Not just those with money
Trade wise it will be interesting to see if we go after a lesser guy (pelt wise) or a more seasoned VET (Hopkins, Cooks, etc).
CB: Anthony Averett, Sean Murphy-Bunting, Tre Herndon, Greedy Williams, and Rock Ya-sin
S: Johnathan Abrams, Nasir Adderley, Jaquan Johnson.
I do wonder if they will pull that trigger on OBJ. He's the highest upside of the free agents and won't cost a draft pick to trade for or the comp formula. Also, if you listen to the Banks & Papa podcast, Banks was talking about it. I sometimes wonder if Carl lays some groundwork for the front office/coaches in his podcast to either send messages to players (getting on Tae Crowder last year, the year before was calling out Matt Peart, etc) or the fans for PR purposes. He's been waiving the flag to sign OBJ.
So some Cap machinations should be taking place.

Thanks Go Deep. I wonder if the Giants do sign Greedy, would that also be considered a 2 for 1 move in that the Giants would hope he helps smack his brother back into the right direction as a contributor and get more out of him along the way.

The new league year opens at 4 pm (est) today. Expecting some more moves for the Giants. They’re still monitoring multiple WR options.
As for Tuesday…
Day 2 Giants moves:
Trade: TE Darren Waller from Raiders for third-round pick
CB: Anthony Averett, Sean Murphy-Bunting, Tre Herndon, Greedy Williams, and Rock Ya-sin
S: Johnathan Abrams, Nasir Adderley, Jaquan Johnson.
big johnson fan. wanted him in draft when they chose ballentine a few picks ahead of him. thank you gd13.
out of the corner group i think like murphy-bunting best, but averett played like the 2nd most man coverage snaps under wink in 2021. he'd be a good fit probably cheap bc he missed a lot of last year with a broken thumb.
CB: Anthony Averett, Sean Murphy-Bunting, Tre Herndon, Greedy Williams, and Rock Ya-sin
S: Johnathan Abrams, Nasir Adderley, Jaquan Johnson.
Rock Ya-Sin!!
maybe i'm nuts but i'm really excited about beavers. i want to give him a chance before drafting over him
He had a very good year in 2022.
CB: Anthony Averett, Sean Murphy-Bunting, Tre Herndon, Greedy Williams, and Rock Ya-sin
S: Johnathan Abrams, Nasir Adderley, Jaquan Johnson.
not really in love with any of those guys, especially SMB. i feel like every bucs game i watched i thought that guy stunk. guess i'd lean towards greedy williams but i have no preference as long as they don't overpay and don't get SMB.

wouldn't expect another from UFA.

Beat me to the punch with this comment. I suspect they’ll draft more depth which is needed, maybe they sign a low end starter to compete with Beavers. Rest of the cap needs spending elsewhere.
CB: Anthony Averett, Sean Murphy-Bunting, Tre Herndon, Greedy Williams, and Rock Ya-sin
S: Johnathan Abrams, Nasir Adderley, Jaquan Johnson.
Appreciate the tidbits, thanks.

Thanks. I was hoping the Giants would pick up a DB (or two) prior to the draft, even though it's a deep draft there. I just wish they'd pull the trigger on a DE, too.
I don't see them signing another one in free agency.
They have the new player from the Colts, Davis, Beavers and also the kid, McFadden? (regardless of what you think of him).
I could see a CB and/or a WR in some form or another...
They don't have that much to spend, just more than last year.
He is by far the best option out there now.
While not quite Slay, Rock Ya has graded pretty well according to PFF in man coverage and has some size to complement the smaller Jackson on the opposite boundary.

will cost but he would be a great CB to go with Adoree. I’d love to see them pull that off somehow.

I was interested until you said PFF graded him..:)
Likely to add another in the draft, I don’t see another reason FA signing at ILB.

I’d be happy with SMB, he’s not a #1 CB, but is solid in coverage and can tackle.
I don't know what to expect from Beavers this year. Conventional wisdom says he'll need another year to fully recover from his ACL tear.
But they do still have Micah McFadden, and while he didn't exactly light it up as a rookie, neither did Bobby Okereke. There's still a chance, however slim, that he can develop into a serviceable LB.

PFF is not a perfect metric in all cases but often it is a useful baseline depending on the type of measurable.
Rocy Ya is young still and if Wink got guys like Moreau and McLoud playing above their pay grade, I think Sins skillset is something he can maximize too.

I could see Wyatt at 25 since we need someone to take top off D. Waller our red zone match up issue guy. Hodgins is a real nice move the chains, intermediate guy. Wandale would blend perfect in slot, hopefully mid yr.
Might still see a zadarius Thomas or Calais for front 7 ( winks guys). Can’t imagine either expensive. Maybe Marcus peters too
continuing to draft players, without giving them the chance to develop is the same as flushing your draft picks down the drain!
Okereke will replace Golladay and we will be fine.
I see S and WR in the next day or 2. If Love doesn’t come off his number the Giants may make a splash at S. Payer looking to re-sign with Buffalo, that should help with decisions. I thing WR will be via trade because there is no one worth signing. Hoping one shakes loose today.
I hope the rest of the picks will be used for maybe another ILB starter, situational players on both sides of the ball and depth across all positions that can help the poor STs from 2022.
Carl Banks also talked a lot about bad rosters having bad STs because few teams will use their starters on STs. He said if the starters really should be backups, the backups probably wouldn't be on the roster of a good team.
I think the Giants STs need a big upgrade except the kicker.
CB: Anthony Averett, Sean Murphy-Bunting, Tre Herndon, Greedy Williams, and Rock Ya-sin

Any tidbits on WRs??
There's only two years left on his deal and similar to Waller, the Giants could probably get out after one year if they acquired him and it didn't work out
