I am not joking. I already have received a DM from Daniel Bellinger's father, who is upset that I wrote Darren Waller is much better than his son. Link - ( New Window )
Online outlets like The Athletic generally encourage their writers to be active on social media, develop a following, and generate clicks. If you're a writer for them, to really do that, you have to be provocative. You have to have hot takes. And if you have exclusive tidbits of information, you have to exploit them. You have to get people to post about your tweets on fan boards like this one.
But if you're doing that, yeah, you often end up being a dick. And possibly burning sources.
No, you have to be provocative if you have no actual talent, insights, or connections. If you have any of those 3 you don't have to be an asshole. Lacking them, you do.....
I think writers should assume parents love their children
And some will go out of their way to be protective. If you are the writer just deal with it . Even Harry Truman, president of the United States couldn’t take criticism of his daughter. I always found his letter in the link below, funny but so real. Parents love their children and some would go to any length to protect them, even if it subjects them to ridicule.
The writer is a professional with no emotions involved
here. Even if the dad has a point, is he going to behind the scenes try to convince every reporter who expresses this opinion? And to not let it go (guy said it went on for hours) is dumb.
The reporter engaging beyond “I understand your position” is silly and making it public is a dick move.
But it's his job to write about football. But unless he wrote some provocative or nasty things about Bellinger in his article, it's whack for Bellinger Sr. to act like it's a personal attack and go out of his way to contact & question the writer.
How many people here would appreciate a 3rd party showing up and giving you their unsolicited opinion on how you're doing your job. Would you go up to a grocery store clerk and criticize how they were stocking a shelf? "You put the organic bananas in with the Dole bananas, stop embarrassing yourself."
Try that and I guarantee you're going to be talked about in the break room or on social media. Do you guys only share stories or happenings from your life after you've gotten express permission from the other party?
Totally missing the point. Way to go with your TL;DR post though.

So was my post too long to read or did it miss the point? Those are mutually exclusive.
It's not hard to be snarky on the internet, except apparently when you try it.
RE: Funny how most fans are siding with Bellinger's dad
And every single one of you would have been out for blood if it was Eli Apple and his mother.
Probably the same reason why Alex Bachman is a fan favorite every training camp.
That’s an idiotic opinion. Apples Mom put it all out there herself publicly. In this case the writer is posting screenshots of private messages from Bellinger’s Dad. Pretty simple difference
Obviously we don't know what Bellinger's dad said. If he was out of line, then that's a different story. But, I didn't get that impression. He replied privately to a criticism of his kid. So what? The writer was immature and dick for making it public.
Plus, I think Bellinger is actually still the TE1 on this team because he can block a lot better than anyone expected. Waller is a nice addition, but he won't be on the field for all snaps.

The only portion of the DMs that the reporter posted showed only two messages from the dad 2.5 hours apart from each other (with almost immediate responses to both by the reporter). So I'm thinking "DMimg me for almost 4 hours" doesn't really mean what he wants us to think it means.

Only a racist thinks this way.
Sad.
Um. Maybe 70 years ago? These days. Sadly they think they are more important that neuro surgeons.
The "reporter" on the other hand appears to be a clickbait cockroach hack. Trying to pay bills by starting shit. True bottom of the barrel scumbag.
