Yes

I think so, and hope so. He's a 4th WR, and the Giants will have guys that would push him down at least that far on the depth chart.

So it makes sense that your lower cost receivers (Collin Johnson) or mid-late round draft pick(s) take up that slot.

I wish him well wherever he goes

he performed above expectations last year.
Isn't that Darius Slay's handle

NM - I can't read.
LPG just had a tweet up
Biteymax22 : 3/15/2023 11:56 am : link
That the Giants are waiting to see if he accepts their offer before moving on to plan B (he mentioned Hardman and Chark).

While I don't think he knows who plan B really is, I do think he is plugged in with and talks to the players, so it sounds like we made him an offer and he's leaning towards not taking it.
I'm one of the few who like Slayton...

and think we underrate him. But he probably needs a change of scenery. Like Engram.

If true solid move. Set a value and hold firm.

I don't understand this take.

Slayton couldn't have found a better place to play than the Giants, who have a horrible WR corps while he's been here. He's played under three different head coaches so it's not like someone has it out for him. And yet he's dropped over 20 passes since drafted and disappears for long stretches.
Sounds like it

Here’s how to understand it. By propping up average players to be be better, you can blame the quarterback when they fail. This isn’t 4D chess.

Not much dispute with any of your take. I simply said I think Slayton needs a change of scenery.

I may have a different view that Slayton has played better than most think, but I also have no issue with him moving on.

the new regime was not high on Slayton

he was only used as a last resort last season -- and they got the most out of him
...
christian : 3/15/2023 12:25 pm : link
Slayton increased his catch rate by a whopping 25 percentage points YoY and was one of a very few WRs in the NFL to average 15 YPC, 10 YPT, with a 65% catch rate.

I've said this a number of times, he's a limited player, but there is a role for him in the NFL as a specialist.

I hope he's a Giant next year.
Good riddance

Let him drop key passes on someone else's dime...
kind of agree with christian
ColHowPepper : 3/15/2023 12:28 pm : link
as long as, in addition to Waller, he's not the only deep threat, i.e., get another in the draft
He's an enigma.
Beer Man : 3/15/2023 12:29 pm : link
He shows up with a few big contributions here and there and then is near invisible for a number of games. You never know which player you're going to get.
Will Jalen Hyatt in round 1 be a better additon
Rjanyg : 3/15/2023 12:33 pm : link
then re-signing Slayton?

Hyatt is fast and has better hands.
NYG got waaay more production out of Slayton
Dave : 3/15/2023 12:33 pm : link
than they got from most of their 5th rd draft picks

I'd like to see him back for 2M or so as the 4th or 5th wr, but I know I am in the minority
I like Slayton
PaulN : 3/15/2023 12:33 pm : link
So I am also one of the few. Most don't know their own mind and just go along with the majority. So you have company. He hasn't been a 4th reciever here has he? So many are fast to shove him out the door. I agree he is probably gone, but when people are going to throw out names who haven't caught a fucking pass as his replacement, get a clue. Slayton, must be accounted for. That alone means he is a threat and is not a 4th reciever. The Giants need to replace him with a player, not a name.
He also
PaulN : 3/15/2023 12:41 pm : link
Took a payout, and when he got the opportunity, he performed pretty well, in fact, he was the Giants number 1 reciever most of the season, Hodgins shared the honors by the last few games. But other then those last 6 games or so, he was the best recievers on a playoff team while that team cut his salary. Something about his character needs to be said. Hopefully the geniuses understand how much it says about his character, but let's pine for Odell Beckham, I said enough for myself on this subject. You can build a team with Slayton's.

Agree, but I also think they did figure out what he is best at, and could use him again. But has to be at the right price. Took a cut last year but probably earned money back in incentives. He should want more.
I'd
AcidTest : 3/15/2023 12:59 pm : link
resign Slayton for a contract worth a little more than the vet minimum and loaded with incentives.
Slayton has done well for a fifth-rounder
DieHard : 3/15/2023 1:00 pm : link
And he has some nice stats, but what sticks in my mind is at least three games over the past two seasons where he either lost a game or put the Giants in a position to lose with a critical drop. Smart and tough, probably. Dependable, not so much.

He's a stand-up guy and I'd like him back if the price is right, but if we're going to close the gap on the Cowboys and Eagles, we have to do better, which means not getting in a bidding war over him.
Slayton is fairly similar to Engram
Cenotaph : 3/15/2023 1:32 pm : link
not as good in comparison to others at the position - but ultimately a limited player who is inconsistent and has a propensity to drop balls, especially at seemingly the worst time.

He did well here for a 5th rd, but it's time to move on. He's behind Wandale, Hodgins, whoever we draft and even probably Shep at this point - putting him around 5/6 WR where you want a guy who can contribute on ST. If we sign a guy we should look for a KR/PR type to fill out the roster - but look to the draft for a higher end contributor.
His rapport with DJ was the only thing keeping him in the NFL.
penkap75 : 3/15/2023 1:33 pm : link
He has speed and separation, but a WR with bad hands is a fatal flaw. He should have focused on being a DB when he was in HS.

He s not that proficient at the point of attack. He seems at times to lack spatial awareness and an ability to attack the ball
I like Slayton too
JerseyCityJoe : 3/15/2023 4:10 pm : link
Not an elite talent but he can play in this league. At a decent price I'd like to see him back.

I think those are fair points. At the same time, however, he has shown an ability to get separation, can create YAC, and he's a sub 4.4 guy (which shows on the field).

IMV, that's a good toolbox. Now, if he can get better with his catching ability and run tighter routes, there is still room to grow. Granted, big "ifs"...

Just playing devil's advocate here. Quentin Johnston dropped 8 passes on 60 catches this year (Slayton dropped 5 with 46, in 11 starts). And how many catches did Johnston have in the championship game? (that would be 1 for 3 yards) I'd call that disappearing.

Guy was a 5th round draft pick who's played

Above that. Never been over paid. Half the people shitting on him probably loved the Golloday signing. He's had a solid career. Wish some of the higher locks had as much success. No me thinks he's an all pro and the the crap he gets kid be reserved or guys like KG.

Wouldn't mind him back for a reasonable deal. Even if he's re-signed he's not stopping the giants from getting a WR in the draft
