Running Backs-Tracking the lastest FA signings

Y28 : 3/15/2023 8:59 pm
I have been tracking the available NFL running backs. Thru tonight (March 15), below is what we know so far for number of years and average value per year:

Player Years Avg Per Year
Miles Sanders 4 ?
David Montgomery 3 $6 million
Jamaal Williams 3 $4 million
Samaje Perine 2 $3.75 million
Jeff Wilson 2 $3 million
Raheem Mostert 2 $2.75 million
Justice Hill 2 $2.25 million
Travis Homer 2 $2.25 million
Boston Scott 1 $2 million
Mike Boone 2 $1.55 million
Matt Brieda 1 $1.40 million
Rashad Penny 1 $1.375 million
Miles Gaskin 1 ?
Trayveon Williams ? ?

Franchise Tagged

Saquon Barkley 1 $10.1 million
Josh Jones 1 $10.1 million
Tony Pollard 1 $10.1 million

Unsigned starting RB's

Ezekiel Elliot
D'Onta Foreman
Devin Singletary
Kareem Hunt
Damien Harris

Worth noting that to date, only Sanders has received a 4 year contract (which is what Barkley wants).

According to Ryan Dunleavy (appearing on Valentine's podcast), he said that last week the Giants raised their bye week offer and increased it to offer Barkley a 3 year contract totaling $39 million. That was turned down and Dunleavy added that since then, negotiations have stopped.

Clearly Barkley's camp now sees in the past 48 hours the real market value for backs. My guess is they are waiting and hoping that Josh Jones or Tony Pollard will negotiate long term deals with their teams and they can use those to further their negotiations.

And its become very clear that the April draft class for running backs is extremely strong.

It will be interesting to see what happens next.

Let him play on the tag

The market is clear. Overpaying him because the owner likes him would be very stupid IMO. Team is tight on the cap with big extensions for dex, AT and McKinney upcoming. And plenty of holes still. I know it’s unpopular to some but a big money extension for Barkley would be unwise

“ Another top running back domino to fall: Alexander Mattison agreed to a two-year contract to remain with the #Vikings, per source. The deal is worth $7 million that can get to $8M with $6.35M in guarantees.”

The Miles Sanders deal with the #Panthers is for $25 million over four years, per sources.

so 6 mil a year for 1,350 yards and 11 TDs of production. Not a bad deal at all for Carolina.
Barkley better wake up

this isn’t 1995. The Giants offer is extremely generous compared to the market rate at RB right now.
I'd
AcidTest : 3/15/2023 9:21 pm : link
keep Barkley on the FT. I would also look to trade him, although I know the Giants will not, if only because he is one of their few offensive weapons.
Don't these guys have to be comparables

none of the people mentioned are. Look at Mcaffrey and Kamara. Zeke received 50 mil for 4 years and is not as good.
If the giants
NYG123 : 3/15/2023 9:30 pm : link
Pay Saquon 13 mil per year. I officially lose faith in this new regime. There is no reason to do so.
Barkley may want to run and accept that offer on the table
Rudy5757 : 3/15/2023 9:36 pm : link
And Schoen should tear up that offer and cut it in half.
Don’t budge Schoen
Rick in Dallas : 3/15/2023 9:39 pm : link
Let him play on the tag and draft his replacement in April
The Giants are negotiating in good faith.

We'd obviously have to see details, but that would definitely be a ding against Schoen if the contract was close to that amount.

I can give him more than sanders but seriously wouldn’t do 3 yrs 39 right now. Unless yr 3 an out that doesn’t do a ton of harm
If it’s 3 yrs, I am lower that offer by 10% just because I like him
Barkley-s agent screwed him....

The RB is dead. Sander deal is a killer.

Yep, he'd be fortunate to get 4 and 40 now, but perhaps guarantee most of it.

Isn't even getting a nibble out there?
The McCaffrey contract
Joe Beckwith : 3/15/2023 10:34 pm : link
Became the comparison standard to him like the Watson contract became the standard for QBs.
Unfortunately for SB, RB is a whole lot more replaceable than the QB: see the RB shuffle in FAs since noon today.

He might be worth 1-2M more than the tag, even 3 more if he could route run catch like CMcC.
