I don’t know if we have a future Randall K Myers in the system but this certainly puts us in a tough position. At least it happened now and some planning can happen but this is now a huge hole.
Why these idiotic celebrations. I close my eyes every time the polar Bear does it.
These guys are young but not that young where they should be this stupid.
Jumping up and down on an uneven surface like the mound with other guys leaning their weight on you after your muscles are tense from just having undergone tremendous stress? Why such a dumb form of celebration?
I've seen some people say his ankle was pointing in the wrong direction indicating a compound fracture, I've seen others say they were looking at his knee.

I have no idea why you're making this a "gen z" thing when it's been happening in sports for many decades.

Celebrations have been happening but not these moronic types where you jump in a scrum together.
Dorsal flexion of the foot and ankle during a team jump around celebration. The way he looks being carried off - the foot essentially hanging and feeling separated from the leg … that’s achilles.
undergoing xrays - bbi docs, does this mean it may be something other
than an acl or achilles? i know they have that achilles test that's usually pretty conclusive right away. a broken bone, sprained ankle, or dislocated knee would be better than the worst outcome.

Maybe they should all just be doing hookers and blow like the good ol' days instead

There actually might be something to that. In the past, the celebration came afterwards. But now these guys are so subject to scrutiny with everybody having a phone hoping to catch an athlete drinking or kissing a model that you really can't do other stuff.
In 1986,after they clinched, Mets players came out of the lockerroom and were drinking bottles of champagne on the mound, all sitting together. Imagine that today?
This. It’s not a Mets thing, it’s this fucking stupid WBC that has been forced down people’s throats. It will never be the goddamn World Cup. Stop with the bullshit already.
Popping over and back and just hurting like hell with no structural damage...
Worst case is Victor Cruz injury probably right??
What a disaster.
After rewatching the video a couple of times, I don't think his foot was pointing in the wrong direction. He seems to be holding it like that on purpose, probably to relieve the pain.
Right before, he actually does put the foot down and try to walk on it.
But with these type of injuries, the inflammatory response is so extreme that it can look worse than it is. At least that's what Im hoping
his surgery was on march 19 and his rehab was on track to get him back mid-sept on a starters workload (75+ pitches). this was back in 2015.
Quote:
Marcus Stroman is starting tonight. For the Lansing Lugnuts, the Toronto Blue Jays’ A-ball affiliate, but still: He’ll be throwing baseballs to professional batters. Five months ago, that was something that no one but Stroman foresaw. And five years ago, the chronological realities of rehabbing from in-season surgery might have proven his prediction wrong. But Stroman’s is a special case, a partnership of personality and science that points the way toward the future of injury rehab.
Stroman’s comeback story starts with what appeared to be a knockout blow, struck on a spring training field in mid-March. During pitchers’ fielding practice, Stroman and third baseman Josh Donaldson converged on a bunt. Donaldson called off Stroman, who planted his foot on the wrong patch of grass in his eagerness to avoid his larger, charging teammate. The pitcher heard a pop, noticed that his left knee “felt hollow, kind of like it was empty,” and fell to the ground. Soon after, he visited the team doctor, who told him, “You tore your ACL.”
When he takes the mound tonight (with two of his therapists in attendance), Stroman will be limited to 65 to 70 pitches. If all goes well, he’ll move up to Triple-A Buffalo and throw 85 to 90 next Monday in Pawtucket, after which we could see him back in the big leagues as soon as September 12. He’d prefer to stay in the rotation, but Toronto’s staff is more stacked than it was when he went down. At the trade deadline, teams with aces to sell tried to pry Stroman away from Alex Anthopoulos, but Toronto’s GM kept Stroman and still landed a rental ace, David Price. Now he might be close to putting the two together, which would be a potent combination in October regardless of Stroman’s role.
I guess I shouldn't be calling anyone else a dumbass because when i was 22 I injured it dancing wasted and wearing cowboy boots, which led me to slip on some spilled beer when one of my buddies jumped on my back
Anyway, I was sure I tore it completely. It hurt like hell. Could not put any weight on it at all. It took about 6 weeks with rehab to get better. But it then lingered and was never 100% again
-Heyman
Other guys have gotten very injured celebrating. Anyone who does it now is a moron.
Also, the WBC appears too be--for whatever reasons--a very unsafe environment to play baseball. Lots of injuries.
Big difference
Big difference
The final pitch, the team was celebrating
Big difference
Did it celebrating
Why?
This sucks though
Don't be surprised to see future contracts with a void clause if guys get injured playing baseball for WBC or anywhere else outside of MLB.

It's already affecting participation. And if I just gave a pitcher $100m+ there's no way I'd ever let him use that arm for anyone else in a game.

I hate this bullshit tournament.

It’s fucking pointless.

I was thinking high ankle sprain. Because the leg is so straight like he is trying to hold the foot in placce

Yeah. That would make sense. Because the muscles are tight after throwing 100 mph pitches.

Many guys have been injured in celebrations in recent years. Kendry Morales broke his leg in a celebration much like this one.

Guys just are not in baseball shape that early in the spring. In spring training, you can pace yourself but in WBC you to go 100%

Edwin Díaz injured his right knee after tonight’s WBC game. He will undergo imaging tomorrow and we will update when appropriate.
hopefully sprain or dislocation.
hopefully not a torn ligament.
Weird that no one has even reported whether it's knee or ankle or shin or whatever...
Maybe he just broke his leg and we'll see him in July?
