The women behind many of UFO's beloved characters discuss their time on the show - from the purple wigs and string vests to on set anecdotes of pranks and laughter.

Featuring Gabrielle Drake, Sylvia Anderson, Wanda Ventham and many more of the female cast.

Next to Star Trek, this was my favorite sci-fi show as a kid. Sure, Skydiver and the Interceptors were a big part of that, but I'd be lying if I said the ladies weren't, too.

.
Underrated show. Some very smart scripts.

It would be on my list of shows to be considered for a reboot.

Better than Space 1999, which really wasn't that good an idea. (BTW, for some reason, the station that carried Space 1999 in Rochester cut off the ending of the pilot when they aired it. Not sure what happened, but it drove me nuts. I finally saw the end of that episode about a month ago on YouTube. Only about 50 years after seeing the rest of it.)
Space 1999 was a UFO salvage project

UFO was only aired for one season, but even that didn’t go well. Production was shut down for nearly a year midway through filming due to a studio issue. By the time they returned they had lost several cast members. And a good chunk of their audience, resulting in cancellation.

Then BBC brought the show to the US, where ratings were very strong. They decided to make a new season of UFO, set a few years in the future and focused on the moon base and space. But midway through preproduction the execs changed their mind and cancelled. Having already spent a lot on sets and such, the producers decided to make use of what they had and created Space:1999.
@Jim, didn't know all that.

It explains a lot.
I couldn't stand Space: 1999.

Funny, because I really liked Martin Landau and Barbara Bain in Mission: Impossible, but thought they were terrible in Space: 1999. Go figure. The alien chick annoyed me, too...might have been the eyebrows...and I thought most of the stories were just plain silly, not unlike another pretty weak sci-fi series, The Starlost.
