I remember hearing the White Stripes song for the first time ... very well. I was learning to drive with Sir Edward H (dad) and that came on and we both went to crank the volume up. A great moment in time. Prob late 2003 or early 2004.

your dad is a knight?
I think he is
that's all that matters
Good song, but no way the best of the last 100 years
--virtually no one will agree but I can't help but think Fear Inoculum or Right in Two by Tool carry more weight and meaning. But only tool fans know those songs...
in terms of the talent/commercial success combo, it's hard to find someone else on her level the last 10+ years. "Rolling in the Deep" is her biggest track even if it's not my favorite.
There's no right answer to this, but I understand the "Seven Nation Army" mention.
is "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers (2004). More of an iconic song in the UK for some reason - 350 weeks of the UK Top 100 Singles, but I'll go with it.

Definitely a top 10 album (Hot fuss) this century and probably even top 3.
played at my company sales kick-off meeting in Vegas. I think they're from Vegas (someone said that and I have not verified it) so if true not like they traveled far to get there, but I have almost never been so embarrassed for a band. they may as well have been a lounge act. no one gave a shit.
Probably not their target audience demographic exactly, but we have had in the past Imagine Dragons, J-Lo, Van Halen, and other bands of stature and the place went nuts.
The only time I was more embarrassed for a band was when Huey Lewis and the News played my towns chili cook-off/kite held at a local AM radio station.
Go ahead and kill me for this, but if its since 200 I am going with
the Killers are in fact from Las Vegas. I've seen them a few times and they are great live (not that you said they weren't)
Most embarrassed I've ever been for a band was the band Live (this isn't a who's on first routine, I'm talking about the band called *Live*), their album Throwing Copper is one of my favorite ever (it sold 8 million copies) anyway... years after they were big they played at my mom's apartment complex (Stuy Town).

I remember live. The bald singer. They had some hits in the 90's. Not bad, but way overplayed in the epitome of corporate rock of the era.
I guess you have to tip your hat to bands like that in those situations. Might be not the money anymore but the love of playing music.
performing under his real name, Rob Van Winkle - stopped by my campus as part of his "tour." He didn't even play the small arena on campus - they cleared some tables in one of the cafeterias and he played there. I don't know if it's humanly possible to be more embarrassed for someone. A room full of college kids chanting "Ninja Rap" was the highlight. I went just to witness the train wreck.

The Killers are great live. You were probably busy watching a Montreal Canadiens game on your iPad.
This one. The best song of the last 23+ years.

I think it's for the century that began on January 1st 2001
This century, so since 2000
You're joking, right? Every time I hear a song of hers, I feel like punching someone in the face. Preferably, hers.
2. has to have been used in other areas of entertainment
3. album song was on must have gone platinum
4. artist should still be performing today
for me its Kanye West - all of the lights or flashing lights
I don't like any songs since 2000.
This century has been a terrible terrible century of music and films.

Ok then. Black Eyed Peas, I Got A Feeling? Anyone but Swift...

As an aside, if you haven't already check out Jason Isbell on Twitter. He's unexpectedly hilarious and goofy.

That's my mistake, not the writer. He said "century" not since 2000, I messed that up. Century began 1/1/2001 per google.

Kelly Clarkson isn't bad. The better of the modern woman singers who just tend to wail on (and rap) in their songs.

You mean that song god dam everyone uses at their god dam wedding to motivate people to come out to the dance floor after dinner.
Pretty good one actually.
