We still only have Dex and Leo as legit starters. Nunez-Roches is a low volume backup NT. Davidson is coming off an ACL. Then its Butler and Anderson. We've done almost nothing.
I think a true rotational DL to share reps with Dex and Leo is critical. There isn't a peep about this anywhere and a bunch of the FA DLs have signed. Anyone have a clue about what they might do here.
They will draft somebody probably.
Well there really isn't that much left FA if your talking about guys good enough to be rotational DLs And you think the draft will get you a rookie DL good enough for that role. If only...
So we're going into next year like we left last year with Dex and Leo and a prayer. There were guys in FA who could have filled that role. They weren't exorbitantly expensive.
I think that optimistic for him He's a backup NT with no rush skills. Hey, if that works for you.
Davidson is coming off an ACL and Tomlinson signed for 4/57.

30% guy. How many snaps do you WANT him to take from Leo and Dex?

Nacho's here to give Dex a break without the run D suffering too much. He played about 40% of the snaps last year, but 30% is about right for us, which would reduce Dex's 82% to around 70%.
As for DE's, which to me is a big need, there are still several UFA'a available that I like, but if the Giants can't afford one, there's always the draft.
If you say so Jon. Just don't see Davidson (ACL), Anderson and Butler being a viable back end unless Davidson is near 100% and that's a big question. And one more is all I'm asking for. But it seems like it needs to be a guy a level better than Nunez-Roches who can spell Leo and play effectively in the 3 DL alignments. ?
On the other hand what kind of DE are we looking for at that spot, JJ Watt or Curtis McGriff?

Yes they were. Did you see what Dalvin Tomlinson got paid?
He was near top of the market. Shy Tuttle got 3/19.5. Demarcus Walker got 3/21 . Those are the level of guys that could have worked.
Seriously, we're 3 days into free agency, then there are cuts being made for months, we have 10 draft picks... it's a process people.

will be a high priority in the draft. I would not be surprised if they are also monitoring Calais Campbell and where he is at.

Like I mentioned above to Milton. Just competent guys who can fill the rotation. Getting a rookie to fill that spot is a long shot unless you're getting one in round 1 or round 2.
He only fills the backup NT spot. Who spells Leo. Ryan Anderson?

Are underestimating the role nacho is gonna have. Theres not going to be an affordable DT just sitting around who is good at pass rushing and stopping the run.

I presume a draft pick who can play 3-tech and play outside. I've been stacking guys in the mock draft simulators, an edge who can play inside and a DT who can play 3-4 DE or even OLB.
You're preaching to the choir. But getting a decent rotational DL, even a stopgap, is pretty important as well. Not looking for a pro bowler. But, they can't go into the draft having to find that player either.
That would be amazing
Karl Brooks. He's a big (6'3", 300 lbs) edge/defensive tackle who can rush the passer from inside and outside. Name came up as a snub for the Combine. Evaluations on him are all over the place; PFF has him in at 56 (2nd or 3rd round), PFN has him in the late rounds, SI has him as a 4th-rounder, TDN has him as a 5th-rounder, etc.
Bowling Green Defense vs. Toledo Offense (Brooks is No. 11) - ( New Window )
Wink gave up over 50 yards than any defense he had. His teams were typically in the low 80's to mid 90's yardage wise.
It was not just a ILB problem.
