On the latest GM Shuffle, Lombardi went off on the Giants trading for Waller. Basically stated that you can’t deny the kid’s talent, but he’s soon to be 31 years old and has only played in 17 games in 2 seasons. Lombardi states that the Raiders replaced Waller (a big slot receiver) with Jakoby Meyers (a slot receiver) for more health and production, for the same money ($11m). Lombardi also stated that Waller never bought in to McDaniel’s and was fined when he refused to rehab an injury.
Ef him.
+1
I also suspected that the trade might have something to do with Waller and McDaniel not being on the same page. Waller is too talented to let go for a low 3 unless there are other issues.
As an aside, Lombardi said the Giants thought they had Edwards before he signed with the Bears.
Yes he mentioned the 3rd round pick. He said Jalen Ramsey went for a 3rd round pick as well, so those picks are valuable.
If we got Hopkins for a late 3rd he would have found fault with it.
Ass Clown
Every day that goes by, he makes it more and more clear why he failed as a GM.
Simple arguments like this, ignoring the contexts of different situations, is what you'd expect of an uninformed football fan and not an actual GM.
He's got a 1 year deal around 10 mil and they can release him with zero downside..
Not even mentioning the fact that he's top 3 at his position IN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE. His 2 years where he dealth with (minor nagging) inuuries, including one where McDaniels completely used him wrong, he would have been a HUGE upgrade on this team.
Yea, bad move Giants 🤦

Definitely would be concerning, but my guess is his source is McDaniels, who is a proven liar.
Second this. If someone has a valid criticism that’s one thing but this is such a low risk high reward situation criticizing it is obviously rooted in something else
What is the risk? Losing the 100th pick in the draft? No guaranteed money after 2023 as of now.
Earlier in the week, he said the Giants always overvalue their own and pay too much for mediocrity.
Then the organization brings in talent from the outside and then he criticizes them anyway.
Now don't get me wrong, over the last 5 to 10 years, the organization deserves to be criticized, but he is contradicting himself.
I might be in the minority, but I do not love the Waller trade. For a rebuilding team, I would have liked the draft pick as opposed to the player, but I can certainly see the appeal of a talent like Waller. Can he stay healthy? Is he going to age? There are concerns, but the team took a risk for a small cost for both compensation and money. How can anyone criticize the deal before he has played a single snap?
That certainly explains it.
So the Giants made a mistake trading for Waller because he didn't fit into McDaniels' offense? How does that make any sense? Did he take any time researching the Giants to see who their OC is and where he came from?
Lombardi is a fucking joke. I didn't see what he said about the Panthers trading up to the #1 pick but I bet that he was the only one to praise the Panthers for giving up a massive haul for the #1 pick.
A - giving Josh mcdaniels the benefit of the doubt and building a case against waller on this belief. Do we really think waller “quit” on the raiders? That’s a big indictment to make.
B - actually stating and believing that Waller plays the same position (slot wr) as Meyers. And implying that Meyers is the same matchup problem as Waller is.
That is some seriously presumptuous bullshit right there.

But the Meyers reference is absurd. Waller and Meyers are not even close as players when both are healthy. Waller is clearly the better player.

And therein lies the problem. You have a talented player that produced at a pro bowl level under gruden and instead of tailoring an offense that works with the talent of a player, they (the coaches) force their system and blame the player. McDaniel will be running back to Bill belichick with his tail between his legs real soon.
Waller came back and played the last 4 games of the season. Gruden didn't have any issues with Waller. As a matter of fact gruden nicknamed him the joker, because gruden could line him up anywhere on the offensive formation and Waller would make plays.
Lombardi is a blowhard.
I think it was a sound deal. On average only about 3 third round draft picks make the pro bowl every season. (The number is about 13.5 for the first round.) I think the odds of Waller coming out of his injury funk are better than the chances of the Giants finding a player as good using that third round pick. Hamstring injuries don’t usually follow you around for the rest of your career.

Nailed it. If he’s healthy, it was a success. If he’s hurt, there’s no great loss. In poker this is an easy call, not some hero BS.
He sounds like a clown, yet this is the 2nd time in a week a thread about something he said has drawn a ton of views and comments
