I still can’t believe how much hype there was around OBJ signing with a team last year. Across the league GMs and owners were talking about him. Schoen, Daboll, Mara all played along. He even had dinner with the team. The internet was full of rumors of where he would land for the playoffs. And then nothing happened. Maybe he had a setback or miscalculated when he would be ready, but it was all a massive waste of everyone’s time.
There’s no way I’m falling for this nonsense again.
He aleeady said on twitter he was never asking for 20, but I definitely think he's asking in the 15 range. He will have to settle for what the market is willing to offer

He’s older coming off second ACL. Meyers got 11 million per. Prime of his career. If Odell gets 15 he should thank his lucky
Stars. I think teams are probably thinking in the 10 range for him
Saquon to Odell " if your coming to New York take a bus".
if he can get a bidding war going. Or maybe he really does want to come home.
I'm probably one of the few who wanted OBJ back, but with the signing of Campbell and Slayton, that ship has probably sailed.
If they had signed OBJ it would have eliminated the need for a WR at 24 and opened the 1st and 2nd RD up to CB, OL or even ILB and DL. (Now it seems like we're locked into a combination of WR/CB at 1 and 2.)
You have to have missed a lot of games the last 2 years for the right to play next to Slayton & Hodgins. Maybe between all of them we can get 17 games.
I mean, we are returning everyone except James and Golladay was replaced with Campbell.
He is seeing a lot of players being signed and money is starting to dry up. We'll see what he gets, would not be shocked to see another 1 year deal (or a fake 2 year deal) for around 10-12M.

He wasn'tt ready to play. Period. He decided to shut it down and rehab more when teams saw him. It happens...maybe not the media circus, but it does.
I like OBJ the player, and from what his teammates have said about him, I appreciate that he's a well liked and respected person who has a lot of loyalty from those who know him.
In an alternate reality, there was no serious OBJ drama, no trade, the Giants lucked into some competent oline play, Barkley didn't get hurt and OBJ, Eli and Barkley lit it up for another year maybe two. And that version of me bought a 13 jersey.
But that didn't happen. And here we are.
The plane video shows he is still a distraction and with his injuries and age, this is not the right direction for the Giants.
Even though part of my heart would like OBJ back, it only has to do with that "what if" I just described. My brain overwhelmingly says that this is not the right move to make.
I honestly wish OBJ success and good fortune. I kind of root for OBJ the guy. I really think he's a good dude, who can be an ahole at times, and I just like that success to be with another team.
The tagged Barkley, so two guys that OBJ is really close to. He's expressed a desire to return to NY.
My take is this is his #1 preferred spot. Yeah, he wants to get paid, and that's going to be a strong factor in wherever he lands. But I also think if Schoen offers him, if the money is even close, but not the top offer, he'll be a Giant again.
That said, not sure Schoen will offer with some commitment to Campbell and Slayton already made.
A draft choice in the first two rounds makes a ton of sense, but a $12-$15M AAV commitment to OBJ? Not sure Schoen will see that as feasible at this point.
But the timing on this is really noteworthy. OBJ is seeing back to back signings of Campbell and Slayton, and he probably feels the window to a Giants' return is closing (if it's not closed). And this strikes me as a panic move that makes me believe he desperately wants this reunion.
And I'll be honest, I want it too. I remember the dog pee thing... doesn't really bother me as I know it was a political protest for comments made by you know who.
The kicking net...pfft. The video with Josina Anderson and Lil' Wayne? Ill-advised, but water under the bridge.
But 44 TDs as a Giant? 5,476 receiving yards in 59 games as a Giant...yeah, I want that OBJ back.
It's fair to say you don't think we'll ever see that OBJ in the NFL again. I still believe he has that in him.

Lol, you failed to mentioned the two torn ACL's in the same knee. Nobody cares about antics in 2017, but moving fwd he's a terrible fit.
Also, his latest plane incident tells me that he hasn't changed at all.
I don't think the Giants are truly interested, he's the exact opposite of what they want. 10-15 AAV for OBJ is insane when you can trade for Hopkins and he will have a 17.5 AAV. Pass.
its funny that you don't "think" we will see that OBJ.
That OBJ is long gone. Please list all of the players that have come back successfully from 2 torn ACL's in the same knee. Then list guys that produced where they used to and how many were WR's.
I love how everyone is just glossing over that. Guys do not come back from 2 torn ACL's in the same knee and have the same lateral movement. It's not happening.
in terms of AAV isn't really important. The important part would be the GTD portion, with protections to the team in case of re-injury. Obviously, there's not going to be a full guarantee here, not from anyone.
In terms of the plane video, obviously it was a stressful situation where OBJ was probably intoxicated or hungover, perhaps he had taken a valium for the flight, who knows. At any rate, while it wasn't his finest moment, he wasn't arrested, he was woken up from a deep sleep, he wasn't violent, he complied. Mountain out of a molehill. I don't think anything of the flight video, personally. He obviously wasn't in a good state to fly, that's on him.
I trust that teams will do due diligence on is ability to perform. It will have been over a year and a half since his latest ACL tear by the time week 1 of the season rolls around. The description word of his work out recently was termed "explosive". I don't know how many wide receivers have even torn an ACL in the same knee. But I do know a couple of running backs have done so and come back. Frank Gore tore an ACL in his knee twice in college and played 16 seasons in what is likely to result in a HOF career.
I don't think anyone here can say with certainty whether or not he can compete at a high level again. But I do know that he did compete at a high level the last time he played for an NFL team, down the stretch of the 2021 regular season and playoffs for the Rams.
I don't even think there's many guys you can compare Odell to. He's an elite athlete even compared to other NFL players.
Yes there's risk, but teams will factor that in to his contract. There's also an upside that few receivers possess, and no receivers currently signed to the NY Giants possess.
I believe him to be a gamble worth taking, if the money is right.
Write him off if you want. Yeah, he can get hurt again, and so can Shep, Wan'Dale, Campbell, etc. You can lose anybody at any time. There has been enough time in between his last surgery and now, that, if he demonstrates the movement ability, there's no reason, barring a re-injury, that he can't get back to providing elite production. In his workout, he looked like he was in elite shape, looked like a monster. And he looked quick out of his breaks.
If he lands elsewhere, I won't be shocked to see him perform at a high level again.
the chances of you being an elite NFL WR again is minimal, but when it happens twice, its almost non existent.
You don't make anything of the plane video? Supposedly before the video was even taken he was an hole and then started to go after other passengers lol. It was a huge sign that he's the same immature kid that couldn't control himself here the first time.
injured again than anyone else on our roster not named Shep. This isn't a "hey, anyone can get hurt" situation. This is a guy that had two major knee reconstructions. He will never be the same. Maybe it heals him enough to be able to cut and play, but he will never be the same guy. Its just the way it is.
There’s no way I’m falling for this nonsense again.

No one is giving him close to $20M per year.

Why not overpay for Odell?
Right 😂😂😂😂
+1

12M??!?!
My big fear here is that we pay more for the name and hype than he is worth. I'm thinking something around but a bit lower than slaytons deal.
