New York Giants 2023 Free Agency Scorecard - ( New Window )
They’ve done a nice job so far with what’s available
eric2425ny : 3/17/2023 8:25 am : link
The only significant deals from a cost perspective are Jones obviously and Okereke.

Have to assume some cuts/contract reconstructures are on the horizon
nyjuggernaut2 : 3/17/2023 8:33 am : link
OTC has the Giants cap number at $3.29m under the cap, but that is without the Okereke, Slayton, or Jihad Ward contract numbers posted yet.
Not really the improvement in FA I was hoping for
Rudy5757 : 3/17/2023 8:44 am : link
Let’s hope some solid vets shake loose. I was hoping for a C and WR. I do like the LB. This is an uninspiring group to me so far and I think we paid a lot for some of these guys.
I hope we do more on defense.
George from PA : 3/17/2023 8:46 am : link
Calais Campbell would be a nice add....should be a part time player these days....but still a stud

Have to look at Waller as your number 1 receiver like Kelce is for KC..

The WRs are supporting cast to him

Added Paris Campbell too. WR FA market wasn't strong this year. Campbell was a pretty good signing at a pretty good price.
No one wants to hear it
Red Right Hand : 3/17/2023 9:20 am : link
Resigning Slayton was a sound move. Not disagreeing with any ctitiques of the guy, but it was a sound move nonetheless.
I still don’t get the resigning of Slayton and Gillan at those numbers
Spider56 : 3/17/2023 9:22 am : link
We need to be improving not maintaining status quo.
We filled two of our most pressing needs.
Klaatu : 3/17/2023 9:26 am : link
We got a much better backup DT, and a legit playmaker at LB. I still think we should sign a veteran DE and CB, but we might have to wait until the draft to see upgrades at those positions. Ditto for Safety.

We added more speed at WR and TE, which will hopefully lead to more big plays on offense. I believe we'll draft at least one WR, and maybe another TE, too, since the class is so deep.

All in all, I'm pretty happy with what's transpired so far. We've still got a ways to go before we're truly competitive, but in my view we're headed in the right direction.
still not a Super Bowl team
Giants86 : 3/17/2023 9:30 am : link
and yes I know it takes time.
We need a true number one WR.
I would like to see us grab another pass rusher too.

.

Right now, they have a bunch of threes at the WR position.
If I was them, would draft one early, and then one later.
I think they have about 10 picks left, after moving 3rd Rd. pick in the Waller deal.
Based on what was out there, and the money they had to spend,
well Schoen did what he could. Not excited about Slayton or the punter back here, but whatever...
What does it say about the roster
Ron Johnson : 3/17/2023 10:06 am : link
when half your team are FAs and just 1 is signed by another team.

That this team won a playoff game is miraculous.
That Jeff Smith signing is huge
PatersonPlank : 3/17/2023 10:14 am : link
.
What does it say about winning a play-offs game?
Marty in Albany : 3/17/2023 10:16 am : link
It says, "Perhaps there are too many teams in the play-offs, you greedy NFL owners."
I think the Giants may be done with this free agency pool until there
Ivan15 : 3/17/2023 10:17 am : link
Are some cap casualties. A punter to compete with Gillan, another vet ILB, even an Edge rusher are possibilities. Giants need to re-sign their own players to get up to at least 75 players, then fit in the draft class and UDFAs.
They still need a Center and haven’t signed Feliciano yet
Simms11 : 3/17/2023 10:32 am : link
either. I think they’ll look to draft one, but will also need a vet there going into the draft.

I agree with that and I think that's OK if he stays healthy.

We really needed a good TE, Bellinger is adequate...but this is a major upgrade in theory.

They could still re-sign Feliciano, or they might be content to roll with Bredeson (with Lemieux and Ezeudu as fallbacks). I do hope they sign a good OC prospect, though. I've wanted one for years.
Slayton
Thegratefulhead : 3/17/2023 10:55 am : link
is a good signing. He does get over the top, he has elite burst and has rapport with Jones. Solid. Get me a 1.
FWIW
D HOS : 3/17/2023 11:03 am : link
Nate Davis of USA Today calls the Giants "winners" in FA.

New York Giants: They got a multiyear contract done with QB Daniel Jones, tagged RB Saquon Barkley, traded for TE Darren Waller and signed LB Bobby Okereke. Positive steps for a team trying to build off a surprise run to the 2022 divisional playoff round.

Winners, losers and too close to call - ( New Window )

And then when you need him most ... he’s not dependable.

One more thing...
Carson53 : 3/17/2023 11:11 am : link
I would try to draft a center in the first three rounds.
That doesn't preclude them from bringing back Feliciano for another year. A young draft pick could learn for a year if necessary. I think somebody like Bredeson and Lemieux would stay at guard. I am not holding my breath with a Lemieux, can't stay on the field.
Where we at ... official day 3.
Spider56 : 3/17/2023 11:39 am : link
Need ...
Offense - Top WR, Center, Backup QB
Defense - DL depth, CB depth, S if they don’t resign Love

Would also like to see a rookie punter to push Gillan.

I would add another LB
Could be an edge to take some reps from BJ/ thibs or someone who can play all lb positions effectively
Beavers panning out would be real helpful
Davidson being effective 10-15 snaps a game also. Especially if they can move nunez around on line ( I think he can play all the positions)

Watching some of the film reviews of Nacho from Falato, Skinner, and others, I thought it was pretty clear that he's fine as a run-stuffer playing inside, but he's not a guy you want on the edge, as a 5-Tech. He's just not built for it.
Huge offseason...
Brown_Hornet : 3/17/2023 4:54 pm : link
...huge!

Okereke and Campbell are the LB and WR I was hoping for.
Besides DJ, the rest is gravy.

I am stoked ... all the things I said I'd do he actually has done ... I was thinking a lesser move at ILB contract wise more like David Long's but I will take it. Also with Campbell I really like bringing back Slayton. We have true depth and legit WRs 2 thru 4, still need a #1 in the draft. However with the Waller trade alters my plan a bit, I would have clustered WRs early ...1st and 3rd or 2nd and 3rd with CB, ILB/OLB/IOL mixed in those 1st 4 picks. Now those are the hot items left WR, CB and IOL ... that extra 3rd is a TE vs ILB/OLB/IOL in my plan.
