Details on Darius Slayton's Contract

Eric from BBI : Admin : 3/17/2023 12:52 pm
Dan Duggan @DDuggan21

Giants WR Darius Slayton contract details, per source: 2 years, $12M with $4.9M guaranteed, including a $3.5M signing bonus.

Projected cap hits:
2023: $4.2M
2024: $7.7M

There's a $2.4M roster bonus due on the fifth day of the 2024 league year. The Giants could cut him before then for $6M in cap savings with $1.75M in dead money.

Slayton has unspecified incentives worth up to $1.5M in each season for receptions, receiving yards and receiving TDs. There's also a $1.5M escalator for his 2024 salary if he hits those thresholds in 2023. So up to $4.5M in additional compensation based on performance.
It's basically a one year deal

And a contract very tradeable if we draft and or sign other receivers and they outperform Slayton in camp.

Very fair contract for Slayton

All that handwringing yesterday.
Schoen doing a good job building the roster.
Thats a fair contract
Kmed6000 : 3/17/2023 1:02 pm : link
for someone with NFL experience and a quality depth player. Gives the Giants an out after year 1 with minimal dead cap hit.

I approve!
I think Schoen has shown us enough by now

(re: contracts), that we should give him the benefit of the doubt, before having a panic attack. I was also in the WTF mode last night, so I'm speaking to myself as well in this post!

Darius Slayton's salary cap hits: $4.25 million in 2023, $7.75 million in 2024. Giants free up $6 million (with $1.75 million in dead money) if they cut him after 2023. It's really a one-year, $5.25 million deal. Increases to $6 million in 2023 if he plays every game.
Given what else is on the market
widmerseyebrow : 3/17/2023 1:05 pm : link
it seems like a decent move. I'm not a huge fan of Slayton, but he he brings chunk plays in the passing game at a decent clip which something none of the others have shown to date. They definitely wanted to move on early last year, but he earned a little more trust from the coaches by the second half of the season. Ideally he's pushed down the depth chart (Waller, Campbell, rookie) but if necessity comes knocking again we have someone who can start and keep defenses somewhat honest over the top.
This is why people shouldn't have a melt down
bLiTz 2k : 3/17/2023 1:06 pm : link
until they see the terms of these deals. It happens every contract - they see a total figure on Twitter and then explode.

This is a team friendly deal for a middle tier player who knows the system. If he earns the incentives, then he is producing and it's good for the Giants. If not, cut him next year with minimal dead cap. How can you complain?
So a 1 year deal
No1MDGiantsFan : 3/17/2023 1:06 pm : link
at a modest price. This is why we wait for details :)
Hopefully those who were so taken back by the thought
Chris684 : 3/17/2023 1:10 pm : link
of keeping Slayton around feel better after seeing the structure of the contract.
Giants
Sammo85 : 3/17/2023 1:32 pm : link
can easily move on from both Campbell/Slayton for better alternatives next year via draft or FA/trade.
Schoen's run of avoiding bad contracts continues

Love this guy
Good for him
rasbutant : 3/17/2023 1:35 pm : link
I would have put the money elsewhere, but I don't get to make those decisions. I'll root for him to reach those incentives.
Fine/average
DanMetroMan : 3/17/2023 1:35 pm : link
player at a fair price. You want some continuity while you wait on finding difference makers.
So our wrs have gotten better on paper, even if only marginally
djm : 3/17/2023 1:45 pm : link
Without spending any real money or forfeiting any picks or resources.

Better at LB and DL. Lost love. Fa ain’t over.

Oh
djm : 3/17/2023 1:45 pm : link
And the impact player added at TE.

ryanmkeane : 3/17/2023 2:04 pm : link
Much better once you look under the hood
Schoen didn’t let Love go without a Plan A and B
gersh : 3/17/2023 2:16 pm : link
Love is good but far from irreplaceable. And yes, X is the priority
….
gersh : 3/17/2023 2:17 pm : link
Sorry, wrong thread

ryanmkeane : 3/17/2023 2:27 pm : link
I’d imagine Brian Branch is high on their list in round 1
Melt down
PaulN : 3/17/2023 2:35 pm : link
Over a player smart fans like and the organization likes, a team guy. But the same people who don't like him, live Beckham. A ne guy coming off 2 ACL's who killed us in the only playoff game he played in Blue.

Told ya the signing was nothing to be concerned about. JS knows how to structure contracts. This isnt ole Dave "GiveTheFarm" Gettleman.
Jones and Slayton are the only two Giants
cosmicj : 3/17/2023 2:55 pm : link
drafted since 2015 to receive second contracts.

This franchise has just been a dumpster fire.

shepard too but if you go back farther i think if you go to like 2011 you only add in obj. so over the decade from the last sb season 2011-2021 the total was just obj/shepard.
I was careful to word that. Of the players drafted in 2015 and after,
cosmicj : 3/17/2023 2:59 pm : link

A safety? That's as unwise as taking a RB in the first round.

Unless you think Branch is the second coming of Ed Reed...?
At pick 25
Kmed6000 : 3/17/2023 3:01 pm : link
a high end safety could absolutely be in play. This is nothing like taking a RB at 2 or even top 15. At pick 25, you take someone if you think they are an elite player.
God, that is just
Dave on the UWS : 3/17/2023 3:02 pm : link
abysmal management. 12 years and only 4 guys to get 2nd contracts? That's malpractic on a grand scale. Lots of blame to go around. Hopefully, the tide is turning.

Shepard was drafted in 2016 and received a second contract - so it's 3.
