It seems like a foregone conclusion here that X is in line for a big contract soon. Maybe I'm in the minority- I think he's a very good player, but I don't think he's taken that step up into the elite category. Last year was a big disappointment, especially with the injury, but injury aside I didn't think he played great. I feel like next season is a prove it year if he wants to get the big bucks in his 2nd contract.
He was elite prior to ATV, imo..
Contracts like Solder’s and Golladays can crush roster building
That's certainly true, but it doesn't mean that he's a Pro Bowl player. It just means that the guys behind him were a big dropoff.

The pass defense was noticeably worse after he went out last year.

You mean All-Pro..Engram was Pro bowl his last year with us..😂
The swoon also coincided with Jackson's injury as well as Robinson's, and also followed the wipeout of the D-Line depth, the damage to Barkley's shoulder and the near-removal of Bellinger's eye.
Heck, if correlation=causation, we can blame the trade of Kadarius Toney.
2nd round, pick #36

One of the most beautiful things about the 22 season was Toney making that big punt return to help deny the Eagles the ring. Mission accomplished. The Giants can retire his 89 jersey one day.
They are forced to double a lot because of below average corners when we get 2 solid corners he will be free to roam and create plays.

Didn't happen with the Giants because we didn't draft any young good guys we needed to resign.
Combination of both FS and SS. Very versatile. I think having Love back there helped both of them. See what happens now. Giants may regret losing Love.
That said, McKinney has shown some good play, but also has seemed to lack the real 'playmaking' (creating TO's/big D plays) that top safeties get paid for. Love is a fair example of that also - he racked up nice numbers last year, and improved each year he was with us - but was more a solid guy than a real difference maker. I think what McKinney gets going forward is going to depend big on next year's performance.
Love a 4th Rd pick who panned out well; let's hope we can find a replacement similarly (whether on the roster now or in the next draft). I personally would have preferred Love to Slayton at similar $; especially with the other signings the Giants have made (we have a ton of #2-3 type WRs; it's certainly possible Slay is on the edge for playing time if Wandale/Campbell steps up, Hodgins repeats, a new draft pick comes in and maybe even Shep comes back from injury). Again - not in love with all these moves, but it's what they did and it can turn out good, we'll just have to see.
They’re different tier and caliber players. Love is a utility safety that plays more slot and closer to the LOS as well while McKinney has played deep middle. It’s more valuable. And there is also a report that we wanted to pay Love but he took less elsewhere.
McKinney is going to be looking for Jessie Bates or Justin Simmons money. I’m basing this off one of Jordan Raanans recent pods and it tracks with strong play and his draft pedigree. At this point, I don’t think he’s worth that but even if he’s a notch down, that’s a tag situation. I mean we’re tagging a RB this year.
