Really gutted it out in the 4th. Man Hart is such a different maker. He just doesn't let this team relax. They may struggle at times because they're not the most consistent shooting team but the effort is always there in the 2nd halves.
I was a little worried about Mitch coming back in at the end, but he was making plays. All in all pretty solid work on Jokic. Murray was the one hurting us.
that sealed it..This team never quits, down 13 nothing falling snd the Nuggets were hot they didnt let up and kept attacking...
The Knicks defense really started locking in against a great Nuggets offense in the 4th. I believe the Nuggets starting lineup with Jokic and Murray is the most efficient in the NBA in the advanced metrics
They made Gordon, Brown and Porter Jr try to beat them and they could not do it.
Thibs best coaching job in a while. Grimes with an effective 20 minutes instead of an ineffective 32. Hart getting the call over Quick, who had a bad shooting game. Starters were not exhausted at the end because of the good distribution of minutes. Crisp basketball against a formidable opponent.
RE: I guess I'll have to start another game thread.
I thought we may have peaked too early, but it seems we have our legs back under us. I wanna' go all-out for the stretch, to try and catch the Cavs. But perhaps some load management might be in better order, to save ourselves for the postseason, when it's really needed.
If RJ and Grimes ever start hitting their 3's consistently

Longshot for that to happen. I just hope we stay ahead of the Nets (6 seed) and hope the Heat don't heat up (the current 7 seed)---pun intended of course. Get me the 5 seed and I'm good to go.
and Rj has found something with the bench unit, he can just worry about getting to the rim, doesnt have to worry about being a floor spacer..
and you are starting to see some sets where Rj gets downhill with Randle and Brunson spreading the floor for bim rather than the other way around
Exactly I believe the coaches decision to encourage him to take the 3 ball has hurt RJ...he can't be stopped off the dribble so they should encourage him to dribble drive and work on his mid range game
But while he is better at driving than shooting 3, he is far from unstoppable at driving. I would love to see a stat that shows how many times a player got blocked. I bet Barrett would be at the top of the list.
Ever since returning from that lacerated finger is atrocious. I think it is sub 30%. He was never a great shooter but he was showing signs approaching better efficiency on his jumper before the injury.
Even his lobs which were pretty good before are now often terribly off.
I think he doesn't have full sensitivity in that finger yet and it's definitely affecting his shots.

He's been off all year, even before the injury.
True he started a bit slow as he often does at the beginning of the season.
However the 17 games prior to his injury from basically late Novemeber 11/27 vs Mem to the End of December He was shooting right around 45% on 3 and 48% overall. Best shooting stretch of his career by far.
RJ's 3 point shooting before the injury:
62 for 187
33.16%
RJ's 3 point shooting after the injury:
48 for 163
29.44%
RJ's 3 point shooting overall for this year:
110 for 350
31.43%
He is shooting worse after the injury but it isn't all that different from before. I think I give more credence to the rumor that he didn't put in the time this offseason over the injury.

No doubt it's terrible overall. But he was shooting the heck out of the ball when he started to hit his stride in late November for pretty much a full month right before the finger laceration.
He looked the best we have ever seen him.

During that stretch, if my numbers are right, he shot 41.98% (34 on 81). We've seen that before from him last year. After his horrible start last season, he was on a tear from 3. That is why so many had high expectations for him coming into this year and he fell flat on his face. I also think getting Brunson helped ever Knick but Barrett. Barrett needs the ball to be effective. He isn't getting that with Brunson and Randle. It's a huge factor imo as to why he as sucked this year. I don't see that getting better unless he doesn't start anymore and plays exclusively with the 2nd unit. We all see why Hart is such a great player for this team because he is just the anti-Barrett. He doesn't look to over dribble. He plays good defense. He rebounds well. He just knows how to play off ball dominant players like Brunson and Randle. I just don't see how Barrett fits on this team long term. Brunson isn't going anywhere. Randle ia most likely not going anywhere. Imo, in a perfect world, RJ plays well, builds up his value and gets moved for a better piece that fits with this team. Just my two cents though.

Not opposed to your thinking at all. RJ, OBi a bunch of FRPs we've accumulated plus salary filler like Fournier should absolutely put us in the mix for whatever superstar should come available. We ideally need a high efficiency two way player at the 2,3 or 5. If we can get a Jaylon Brown, Embiid etc this would no doubt be a championship caliber team.
Honestly if Barrett can get back to being more efficient on a night to night basis even this team is awfully good even right now.
I agree that if Barrett can figure his shit out this year, this can be a very dangerous team. A lot of guys had off games today like IQ and Randle and we were still able to pull out the win. I hope Hart and Hartenstein keeo their magic going the rest of the year.
I'd love for them to get knocked down to the 10th seed.

Thibs- load management????? Ha ha ha ha ummm the Knicks aren't load managing anyone unless they are hurt.
"load management" across to Thibs, it would be a miracle. Not in his DNA. He beats players to death in the regular season so they have nothing left in the playoffs. Book it!

When Thibs coached Ewing back in the 90s Patrick was still averaging 37 minutes per game even though he was 30 years old.
And guys today don't play nearly as physical and hard as they did back then.
That's Thibs' mentality. Leopard doesnt change its spots.

I just hope Denver doesnt rest Jokic and Murray tomorrow vs Nets
Personally, I'm hoping the load management doesn't start on Thursday in Orlando. I just got tickets yesterday for my son and I.
But I'm kind of happy about the recent backlash regarding his D being too weak to be a 3x consecutive MVP winner. It's just too big of a flaw.
I don't necessarily think Embiid is better, but I hope he wins it after this nasty stretch he's been on.
