Update on Giants WR Collin Johnson

Y28 : 3/18/2023 11:01 pm
This is some video from Tommy G at Giants Country.

Johnson was having an outstanding training camp when the Achilles injury happened.

This short video shows him working his way back at the indoor facility.

He and Daniel Jones have shown a strong connection in their limited time together and his 6'6" 225 pound frame represents a different type of WR that compliments all the recent signings.

A great sign.

I was really excited about him last summer

Achilles injuries are tricky, especially for speedy receivers. The good thing with Johnson is that he’s not a speed guy, more of a big body contested catch receiver. Hopefully that makes his recovery easier. It will be interesting to see how things play out this preseason.
wow looking good

and months of time to continue recovering - hats off to Collin, his trainers and doctors

SO interesting before that stupid injury last year. Hard to not be cynical at this point but here's to hoping he's back and can make an impact.
Great to see him recovering

well so far.
We need a big WR in the rotation - I hope he works out

Does not look that quick to me.

Still has a way to go with his recovery? Certainly wish him the best.
I ve been wondering why we hadn't heard much about him. He was a big

Quickness was never his strong suit. It's all about his size and excellent ball skills. He lacks speed, won't get a lot of YAC, but if he's healthy he could give us what we hoped to get out of Golladay, the ability to exploit mismatches and make contested catches.

Quicker than expected for 6 months after a torn Achilles.
Glad to see

Have there been any updates on Beavers?
If Johnson is healthy enough to compete in camp…

… he would be a nice asset to have on the practice squad for when injuries inevitably hit. He seems like a long shot for a roster spot, with Waller locked in and Hodgins seemingly established. You never know, of course.
Let's

not overhype Johnson here. He was a nice story, but we're not talking about someone who was "tearing it up."

No but he has a specific role in this offense that was sorely missed last year. He wouldn’t stop me from drafting a guy. He’s young so his chances are better than most for recovery. For me personally it’s the type of wr he is not the player (really don’t know much about him). With Waller we will see more of the kc influence with Kafka. We have the shorter speedy guys the athletic te, and if he works out a big body guy
Johnson provides size in the WR room

He was having a good camp before he was injured
I really liked him at Texas
He may surprise this year if healthy

I don't remember any of his disappointing predecessors having as good a stretch of games as Collin Johnson did in late 2021.
