Another blow for the Eagles- Isaac Seumalo signs with Pitt

Jordan Schultz @Schultz_Report
Breaking: FA guard Isaac Seumalo has agreed to a 3-year deal with the #Steelers, source tells @theScore. One of the best guards in free agency, revered as a smart and tough player.

Tim McManus @Tim_McManus6m
One thing I learned this year is Isaac Seumalo was part of the triumvirate along with Jeff Stoutland and Jason Kelce that formulated the game plan up front during the week. A cerebral player who has been an important part of the Eagles’ o-line.

Jonny Page @JonnyPage932m
I knew he was going... But this makes me very sad. He's a top player who is massively underrated.
You have to
Y28 : 3/18/2023 11:36 pm : link
give Roseman credit. As the tweet below demonstrates, he planned well in last year's draft for all 3 of his major losses:

The #Eagles 2022 Draft will be tasked with taking a big step forward next season. Philly drafted last year preparing for what’s to come:

• Round 1: Jordan Davis (lose Javon Hargrave)

• Round 2: Cam Jurgens (lose Isaac Seumalo)

• Round 3: Nakobe Dean (lose TJ Edwards)
Helps both ways

Rookies looking forward to taking over.

Veterans playing for a new contract.

Winning culture passed along.

Restating the obvious, Well managed team!
Damn I wanted the Giants to sign this guy.

Not only would he help the Giants Oline, but it would give them insight on their offense?! But no, typical Giants don't put much importance on this position.. smh..

More comp picks. Seating matters for long term stability.
I think they drafted Jurgens as Kelce’s successor, not Seumalo’s.
Big Blue Blogger : 3/19/2023 2:06 am : link
Jurgens has played guard seldom, maybe never. If he plays great, hats off to Roseman and the coaching staff. At right guard, Jurgens would have the benefit of playing between Kelce and Johnson. Alternatively, they could flip Landon Dickerson to RG, which might be his best position, and try Jurgens at LG, where his size might be less of a detriment.

The Eagles’ OL will be fine until injuries hit. They struggled without Johnson in 2022. They could be even thinner in 2023.
So they’ll

Yeah, wanted them to make him a priority also.
Getting a Sense (Giants Draft)
varco : 3/19/2023 7:35 am : link
The lack of Giants' OL signing in FA looks to me that they are planning to use the draft as a primary way to improve / stock up the OL. Apart from seeking a #1 WR, I can see the Giants focusing on ILB, OL and DB's. In terms of the Eagles, I'm sure they will draft well, as usual, and come up with replacements for FA losses - they always do. Don't count on them getting old - the Giants will have to improve themselves to beat the Eagles.

Dear god. Typical fan here. We have young guys to step up and the draft to still occur. Your take is pure over reaction and speculation.

For better or worse, Mark Glowinski’s contract dictates that the Giants are a year away from replacing him. So right guard might be a weakness, but it can’t be a priority. And when Glowinski goes, I think Schoen’s roadmap calls for a cheap replacement on a rookie deal, e.g. McKethan or a 2023 draft pick.

Seumalo has an extensive injury history, and has benefitted from playing between a Hall of Famer and an All-Pro. His chemistry with Kelce - on and off the field - is renowned. Put him between Jon Feliciano and the rookie version of Evan Neal, and he might not be a huge upgrade over Glowinski.

I hope Seumalo does great in Pittsburgh, and that Philly’s line collapses without him. The Steelers are taking a risk though, and it’s one the Giants couldn’t readily afford.

I think it was at the Combine, Schoen said something like last year at this time they had five healthy O-Linemen, this year they have fourteen. That led me to believe that they wouldn't be looking at any bigger-name OL's in free agency this year, not even Centers.

I'll echo what Blogger said about the plan for McKethan to eventually replace Glowinski, and add that it wouldn't surprise me if they drafted a similar player late Day3, am OG or an OT who projects to OG worth developing.

I'll also add, as I've said repeatedly, that I hope they draft a Center relatively early.
I am fully surprised that

Feliciano has not been brought back, at least as backup. I'd rather move on, but an upgrade at center really improves the line substantially.

Terms: #Steelers are signing former #Eagles G Isaac Seumalo to a 3-year, $24M contract, per source.

I definitely thought they'd bring him back after they lost Gates, and they still might, but there may be an element (or elements) to the story that we're not aware of. Who knows?

Speculation...they may be content to roll with Bredeson, with Ezeudu and Lemieux as fallbacks since all three are under contract, and have their eyes on drafting a Center, which, as I said, is my hope.
Seumalo was one of my top FA targets

I wouldn’t say that but he is due the credit he is due.

The exciting part is we are heading in that same direction. The way schoen and company are operating is setting us up for sustainable success add in a staff guys want to play for. Maybe one more off-season and we should be right about there. Just a little more patience and the division will be a yearly battle between us and Philly with Dallas just being an annoyance and Washington being Washington unless Danny boy sells it to someone with a clue

Line could be used this time of year every year for the last 10. And then we end of up with a mediocre OL and wonder why.
rumor has it that they really like

Jon Michael Schmidt (hope I have the name right). He is one of the highly touted C/G propects. Bobby Johnson ran his pro day workout. They may re-sign Feliciano, but I suspect they want to move on.

Yes, it's funny how all year Jurgens was hailed as Kelce's heir apparent (and basically penciled-in as a 2023 All-Pro... I kid, but not that much) and now following the loss of Seumalo, he's the planned replacement at LG!

It's the NFL, history tells us you don't stay on top for long, and at some point it's going to be fair to start betting on Roseman losing his golden touch. Time will tell.
still have Johnson & Kelce

but this notion that he drafted their replacements is absurd. Not one of the players listed has proven they can equal anywhere near the production they got from the person who left. If they do, then do cartwheels for him. Until then, all you can say is that they prepared to lose them
