Ian Rapoport @RapSheet Per Saint Omni, #Texans star LT Laremy Tunsil is once again the highest-paid tackle in NFL history, securing a 3-year deal worth $75M with $50M fully guaranteed and $60M in total guarantees. The blindside protector does a true reset on the market. Tunsil represented himself. |
The new number for him will likely start at $20-$22M.

A lot of people passed. A lot of people get fired and lose jobs on crap posted online. He is also on his 3rd team, now? Yes he is good.
It's okay. He passed on Andrew Whitworth too for Ereck Flowers and Bobby Hart.

2nd team.
Not Reese, the Giants. The Giants had a shot at Lael Collins (in the 3rd round) and Tunsil in back to back drafts, when the Giants were in horrible OL shape, and passed on both b/c of “The Giants Way”.
The players selected instead had a meaningless Giant career.
It’s what happens when ownership/management cares more about maintaining a certain image than beating the competition.
It was nice to get those pics of kicked trash bins and reports of frustration in the years that followed. It sure made up for it.
And in the same era gave Christian Peter a shot. But my personal favorite was the 2021 draft and passing on Parsons due to "character concerns" only to draft a malingerer who drives around with a loaded AR in the backseat because he's feuding with townies.

And???? A lot of teams passed on him. Maybe we should grab these guys and be just like Dallas Cleveland or the raiders because it’s done so much for them.
Personally I’ve never had an issue with players smoking pot but let’s not act like the stigmatism about pot hasn’t come a long long way in 7 years

We also passed on Warren Sapp and Randy Moss all because of marijuana. What a joke

Good point...even if the AR was legal...it was weird.
I don't get what the reasons were for Parson being passed on, except that his own college coach was with the Giants.

Franchise tag will work well here if needed
At , x and dexter will eat up 60 million of cap in 2024. Cap is also going up quiet a bit in 24 and probably 25

And you don’t think Schoen has an image of what this team should look like and how the players should present themselves? Don’t you think he is passing on certain players because they have off-field issues? He has an image of what will make a team successful and he is working to get and keep players who fit that image, and I bet it isn’t much different than the image the owners have.
Sapp and Moss were picked before the Giants selected.
What are you talking about?
A lot of teams did.

If you remove Reese's first two years he was one of the worms in GIants history. All GMs make mistakes. But his records after was worse than anything Gettlman did. He passes on Max Unger for a Clint Sintum. Bobby Wagner and Corey Glenn for David Wilson. There's no DG of Reese doesn't hire Mark Ross and stick his head up his ass for 7 years.
The calls for people here how he deserves another shot are amazing

Agree and this wasn’t a defense of Reese’s tenure (I will argue though he had excellent first 4 years - his FA class of 2009 contributed a lot to the 2011 SB, and he replaced Plax and Toomer with Nicks (drafted at the end of round 1), Cruz (UDFA he found) and Mario (3rd round) with excellent results (excellent value).
Having said that, my post was reflective of the fact I am not sure it was Reese’s call to avoid Tunsil and Collins. I am willing to bet he recognised the value of Tunsil at no.10 and Collins in the 3rd round, but was ordered not to draft them.
The talk re the players representing something is overboard. They represent nothing apart from their record. The best player NYG ever had is a character guilty of behaviours way way way worse than anything associated with Tunsil and Collins. This notion that NYG can only employ good boys like Eli and Jones is hypocritical.
Tunsil and Collins turned out to be excellent professionals. A serious DD conducted on them pre draft should have projected that. Avoiding them for the reasons it was done was dumb.
Yeah I’m surprised they haven’t made any moves there. I was hoping they’d have some interest in someone like Ben Jones at C.

I’ll agree w you on how we just don’t know if Reese had the full autonomy w early high profile early picks. My criticism of his tenure is the draft more than his FA picks all GMs.
To your second point while it any GM or owner thinks that that mask pic was beyond the pale they are idiots. There may be less than 25 % of the total NFL that hasnt smoked or snorted or taken Something. It’s just silly.
They drafted DeAndre Baker didn’t they. Highly doubt he passed the Boy Scout eagle test
