Current WRs in the division:
Cowboys: Lamb, Cooks and Gallup
Redskins: McLaurin, Dotson, Samuel
Eagles: Brown, Smith
Giants: Hodgins, Parris, Slayton
Big difference.
Could the Giants be waiting out Arizona? Cooks got 6 of his 18M salary paid by Houston. Maybe Giants get part of D-Hops salary paid and get him for a 3rd or 4th and a 5th. D-Hop might want to go to a team where he has a good chance to be the #1, play in a good system with a good QB. We could be that team.
NYG can clear roughly 14M with a Leo extension. About 8M with a Jackson extension. About 8M with a Dexter Lawrence extension. The have 3.5M right now.
Would be amazing if they could pull off a CB like Peters or Rock and a WR but guess we will see.
Hopkins would be our bridge WR and still go round 1 or 2 or the WR in the draft. No even half decent WR on the team is signed for more than this year except Slayton I think. NYG will still need to get a guy they will have 4 to 5 years of cost control on and hopefully hit on him.

He’s got a few high end seasons left
That's assuming he doesn't get caught again for steroids. I'm not sure I want to pay the price in draft picks and millions on the hope that he can get away with cheating.
He’s been in the league for a long time and never had any issues until last year. It sounds like this PED thing was bogus based on articles I have read. It’s not like he was hanging out with a bunch of pro wrestlers taking anabolic steroids.

I’d be ecstatic. He’s got a few high end seasons left while the young receivers develop.

100% agree with you.

Last year he looked awfully good out there before he got hurt.
Cannot see Schoen paying that while giving up a 2nd rnd pick.
OTC Arizona - ( New Window )

Agreed, that's why the premise is based on Cards possibly paying part of the salary and cost be less than intial ask of a 2nd.

His age and cost are known. And while I wouldn’t trade a premium pick for him, I’d certainly be interested if he comes cheaper than expected, or has compensation that’s variable based on games played (a 3rd that can turn into a 2nd, for example).
Trading for a WR was plan A. It failed. Trading for Waller and signing Campbell, Smith, and Slayton is plan B, along with drafting at least one WR no later than the end of day two.
Posters who think we should trade draft picks (including our first round pick) for veteran WRs think that based on our playoff appearance last season that we're just one or two players "away" from really being competitive. We're not. Despite making the playoffs last year, this team still has a ton of holes, especially on the OL, and at LB and CB.

Yeah but that's not how the money works. If the Giants trade for Hopkins and do nothing with an extension, he will count 19M this year and 15 next. That's actually a steal for Hopkins, however, the Giants have some cap restraints for this season so they'd prefer a lower cap hit year 1.
If the giants extend Hopkins, he will no longer have a 19M cap hit this year. They convert that to a bonus and his cap hit would probably be closer to 10M. The risk is that the cap hit will come later, but the giants have tons of room later.
We cannot go into NEXT season without a #1 QB for DJ.
LOL this is such nonsense.
No. What about Hopkins’ game reminds you of Kenny Golladay?
In the last two years, he’s missed 15 games. Prior to that, 1 game only, I believe. All that concerns me NOW is 2021 and 2022. The earlier, younger years are meaningless to me. So 15 games missed, for whatever reason is concerning to me, esp. since he’ll be 31 soon and carries a hefty contract.

No. What about Hopkins’ game reminds you of Kenny Golladay?
Just from the standpoint of a wide receiver at that point in their career where there is a production drop-off. The question (as with Golladay) is how dramatic will that drop-off be.
I also remember how the BBI consensus was that the Golladay signing was so obviously great that any criticism of it was met with Kmed-like comments...

What injury history?? The guy was an iron man his whole career and then missed games 2 years ago due to injury. That's it. The dude never missed games.

Hopkins was not hurt last year, he was suspended for PED and came back and played 9 games and was on pace for 120 catches and 1400 yards. He got hurt the year before, but it wasn't an injury that will linger(like an ACL).

Well yeah, if people made things up like you did. Where is the production fall off? Golladay has never, ever, ever been the WR that Hopkins is. So the comparison is that they are both WR's that would be chanding teams. Got it.

I don’t agree, lots of people hated that signing. I certainly didn’t want him.
You can’t look at any older player and think, Kenny Golladay especially when the player in question is infinitely better.

So he took PEDs and we are assured he won’t repeat again?
Pass, big time. Sorry Kmed, I know you’d like him here
120 catches
1354 yards
6 TD's
He's still a #1 WR and would probably rank top 5 in the league.
I understand he will cost draft capital and cap dollars and I understand that he's 30, soon to be 31 and I understand that maybe he's not a good fit, but lets not make things up to prove a point. He has not been injured a lot and his production hasn't fallen off.

I understand this and I don't think the Giants are going after him, I'm just saying, lets not make things up. He's not injury prone.

There is a reason he is still dangling out there. The price is not going to be a 2nd rounder. No one is paying a big price for the older WRs with big salaries in this market. Might be a 4th even. If the Cards pay part of his 2023 salary and take a 4th for him I would find that hard to say no to...a 4th and around a 10M cap hit for Hopkins in 2023 to bridge us to a WR or two from this draft and see what guys like Hodgins etc can become makes sense.
Pats are supposedly waiting in the weeds and have interest as well.
Waller
Hopkins
Hodgins
Slayton
Campbell
That looks like something on par with the final 8 playoff teams this year and the WR talent in our own division.
