is still having trouble speaking so I doubt it would be him (he's the obvious choice) so my guess is Jimmy Hart but David Letterman would be an awesome pick.
My Breakfast with Blassie.
Andy kayfabed the world, just like old time wrestlers.
Such a funny film (literally watched it last week as I finished a great book about Andy). Blassie comes off as so "real" and their relationship is very funny.
Mott the Hoople and the Game of Life
Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah
Andy Kaufman in the wrestling match
Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah
Monopoly, 21 checkers, and chess
Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah
Mister Fred Blassie in a breakfast mess
Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah
Let's play Twister, let's play Risk
Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah
I'll see you in Heaven if you make the list
Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah
So Andy, did you hear about this one?
Tell me, are you locked in the punch?
Hey Andy, are you goofing on Elvis? "Hey, baby"
Are you having fun?
If you believe they put a man on the moon
(Man on the moon)
If you believed there's nothing up his sleeve
Then nothing is cool ...
Here's a little agit for the never-believer
Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah
Here's a little ghost for the offering
Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah
Here's a truck stop instead of Saint Peter's
Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah
Mister Andy Kaufman's gone wrestling
Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah
Those episodes of Taxi where Latka turns into Vic Ferrari are still so funny
I guess it sucks to see how the sausage is made but it made me kind of sad to read he didn't really have much of a relationship with the rest of the cast and didn't even want to be on the show. He was obviously incredible regardless.
I grew up watching Taxi re-runs at way too young an age
because Judd Hirsch is a cousin (my grandmothers 1st cousin - so whatever that makes him to me). In my opinion, one of the top 5 funniest shows in TV history and Jim is the greatest character in sitcom history.

The Taxi theme song is my ring tone right now (wife and kids got tired of Alice Cooper singing "the telephone is ringing.." from "Under My Wheels").
It's not my fave TV theme song, but it was one of my all time fave shows and I guess the song puts me in a good mood. Say hi to your first cousin twice removed, Judd.

I never met him. My mother met him once or twice, but my Grandmother grew up with him. I met his parents, who are both long passed at this point, many times.
My wife and I went to see him in a play about 20 years ago and would have liked to have spoken to him back stage, but we couldn't make that happen.
but the "Tales from the Territories" episode about this subject was great and the most in-depth documentary about this subject I've seen.
Kaufman was a crazy guy. The fighting random women thing was hilarious to look back on. He clearly cared about and respected the wrestling industry.
"Tales from the Territories" is a fantastic series.
Regarding Kaufman...loved him on Taxi. However, I remember watching his meltdown on "Fridays," and I also remember him getting voted off of SNL (I voted to ban him). Maybe some of what made him such a controversial comedian made him a great "heel" wrestler. He drew heat with the best of them.
Yes, he was. In real life, tho, I thought he was a total dick
He was a very strange dude and if the stories are right that he didn't get along with his castmates on Taxi, that indicates he had problems, imo. That was a great ensemble cast and they couldn't all have been difficult or unlikable, imo. It would be kind of like - Andy's right and the world's all wrong.

The only one of them with a bad reputation was Jeff Conway (mostly because he was battling drug addiction).

Kaufman also had a bad rep. He didn't want to really be on the show or play his character. He was a constant pain in the ass on set, arriving late, showing up as his lounge singing douche bag character, changing lines, etc.
RE: RE: I grew up watching Taxi re-runs at way too young an age
Felt like he lost his “foreign man” character. (Latka wasn’t the name he jotted down in his notebook), nor were some of the character decisions. He didn’t care to be on a sitcom at all, didn’t socialize with his castmates, locked himself in his car and meditated for long stretches. He also had obsessive behavior (both women.. famously obsessed with brothels, and ice cream) which may well have been signs of being on the spectrum. He was a very strange human being with those close to him often falling out and then re-entering his life and others noting sometimes he had a blank look in his eye.

Andy never cashed a check from the Memphis office. He didn't need or want to make money off of wrestling. He did it for his own enjoyment.
