NFT: Rangers/Canes tonight

ShockNRoll : 3/21/2023 1:53 pm
Rangers look to keep their red hot offense and goaltending rolling tonight with a last gasp chance at winning the division. They need 2 regulation wins against Carolina tonight and Thursday to have any chance, and even then, there's not much runway especially with Carolina having 2 games in hand. No surprise that Igor is in net, and we finally get to see Lindgren after an 11 game absence. Let's hope the boys keep cookin'!

I don't care much about the division.

Would be nice to jump to the 2-seed to get that home ice first round. But odds are it's the NJD either way, so travel isn't a concern.

The extra game at MSG would be nice, even if Prudential will be more like 50/50 crowds.

Most important thing to me is just keep playing good hockey, keep Igor in good form, good forward backcheck, and continute to improve DZ breakouts.
keep the momentum going. Lindgren getting back in game shape is HUGE
Victor in CT : 3/21/2023 2:02 pm : link
will be big boon to Fox and another gritty presence. Mikkola now the vet on the 3rd pair with Schneider and they are set, Harpur quality depth. Lines are really gelling.

Best of all Igor is back to top form.

Much bigger reasons to get home ice than the crowd.
here is some more Rangers news

The #NYR announced they've signed prospect Brett Berard to a 3-year entry level contract. The contract kicks in next season, but he'll report to
@WolfPackAHL
for the rest of this season an an Amateur Tryout basis. The Wolf Pack has 11 games remaining in the AHL regular season.

Especially when your lock in for top three spots
Zib and Tarasenko
Vanzetti : 3/21/2023 3:51 pm : link
Are physical players. Perfect fit for Panarin

fun player. small, but fiery. from RI, played at Providence.

he is a Coaches kid - and it's obvious (his father was head coach at Holy Cross until becoming the associate AD at providence where as mentioned Brett goes).

will be interesting to see how he acclimates to the NHL. Brad Marchand-type? obviously optimistic but due to size and tenacity the comparison will be made at some point.
I think CAR
pjcas18 : 3/21/2023 3:57 pm : link
is toast since they lost Svechnikov for the year.

we'll see....he's hard to replace
I never hated Brady Skjei as much as others, but even I didn't see
Anakim : 3/21/2023 4:24 pm : link
this season coming. But it all worked out. Skjei was never going to replace K'Andre and Lindgren is the perfect partner for Fox.
I wouldn't say Carolina is done without Svechnikov/Pacioretty
ShockNRoll : 3/21/2023 5:37 pm : link
but it's going to be tough, as there are going to be games where they are going to have to outscore teams with elite offensive talent, whether it be the Rangers, Devils, Lightning, Leafs, Bruins, even the Panthers. Not to say they can't or won't win a round or two, but I can't see them getting the scoring they need to beat three of those teams. They are a great team, they do a lot of things the right way, but as a Ranger fan, I would feel very confident going into a series with Carolina.
Was thinking
Bones : 3/21/2023 5:41 pm : link
Rangers might go with 7 defensemen
tonight to protect against possible Lindgren setback.

Pacioretty only played 4+ games.

At the time of the acquisition I felt like good add for the half season he plays, but he didn't even make it to double digit games played. I don't view him as a loss even though he's an awesome player because they never really had him if you know what I mean.

Svechnikov has turned into a elite power forward. He's not the kid knocked out by Ovi anymore. He is legit "impose your will on the opponent" kind of player.

At times he reminds me of Forsberg (Peter not Filip) - so strong on the puck, combined with toughness and skill, obviously a different era but that's how good I think Svechnikov is. Huge loss, insurmountable IMO. But we'll see.

Late night last night, started at 9:30 -- single guy in my early/mid 30s without kids living alone, so it gives me the ability to just do things on my own schedule
Only Igor kept this from being a shellacking.
Victor in CT : 3/22/2023 9:45 am : link
This is the game I wanted to see how the top 6 would deal with a tough smart D. CAR stood across the blue line and the Rangers top 6 couldn't break through and continued to do figure 8s in the neutral zone rather than try to dump it in and set up. It's no coincidence that the goals were scored by the kid line and the 4th line. They got down and dirty. Tarasenko was the only one of the top 6 who battled through.
Another game against physical teams that Kreider and Panarin disappear
Rick in Dallas : 3/22/2023 10:43 am : link
I lose my mind watching Kreider come up small in physical tight checking games

Me too, because he's probably the strongest player on the team besides Trouba.

I don't believe this. You have such a delightful personality.
