The Phillies are absolutely loaded and somehow still underrated IMO.

Well they weren't as loaded as Mets and Braves last year, but it ended up not mattering.

The Phillies were excellent on paper last year too. Regular season record really doesnt matter. Whoever is healthiest and hottest entering the postseason will usually go the furthest.
Doing it in March with no ramp up doesnt make any sense to me.
Love the WBC besides that.

This. Just sucks not getting the best USA can offer.
I spent some time in Japan and their love of baseball trumps this country's love for the game we invented. It's insane over there. I remember walking back to my hotel room in Tokyo and there was a crowd on the sidewalk that I had to walk through. Of course, they are so polite they moved aside for me. I wondered why they had all gathered there and then I saw it. They were watching a small tv through the store window watching a baseball game. They were excited and watching it like it was more important than getting home from work. Made me laugh, but more importantly, it showed me what real baseball enthusiasm is all about. They are nuts for baseball over there.
Great game last night and I tip my hat to the Japanese team.

Play it in Miami with the roof on so cold weather isnt an issue. All the players will be stretched out and used to the grind of the season. If anyone does get injured, there's still a pretty good chance they can be back by the regular season the following year.

I have a feeling next WBC it will be different.
Also since MLB PA and owners were so willing to have a shortened season during lockouts and Covid why can't we have a shortened season every 4 years for the WBC.
That way we don't ask players to play more then the 162 games that they already have for MLB.
Regardless of who won, What a frigging outstanding event this was.
I certainly didn't want any Yankee players there so I'm glad they held them back.
That being said, I wonder if theres a way to make a tournament during all star week? Instead of the allstar games which nobody cares about, make a WBC tournament for a week. That or just after the season because having it in March is really dumb.

If it makes you feel any better, Lars Nootbar, who drove in a run, was born in El Segundo, CA. American. Played for Team Japan due to his mother being Japanese.
