1st round, to me you have to get a very good football player no matter the positions, sometimes an elite player depending on where you are drafting.
I watched ND a lot the past few years and this dude is a beast. I know we traded for Waller and took Bellinger in round 4 last year, but to me that should not preclude Schoen from pulling the trigger if the talent/value isn't there for some other positions. He may not be Gronkowski but he's similar IMO. Should be in the conversation at 25. My thought is, I'd rather draft this guy and know he's going to be a very high floor player and a weapon, vs taking a chance on the 4th or 5th WR in the draft. Thoughts?
My point was that the Giants "need" a receiver but should not settle for one in round 1 if they don't meet the grade. Mayer seems like a 1st round NFL player to me.
Mayer is going to be a fine player - but they are going to have a pick at a number of guys at premium positions. Hoping one of the big time CBs is there.

Unless you are Al Davis, you don’t draft a player in Round 1 because they are the top guy at their position.

I would argue that JSN, Addison, or Hyatt are better than any TE in this draft. Some have Quentin Johnson in that group, but I am not as high on him.
He reminds me of a better Pat Freiermuth, which isn't a bad thing in a vacuum. But when you're talking about a TE in the first, I think you need to have a higher projection in mind to justify the selection.
It would be an offense decided to beat the Eagles and Cowboys by negating their speed with size
Schultz not in the same league as Waller. Not close.

DL/EDGE,CB,WR in my expectation in the 1st 3rds.
An outlier is possible, but I doubt that it is the plan.
So, let's consider the TE position solved for now and turn our attention to other needs.

Look at what we did. Schultz was available for less money and no picks and we still decided to go with Waller. To me, he is similar to Schultz so I am going to say no.

Ok but that isn't my point. My point is Schultz and Mayer are and if the Giants weren't interested in Schultz for jist up to 9 mil for one year then why would they be interested in Mayer for a first round pick? I think you missed what I was trying to say.

Bellinger Goes from mediocre number one tight end to a damn good number 2 tight end
Mayer is good and I think he'll be a good player in the NFL but he's not so much better than some other players I hope we see at 25.
If Mayer somehow slipped to the Giants in the second round I'd be thrilled if they took him. But he won't.
I disagree. There are not many teams that feature a TE and he has not distinguished himself from Kincaid, Musgrave, or the Georgia TE. Good chance all 4 are sitting there at 25.
Thank you.
