Unlike years past we’re not drafting in the top 10 and there will be no blue chips left at 25. At least amongst fans, there’s no consensus on the most pressing need. The best WRs will be gone ... OC is a clear need, but goes against the premium pick / premium position view. DL is a possibility as is a CB.... the problem is the Giants have at least 4 or 5 real needs and only 3 picks on days 1 and 2, and round 4 is watered down because of comp picks... Of course you need 2 to tango but I would not be surprised if JS looks hard for options. Thoughts ?
Matt Burk: Round 6
Mike Webster: Round 5
And there's 100 more.
funny how some always think that
This. Be ready for a trade up imo.
I don't think taking JSN out to dinner means we'd trade up for him. The Giants will take a lot of players out to dinner.
Do you think picks 25 to 32 are viewed significantly different to warrant such a move for a team?
I m thinking it s unlikely.
Well done
If we haven't got a board, none of us can really make the case for anything. Some guys always go earlier than expected, because that team's board is different. Somebody always drops, too. We can say "The best WRs will be gone" but who are the "best" WRs? How do the prospects compare to each other? No two teams define these things the same way.
I kind of compulsively do Giants mock drafts on PFN. The same names tend to go in roughly the same parts of the draft, because there's only one board: The PFN board. (Which they didn't even follow when they did their own mock draft.) When the teams draft, there are 32 different boards, 32 sets of grades and rankings, 32 organizations thinking about system fit.
You're a child. Back to the kids table.
No one who knows what they're doing drafts purely for need and no one who knows what they're doing drafts BPA in a vacuum.
Same with trades (up or down).
The reason against trading down (in general) unless you can pick up a 1st for the next draft is the evidence shows that historically the later in the draft the less likely the chance of hitting on the draft pick.
this is irrefutable, but many fans ignore it and will say things like "yes, 2 more comp picks a 5th and a 6th - we have so many holes we need those 2 extra picks" - this is an ignorant comment mostly because the chances either of those two picks contributing in a meaningful way is remote.
Not to say you will never get a contribution from them, it's just unlikely but the way some fans talk about them with their "draft capital" lingo and pick hugging nature you would think next years starters are coming from those picks.
Anyway, trade up, trade down, stay put and drafting almost any position - all should be on the table and when the Giants see how the draft unfolds they should make their move accordingly.
funny how some always think that
Except absolutely no one has said that this year.
I think this is a good year to trade up and grab a WR or CB you really like. I don't think they 100% need to do it but I think it's a good year to be aggressive to secure an impact player.
We will have a lot more firepower this season no matter what
