Interesting strategy with LW...

clearly salary and cap hit way too high for 2023...would have thought that restructure and pay cut would have been done by now....wonder if there is a stalemate...or just not on the front burner
Not a cap guy

but probably no reason to do it unless they have a FA target they need extra money to make adds during the season.
If they don't do it

he's probably on his way out a year from now.

Exactly. If they don't restructure him it shows that he'll most likely be gone after this season.
Or restructure
ZogZerg : 3/23/2023 6:10 pm : link
to save cap and he is on his way out next year, with a little dead money.
If they like his talent and he wants to be here
HopePhil and Optimistic : 3/23/2023 6:21 pm : link
they’ll figure it out.

His current cap reflects favors he did for the org last year (restructure). His $18 mil salary this year is high, but reasonable. My guess is that he has several more good years left and he’d prefer to spend them in NY alongside Dex and enjoy the resurgence of Giants football. 2-3 year extension at slightly lower salaries in return for guarantees. Win-win.
In a perfect world

I think we'd like to get through the season without extending the deal at all. Clear the full cap hit this year and then decide whether we can/should keep him for 2024 and beyond. But that's not realistic.

My guess is that it's the last move we want to make to clear cap space, but if we need space and aren't making headway with Saquon and Dexy, we gotta do what we gotta do.
Is a trade possible?
SteelGiant : 3/23/2023 6:26 pm : link
How much does it cost us if we move him?

I wonder if talking a A-Shawn is a contingency discussion
It's the last year of his contract

and Phil is right. 18 Mil for a DT who plays every week at a high level is about right in todays NFL. I hope he stays he seems like a leader on and off the field. Hopefully they get the contract extension done. The same is true for Adoree Jackson.
will still be almost $6 million

in dead money in 2024 because of void year added (according to overthecapcom)

I m wondering if there is more to his neck injury

Than we realize or they are saying.

Wouldn't be surprised. He certainly hasn't played up to his contract year (2020) level of performance, that's for sure.

It could be worked out
Dankbeerman : 3/24/2023 8:18 am : link
and they are waiting to pull the trigger on it. Chances are they are ear marking those savings to pay the draft class. They dont need to execute until they are going to spend the money.

This is my suspicion as well. I think they'll be looking for his replacement early in the draft
