But is it known if SF wants him as a C or G? I'm assuming C but I am just curious if it is definitive since he was basically a G his whole career outside of last year.
that they aren't worried about replacing him via either Bredeson or the draft. Kind if feels like a calculated risk but I don't think many here wanted him back either.
Him for his leadership. Ironically didn't say much about his abilities even led to believe he could be backup but liked his leadership. Guess he changed his mind. That's apparently more than vet min and they probably felt strongly they weren't gonna offer more than that. And who knows maybe JF wanted to move on. Takes 2 sides to sign the contract.

I thought I read somewhere that he would play G for them. Can't remember where but on BBI somewhere.
They have a pretty good OL and a pretty good eye for talent. The GM is good. If Feliciano was going elsewhere, with no centers with experience on the roster, it would have made me feel better if it were a team that doesn't know what its doing.
Feliciano and Gates were not good at all last year. People complained incessantly about the interior OL and Feliciano and Gates were part of that problem, glaringly so in some of our losses.
Giants made ZERO intention/effort to bring either of them back, even as backups.
Why? The Giants made the playoffs last year and were trying to win games. Feliciano played better than Gates. He started. Bobby Johnson knows way more than any of us.
issue of who was better last year is a bit moot. Gates came back late due to the serious injury. At that point, do you start swapping out OLs during the middle of a playoff push?
Is that more than a couple of people mentioned that Bredeson looked like the best center we had last year. It seems the staff agreed as it kinda looks like Bredeson is the guy this year. I question it a bit because if that's actually the case, then why the hell did they stick with Feliciano at Center all year? It doesn't make any sense. I wonder if they have another plan. And what's Plan B and C. We can sign all the WRs we want, Megatron in his prime but nothing is going to look much better without a decent center and better OL play. Especially against the Cowboys and Eagles.

and played like it.
They had the intent of cutting Gates before the season started, but relented.
Neither would be anything more than depth this year. They will upgrade this off season

I would assume G only because he was a decent G and a terrible C.
I don’t think they thought he was ready for that kind of workload just coming back from that injury

I wish they let Gates play C last year.

Definitely a possibility especially in a new system.

Perhaps they liked Gated even less?
Or a versatile backup

It’s pretty simple.
That they didn’t is even more revealing about what they thought of Gates as their center.
Bobby Johnson too. Remember he was his position coach both at BUF and NYG.
But its a two way street - maybe Feliciano didn't want to come back.
And... Gates me be one of the most over hyped player on this board. Our interior oline was a disaster - and he was still rotated in and out.
Trusting Schoen so far.
I still think IOL is going to be high priority in the coming draft.
Maybe they are looking at the draft for someone who could play tackle or guard.
Giants know they still have to fix the o line.
Good luck to him.

100%.
My thoughts exactly

But he was pushed back at the point of attack and was not very apt at picking up stunts, which is absolutely crucial for a center.

Me too.
I'd like to see a Center by Round 4 if we don't add an OL through FA.
The $ Gates got seems to be more based on what we thought he could be and less on what he mostly actually delivered.
