The Seahawks and Broncos are on record that they will add this play next year.
Over/under the Giants employ it within the next two seasons. I say under
This is so dumb to me. This isn't some crazy play that needs to be practiced all training camp to be run properly. It could have been put in during any week.
Hurts is basically a mediocre pocket passer but has evolved into a huge weapon because any time it is 3rd and less than two to go, it is basically an automatic first down. They have shortened the downs from 10 yards to 8 yards.
of course the league won't challenge it, it increases scoring which is what the league wants
personally i hate it. it's more a rugby play than football and it takes the fun out of watching what was previously an intense short yardage plays. now it's more of a yawn i know they are going to get it
For most new trends, eventually DCs will come up with adjustments
he's a sitting duck. Only a matter of time til LBs start launching themselves over the line and snap one of them in half. If the first down can't be stopped the D will look to make the O pay for it.
Then maybe teams start using designated sneak guys short enough to completely hide behind blockers.
that they ever changed that offensive players could push each other forward. I still players get pulled a lot and that never gets called even though that is still illegal.
The league will keep this until a QB inevitable gets their leg stepped on and seriously hurt.
the offense knows the snap count, so when you have that advantage that push is all you need to get the half yard. The play is stupid, but every team can use it now and although Jalen Hurts is a particularly strong qb, I don't see his strength as something that is anything more than marginal in the reason why the play works. I do think though that when you have all 32 teams doing it and defenses trying imaginative ways to stop it, injuries will pile up.
Everything old is new again. Ever hear of the T Formation?
Also called the full house backfield. 2 HBs and a FB line up behind the QB.
Whether it is first, second, third, or fourth down: QB hands off to one back and the other two trail him and push him through the line. The QB can sit back and relax.
That formation would also make for some wonderful play-action passing plays.

His strength is what protects him during the tumult.

Either Newton’s 1st or 3rd law (take your pick) involves equal and opposite forces. Now that it’s every week, every game, DC’s. will go to work. Of course, that will lead to the fake push, followed by the fake defensive alignment, and 3rd down will be fun again. Only question is the over/under on weeks it takes for this to happen.
My buddies and I were talking about this during the SB
The way to stop it is to sign two huge defensive tackles with psycho attitudes to come in on these short yardage situations.
On the first attempt, they dive at the knees of Kelce and can opener him. If he heads out of the game on a stretcher....that play will be washed out really fast.
If one or both get suspended, that is fine because they are bottom of the bench.

Exactly. It removes the brilliant exciting defensive stop on 4th and 1 or 4th and 2. Some of the greatest plays in NFL history.
strangely seem to forget that while the Giants never went full rugby scrum, we basically ran the same play several times with Saquon as the designated “pusher” behind Jones

I don't recall seeing that a single time from the Giants.
they need to start flagging Kelce for pushing the ball forward a half a yard each time.
Amen to this. It's at a point where the entire league knows he does it, fans know he does it, so the officials know he does it. Why is he never flagged or the ball re-set at the very least?

Rinse and repeat.
All you need to do is jump off sides as soon as the offense lines up. This assumes you are at the one yard line. Keep going off sides. The NFL will see that after 50 offsides, the game has to change.

this would be the best thing ever
Quote:
teams will have a little person ball carrier in a full house backfield including 2 huge players who will throw him over the GL.

But the runner definitely gets a jolt.
Like going to a flex schedule late in the season for Thursday games.
Thursday night football - ( New Window )
Vikes LB tried forearm to DJ’s Adams Apple, but too late to prevent the first down.

We should all be so lucky to find someone who loves us as much as the NFL loves Thursday Night Football.
The league will keep this until a QB inevitable gets their leg stepped on and seriously hurt.
Someone is going to get seriously hurt.

Sound strategy.
His strength is what protects him during the tumult.
Bingo!
It’s hard to defend, so the next option is make coaches think twice about risking their QB.
this was once legal and almost led to football being outlawed due to the deaths it was causing.
