NGT: Former NFL Player Derek Wolfe on the Rogan Podcast

Said that he would take adderall before games, microdose mushshrooms, and that he was once cleared to play 2 weeks after being paralyzed for 3 hours.

There has been a few players recently speaking out about team doctors. It seems to be an open secret that painkillers are very liberally distributed in the NFL too (like toradol injections). Do you think more stringent rules are coming as it relates to player health/team medical? I'm not sure how the NFLPA would feel about more transparency when it comes to that.
Agree That More Transparency / Uniformity of Treatment Needed

Clearly, standards of care are needed and more transparency (league review of diagnosis / treatment) would be ideal. However, a more immediate remedy would be expansion of active rosters, reducing some pressure to get players back on the field too quickly before they healed. Owners would probably veto.
I read Strahan's autobiography...

many years ago. Think it came out right after his playing career ended? He called toradol shots "Vitamin T." Said you would often times know who took them as you would see a little red blood dot on their ass through their uniform. Said he took plenty of them to play. NFL is huge money and a violent game.
YMMV

I have had Toradol injections in the ER from the VA for severe pain from old injuries and it did nothing for it. I can imagine it works on most young healthy athletes, but I doubt they are shooting them up regularly as depicted in Any Given Sunday. At least in today's NFL.

Certainly, Mahommes may well have been treated with something to get through those games the way he did. Although, the DRs I see in the VA and my dentist think I am insane for the level of pain I am willing to endure without pharmaceuticals.

I will be the one to advocate for anything natural in reasonable quantities. If I could use something, I would. My current career doesn't allow anything big pharma deems a threat to their bottom line. Hopefully that will change before I leave this world as it is one of the very few things that helps people that have permanent injury.
Nothing harder to treat than chronic pain. And while teams need to he

For how players are treated medically many players know the risks. The years and years later regret it. You can choose to walk away. The money is too big too but that’s not always on the team.

I don’t crew how much they test for PEDs. My experience tells me players will push everything boundary to get an edge. Think all of that stuff is good long term?

Whoa, that makes me think of a picture of Feliciano from last year where it looked like a blood stain on his rearend. I always thought tbe picture was fake or just dye that rubbed off from the field...maybe not
"Vitamin T" is toradol and not a narcotic or controlled substance

Not saying the NFL doesn't have a drug problem. But we should also be clear that they aren't lining guys up like horses and shooting them full of opiates.

Didn't they stop testing for cannabis? That's a step in the right direction.

The NFL is playing with fire by keeping the rosters limited, while expanding the number of games played. Honestly, the rosters should be expanded to 70 players (get rid of the practice squad), and you should have at least 3 byes during the regular season, to allow players to heal up.

Going to 3-4 byes would allow the NFL to keep the extended season, and still give all the networks enough games to fulfill their contracts. You'd get better play, too.

This, this, this and more this.
Keeping the rosters at 53

has been wrong for a while. Just to add money to owners pockets. The NFLPA has to bang on this and get it up to 60 at the very least. They are putting players health at risk but counting on the desperation of players who want to play in the NFL to bite the bullet.
You should have a salary cap
Blueworm : 3/26/2023 9:29 am : link
Or a team size limit, but not both.

Who cares if I can run a team of 100 players at $2M apiece?

Alas, it will never be.

I have had it for kidney stones--it really works for that. Of course, I wasn't using it to make it possible for me to play a violent game with a bunch of 300 lb fellows.
