He needs to be moved permanently to the bullpen. He's done it before and he's done it well. He showed he could pitch short relief on consecutive days without issue. What he has not been able to do throughout his career is pitch a lot of innings.

Absent the game he pitched against the Pirates this spring he’s been horrendous.
Schmidt was already "up" even before this Sevy news! Due to Rodon and Montas being injured, Schmidt is the 5th starter. With Sevy going down (the third guarantee after death and taxes), now we need another starter...and I have no idea who that will be. We have very little starting pitching depth past Schmidt.
So long as its of the 15-20 day variety injury, no big deal
Remember that because the Yanks have multiple off-days in the first several weeks, the 5th starter will only be needed once the first three times through.
Also, the most likely outcome is that the Yanks carry an extra long reliever- and when they need a SP, they'll just call up whoever is lined up that day- then send them back down for another reliever.
Yet again, missed two months last year with 'mild' lat strain.
I'm sorry, this guy is made of glass, they picked up his option this year for 15 mill. For three years he gave them about 20 innings.
Last year, about 100 innings, was paid 40 mill. to do so! (4 years).
Let him walk after the season. I'm done with this guy...
RE: Volpe has a single, double and triple so far this afternoon.
This can’t even be a competition anymore at this point.
.
I think he has earned the starting job myself.
They can maneuver the 40 man with Montas going on 60 day DL.
Florial comes off 40 man, if he gets DFA'd. I don't think Florial will make the team?
and I hope we can swap IKF and some other fodder for a starter that can give us some early innings. Rumors about a move with Seattle.
Looking at the schedule again, I think this is a big nothingburger.
The Yanks need a 5th SP once before April 23 (likely on April 13). Based on the latest news that Rodon is already throwing, Rodon would be quite likely to return by the 23rd, meaning the Yanks need a single game spot starter on the 13th. Not a crisis.
Outstanding news and well deserved. Can’t wait to watch him every day
Nooooo!!!!!!!!! They going to ruin him just like that they did Joba and Hughs.
/jk
I suspect that this mean Peraza will go down and play everyday at multiple positions. Speaking of multiple positions, does anyone think that the Yankees were serious about IKF in the outfield? I mean most of us would rather see him out there than Hicks but IKF hasn't been out there in the majors

No, I suspect Peraza will play everyday at SS. He is the far superior defensive SS. The roadblock is that DJLM and Torres are on the roster. If they could move Torres, I suspect that Volpe would move to 2B, where his skills play better and Peraza would be the SS.
People might not realize it, but Peraza is a legit 20/20 guy when he finally gets his shot.
True but with Sevy don’t hold your breathe.
Who takes his spot?

C2 - Higashioka - bench
1B1 - Rizzo
IF - Lemahieu - bench
2B - Torres
SS - Volpe
3B - Donaldson
Util - IKF - bench
RF - Judge
OF - Cabrera
OF - Hicks
OF -???
DH - Stanton
Looks to me like they send down Peraza to regain some form and that there’s one spot left at the moment for one of Ortega/Florial/Calhoun
On performance Florial shouldn’t make it, but who knows

Jay’s b-lineup, but 5IP, 0 hits, 3 Ks, Ill take it from the guy who was supposed to be the eighth pitcher. He’s a prospect, too, not just a body.
Looked very good through 5. Could be the fifth starter for a while.
Amazing. Can't believe it. Now if they can trade IKF...
