Contract details: Jamison Crowder and Amani Oruwariye

Dan Duggan @DDuggan21

Contract details on a few recent Giants signings as I board my flight to Phoenix for the owners meetings:

• WR Jamison Crowder: 1 year, $1.3M with $27,500 guaranteed (signing bonus). He can earn up to $100K in per game roster bonuses. It’s a VSB deal, so $1M cap hit.

• CB Amani Oruwariye: 1 year, $1.2M with $52,500 guaranteed (signing bonus). He’ll earn a $75K bonus if he’s on the roster for any game this season. Another VSB, so his cap hit will be $1.1M.

Forget impacting draft plans, these contracts show both players are on the bubble.

hope that some of these one-year signings can show enough for a multiple year signing next off season. The CAP was so bad last year that this could not be done.

VSB were pretty much all they did last year and could do outside of Glowinski and Feliciano so this response literally makes no sense
Don't think anyone thought these signings would impact
ZogZerg : 3/26/2023 9:30 am : link
draft.

These are good moves by these 2 players.

A WR in Dabs offense and DB in Winks Defense can certainly help them next year if they can do well.
I don't see Crowder making this team but he seems like
robbieballs2003 : 3/26/2023 9:35 am : link
insurance and a guy that can stick on the PS and be brought up for games if need be.
There are still some quality FA CBs available
gersh : 3/26/2023 9:36 am : link
It’s interesting. You want to develop your young talent but ARob is coming off of injury and Flott may still be a year away, physically, if he ever gets there. He’s just built narrow.

would have signed these guys to two year deals at 4 million per. Glad we have someone running the show who isn't overpaying in free agency
Crowder actually has the best resume of any WR on the team.
Pepe LePugh : 3/26/2023 9:42 am : link
Career 415/4667/28. Injury history is the concern. Soft tissue injuries in 20 and 21 limited him to 12 games. 22 season only 5 games due ankle fracture. Best year was 2019: 78/833/6. 16/17 seasons only marginally lower numbers. Not a WR1, but a quality player when healthy.
I always feel it is dishonest to say.....cap hit is 1.1 or whatever
George from PA : 3/26/2023 9:47 am : link
As it is offset by the player that would be replaced.....

So cap hit is usually in 1000s, if that...

Obviously, prove it deals.....and both make a ton of sense as if they show their best....both could be starters.

Crowder hasn't been relevant in years hence the cheap contract. We'll see what happens but, to me, he's insurance for injuries.
The allocation of resources and team building under Schoen has been

Impressive. The true test is the draft. It’s the only way to build and sustain a winner.

As for free agency, IMO the value at FA CB will be too good to pass up a one year deal. I also expect another DT, but the options are fewer there so they may count on a rookie in the rotation. DJ Davidson was very serviceable last year.
Crowder is going to surprise some of you.
Spider56 : 3/26/2023 9:49 am : link
He’s a more dependable version of James and he already has a rapport with DJ; no doubt they’ll work together this spring. Worst case, he’ll be the gadget option until Wandale is back. I think Shep will be the odd man out as he retires to a coaching career.

"professional" depth. Someone like the DB could surprise since he's still young. Crowder is good insurance for Wan'dale's recovery, allows them to work Campbell more on the outside too.

Not sure I agree with your concept of relevance? As I said, he’s been slowed by injuries the past 3 years, but as recently as 2020, he was contributing 5 rec and half a TD per game in the 12 he played. I’d agree that he wasn’t relevant last year, and has to prove he can return to form.

Watching the staff do well with low cost vets last year, gives me confidence in the pro personnel scouting Brown is leading. The Giants seems to have a nice rapport between what the system demands and what the scouts are finding.

I hope the heirarchy makes it financially improbable that Brown ever leaves, Albeit a GM positional offer can’t be too far away, imo..He’s a keeper

That’s how I see it as well PR guy. Good vet presence in the locker room Al’s Shep but sees the field.

I have to agree with this. Or maybe it's the optimist in me. To me he has a better chance of making the team than Shep and I love him. But can he return from his injury? Not sure he ll be a coach but think it's real tough for him to make this team unless it's late in the season when someone goes down.
I’m not sure how to view Crowder
BSIMatt : 3/26/2023 12:31 pm : link
Because his second stint in the NFL was with the Jets, during the Darnold years and it’s been well documented how dysfunctional that offense was during that time. If that’s what we are judging him on, I think a move into the Kafka/Daboll offense with Jones trending up could breathe new life into his career. I can’t read too much into his time in Buffalo because it was so short and he was trying to break into one of the top established offenses in the NFL…but Schoen/Daboll I’m sure were able to get some intel on how the Bills evaluated Crowder during his short time there.
As has been noted
gersh : 3/26/2023 3:24 pm : link
Investing low contracts in younger guys with upside is the best way to fill in holes in a roster. This staff has only had one draft so needs to find talent elsewhere for now.

I believe makes the team. He is a very good pos receiver. Unless he gets injured during preseason.

Robbie is right. This is the NFL a lot can change in 3 years. Players bodies quickly breakdown from tackle sports. Either age or injury can drastically chnage a players explosion and agility on the field in just 1 year. This doesn't guarantee Crowder is Clam Chowder but he is a risky bet not being healthy in 2 years.
