"I think he really adapted to the things we were asking him to do," Daboll told NFL Network's Judy Batista Saturday at the annual league meeting in Arizona. "We tried to implement a lot of the things he likes to do. That's just another step going into the offseason of adding more pieces. More players around him. And also him growing into the quarterback we think he can be."

Must have been a really exciting time.in the building as it became clear the franchise QB really was already in thr building. On top of everything he showed this year we also know his mental toughness is top notch as well.

Well said
Not so odd. If they were there 100% and there were no questions, DJ's deal would not have been a two year deal. He would have gotten a record-breaking contract.

I think his mental toughness is why I always believed in him, he always stayed the course no matter what crumbled around him. It is good to see the powers that be sent from not picking up his 5th year option to really believing in him. It gives me confidence in not just Jones but the staff for remaining open minded.
Or they think he can be elite. His statement can be taken a lot of different ways, I view that as Daboll saying Jones hasn’t hit his ceiling yet.

I find the way they talk about Jones so odd. "Growing into the Quarterback we think he can be" is odd phrasing for a guy who won a playoff game and they just handed $40 million per year to.

I took it as ascending to the next level
...that the comment was meant as a compliment.
Well, now I think he had it, but the rest of the team kept it hidden.
Its not odd at all. They obviously think he can continue to grow and mature. He is going into year two in the offense. And his weapons were extremely limited, so they havent seen the best of what they think he can do.
