25. New York Giants – WR Quentin Johnston, TCU An athletic, plus-sized (6-3, 208 pounds) target could nicely stabilize a position group currently awash in short-term options. Johnston averaged 19 yards per catch in college and had a dozen TD grabs over the past two seasons – a period when no Giant had more than four TD catches in either season. Johnston could be the answer that since-released WR Kenny Golladay wasn't. 26. Dallas Cowboys – C John Michael Schmitz, Minnesota HC Mike McCarthy wants "to run the damn ball' in 2023. A good start might finally be addressing the center position, which hasn't been the same since Travis Frederick retired after the 2019 season. Schmitz would be an upgrade who could help McCarthy achieve his stated objective. |
Obviously we need/hope to get it right with any pick, especially first few rounds, imv, but as a fan, there’s less “pressure” when picking, say, 25 then in the top 5.
I’m probably in the 1% who would love a stud C in the first round (if one exists) to anchor our IOL for perhaps a decade or more

+1
More picks, from more pundits - ( New Window )
Same here. Although a RB or P/K would probably make me scream as well.

I’ve been beating that drum since the season ended. No more projects get a true center
A) such a horrible problem to have 😂
B) they are on different years with the 5th year option if we took a center in rd 1. That should help some
C) after years of wishing we had one we could keep I welcome it with open arms

having to eventually pay 3 first round picks on the OL will be rough. That's a LOT of dollars allocated to this position group. That's why I'm NOT in favor of forcing a pick of a center in rd 1.

Yeah. I can’t worry about this yet. Get the OC, deal with it in 5 yrs. Another reason to keep drafting positions that will have a high salary cap hit. Wr, cb, oline, ER
That would be deja vu all over again like with Biadasz.
But I believe Dallas won't waste draft capital required in round one for a player.
There are too many options to just focus on one player. You have to have a plan B when you're on the clock or you will have a terrible draft reaching for players.
And yes, I understand that the Giants are picking at 25 and not in the top 10, but based on positional value, I just can't see the Giants using a 1st RD pick on an OC.
It's far more likely they go CB or WR @ 25 and wait until day 2 or even 3 to take a developmental OC. The Giants could then use Bredeson or a FA vet center as a bridge.
Hopefully when Sy posts his OL player evaluations, folks will stop calling for a center in RD 1.

I will never stop calling for a C at 25, PROVIDING he’s a stud. I also know that there is a slim to none that we do so..So your prediction of NO C is virtually a slam dunk, if at all..
Picking a WR/C in rounds 1/2 is exactly the mentality that will jam up a franchise.

I haven't followed the C prospects. But I have read in a couple of places where it made it sound like there isn't a stud C in this year's draft.
If so, then no at 25
CB/WR/DE.
IMO.

NFL teams do not place a high value on the center position, as evidenced by the fact that no OC has been chosen in the top 10 in more than 50 years!

The issue I see with this OC class is the lack of lateral speed. Tippman and Wypler can get you a solid first step, but not sure they can play with the range Feliciano showed
Outside zone concepts will make it tough with any of the starting caliber OCs from this group

As I said, if there’s no stud at C, then you don’t draft one high
If the Giants agree, then that’s that.
I know not everyone is a draft expert, but if you just look at mock drafts, yiu know there’s not a C worth the 25th pick
Im hoping that the guys who really watch film here will weigh in on some of the guys we might take.
It’s all becoming clear now
My apologies fellas
