Interesting comment from Schoen- the Giants are negotiating for extension with Dexter Lawrence but have had no negotiations for re structure or extension with Leonard Williams.
Barkley would be foolish to sit out the season. A players value does not go up with age. A two or three year deal at 10-12 million per would set him up for several lifetimes and seems to the best that a running back can get these days.
Giants - (

Schoen’s got this!
Leo is up there in age and banged up every year. Hes still good but not long for the team. Don’t kick the can down the road.
Saquon probably should have taken the deal but at this point it’s the franchise tag. Here’s to him having an all world year and getting paid by someone at the end.
The Giants would be foolish to give SB a contract close to what they previously offered. Anything with more than $10MM of guaranteed is nuts at this point. Would be OK with drafting a RB high and cutting him, if he does not sign tag before draft day. I would have the rescind paper set up to send before the draft starts.

Agree that a cut of LW is now a possibility. As to Barkley - they are not going to screw him, period. It is possible that they work out a deal to sign and trade him to a team willing to pay him more, but I doubt it. I think the last offer will stand. What they may do is sign him to a 1 year deal that will allow him to move on after the season.
“When he’s healthy, I still think Leo’s a good player in the league,” Schoen said. “When you look in the draft the last few years, the defensive tackles are just not producing as they have in the past. So it’s becoming harder and harder to find those guys. We want to be solid up front on both sides of the ball. We know what the [cap] number is, but we still think he plays at a high level.”
Be interesting how it shakes out.
If he does not need to I don't see him rushing. You have the draft and perhaps Williams is more willing to sign a favorable extension as we get closer to camp or JS lets him play out the season. I'll be surprised with a cut.
Bobby Skinner thinks they add another void year and suffer some more future dead money. Not ideal but may be unavoidable.
