Mike Tannenbaum mock draft

DanMetroMan : 3/28/2023 2:12 pm
25. New York Giants

Jalin Hyatt, WR, Tennessee

Darius Slayton led Giants receivers with just 724 yards last season. Despite re-signing Slayton and Sterling Shepard and adding a few pass-catchers in free agency, it's safe to say the Giants need a standout wide receiver. I love how Hyatt flourished in Tennessee's offense when Josh Heupel stepped in. He is slightly undersized at 6 feet and 176 pounds, but he has a lot of speed and posted 67 catches for 1,267 yards and 15 touchdowns last season. Hyatt could be the Giants' WR1 as soon as the draft card is turned in.

(He unbelievably has Hooker going...#5 overall... I am very open about the fact I don't watch much college football but previously the highest I saw Hooker was early round 2.. 5th? Wow)

5. Seattle Seahawks (from DEN)

Hendon Hooker, QB, Tennessee

OK, this one might raise some eyebrows, but hear me out. I think Hooker is really under-scouted right now, largely because he's coming off the torn ACL in his left knee. But I love his strong arm and 6-3 frame. Before the injury, Hooker looked great for the Vols. He led the nation in yards per attempt (9.5), threw two interceptions over 11 starts and was a top-10 passer in terms of completion percentage (69.6%). I see a potential franchise quarterback and someone who can lead an offense. Go watch his performance against Alabama if you disagree.

The Seahawks recently re-signed Geno Smith, but this is an excellent opportunity to draft and develop Hooker while also letting him rehab the knee. Smith turns 33 this season, and his new contract offers Seattle various outs over the next three seasons.

That would shake things up

a lot.
I have Richardson going to the Seahawks
KDavies : 3/28/2023 2:17 pm : link
I think Geno gives a nice bridge for Richardson to learn, and that Richardson needs some good coaching to unlock his potential.

agreed that is high for Hooker
I think there's a real possibility...
BMac : 3/28/2023 2:18 pm : link
...that Hooker is taken at 4 by Indy.

Hooker is a round 3-5 type prospect
I think the combine really hurt Hyatt. He ran a 4.40 40 yd. He isn't
Ira : 3/28/2023 2:36 pm : link
a big guy and he's not a great route runner. He needed to show more in straight line speed than he did. We already have two wideouts that are faster than him.
Hooker?
Spiciest Memelord : 3/28/2023 2:39 pm : link
Tannebaum did trade for Tebow.
I'd be a fan.
barens : 3/28/2023 2:43 pm : link
Hyatt looks like a better version of Slayton to me.

Interesting how he has Quentin Johnson as the first WR taken, and Flowers is taken a couple spots before us.
not a big Tannenbaum fan

some things he predicts, I can get behind. Hooker at 5? Me no thinks!
I could totally see it
BSIMatt : 3/28/2023 2:49 pm : link
The Giants have shown through their actions they are emphasizing speed on offense. Waller, Barkley, Breida, Slayton, Campbell, Smith. Hyatt would match that trend. I don’t think the combine hurt Hyatt at all. The combine is just one test..and 4.4 flat is legit speed. More importantly what he shows on his game film backs it up.
Lately most mocks

No longer even have Hyatt in the 1st

ryanmkeane : 3/28/2023 2:58 pm : link
You take a WR in round 1, that guy has to be a bit more dynamic than Hyatt IMO.
aren't all the WRs dropping
Chip : 3/28/2023 3:03 pm : link
At least on the Simulators they are. Even though that does not matter. None seem to be going in the top 10. One will drop to us of the top 4.

Nobody is going to drop Hyatt because he ran a 4.40 instead of a 4.32.
Hooker at 5 is kinda like Jones at 6
ZogZerg : 3/28/2023 3:15 pm : link
If you like a guy, you draft him.

Hooker certainly has a lot of question marks around him.

Jones was a consensus top 20 pick. Hooker is nowhere close to that.

NFL drafts blow up most mocks. There are a handful of guys that start to get a feel for how the NFL feels about these prospects closer to draft time and their mocks start to reflect that(that’s when people start talking “risers”). Those are the mocks I’d actually pay attention to, the vast majority are just white noise.

If he was a consensus top 20 pick, nobody would've made such a big deal over him being taken at #6. It was more a case of him being considered a "late first round, early second round" prospect. Hooker seems to be slotted as a 2nd round prospect (maybe early 2nd, maybe late 2nd), but he could be a late riser among prognosticators as more leaks emerge from the pro scouts.

I'm sorry Ryan, but you are going to be surprised by how soon Hooker goes. I was hoping he would fall to the Giants in the 2nd round. That is not going to happen.

Jerry Rice ran a 4.6. I don't remember anyone catching him from behind.

The kid scored FIVE touchdowns against Alabama. How much more dynamic can you be?
A 25 y.o. QB in the 1st?

MT is a former GM for a reason.
Or a genius for a guy who’ll be 30 when his 2nd contract comes up; if he’s good, extend; if not dump him

I don’t think consensus means what you think it does..

I'll buy the argument Hooker is taken earlier than most anticipate, but 5? Is Tannebaum smoking peyote?
Peyote is typically injested, not smoked .
BigBlueNH : 3/28/2023 10:04 pm : link
My second year at UVa, for spring break, some friends and I drove to the Mexican border and picked 2 garbage bags full of peyote, came back and supplied the whole school for Easters weekend (at the time, the 2nd biggest party in the country after Mardi Gras). That was spring 79. I've grown up since then.

Stop Jones was a top 10 pick all day. Not a 3rd to 5th rounder. That’s just plain dumb.

I had DJ with a 2nd round value. Sy'56 had him as a borderline back end of the first/early 2nd round grade.

Most analysts just didn't have him that high.

has taken a lot of starts and improved annually in good conf.
age may be a plus if he is a mature person. he can start asap.
in 15 yrs the best qbs will all play to 40 anyway.
5 is crazy high and SEA is all in on geno for 1-2 yrs.
but ATL 8 WASH 16 TAMPA 19, all possible lookers.
if he lasts beyond, ok maybe SEA at 20, then BAL 22.
