NGT: NFL approves the number ZERO for jerseys

Rjanyg : 2:59 pm
I know this may not be a big deal but I can't stand when I see somebody wearing 0 as a jersey number.

If anything, I think it would be better for teams to un-retire numbers of older players and put them in the ring of fame.

Numbers like 1, 4, 7, 14, 32, 40, 42. 50 for the Giants should be put back in circulation. 10, 11, 16, 56 and 92 are off limits IMO.

Thoughts?

Nothing wrong with 0

It was a no Brainer decision by the owners
It’s going to be weird seeing guys wear 0

Just like seeing Edge Rushers wearing single digit numbers. But we’ll get used to it.
Today was the day I realized
JALAPEN0 : 3:12 pm : link
that the number 0 was not in use in the NFL.

I personally was never big on player numbers. I can remember a crazy long.last name but not their number.

I can tell you the height weight birthplace and basic stats of my many players.

But if you ask me what number they are I'll scratch my head and look for ways to leave the building.
I remember 00 Jim Otto with the Raiders

I will say. I still (kind of) don't like WRs and LBs wearing a single digit. Not something that I'd throw a brick through my TV or flip a car over, but it does annoy me.

I'm not. It still looks weird lol
A major issue
Joe Beckwith : 3:45 pm : link
now out of the way.
I know others were concerned about officiating inconsistencies, but they can address that at 2:30-2:35 on Friday to beat the traffic.😉
This does not bother me
SteelGiant : 3:47 pm : link
What it does, is make think who is going to be the player Ocho Cinco’s this and legally changes their last name to “Player Name”

Just so the jersey is just like the one you see in the magazine when building a custom jersey.

Yes this is dumb which is why I can see it happening.

But I do not care, zero is a digit and should be allowed.

I'm the complete opposite when it comes to names. I was always terrible at remembering player's names, especially if they had the same last name. Jerry Porter? Joey Porter? Forget it.

I was going to start a thread one day on how people remember all of these names. What's funny too is everybody who I grew up around I could rattle names off of the top of their heads, Tv announcers, everything. If a player has a name like Osi Umenyiora, they better make some big plays so their name comes up so I can learn it or else forget it! Or that other dude's name on the Milwaukee Bucks lol

I want to say Burroughs was his last name.

Always looked weird.
Just zero but not double-zero?
Mad Mike : 4:04 pm : link
Double-zero always struck me as pretty badass. You better be able to back it up, but it seems like a good football number.
Bold step.
Fixing the game. 😂
I don’t care about…
anyone wearing a 0, but why should only the recent retired numbers stay retired? Because you’ve heard of them?
Well it's better than nothing!

Good Now Ban Wearing “1”

Always seems pretentious to me, starting with Cam Newton.

I have no problem with the #Zero
Beer Man : 6:36 pm : link
IMHO, I would rather see a ring of fame than jerseys retired; sooner or later the team will run out of numbers. As a compromise, maybe retire a number for as long as a player is living. The one exception, might be LTs number; as he is a GOAT.

I'm with you. Settling into my 40s nicely. Have mellowed with age but there's no shortage of dumb shit roll my eyes at.

Dude, I’ve heard of all of them. Title, Strong, Morrison, Blozis, Lemans…..I study NYG history. Just saying after so many years being retired it would be good to release them.

The Giants have 10 retired numbers, probably the most of any team. I get having great players and wanting to honor them and I appreciate it.

Once the player dies, the number should be unretired.
Of course,
Nomad Crow on the Madison : 3/29/2023 8:21 am : link
that means 16 for the Giants would be unreturned as well.

Yeah I won't lie, I think Gifford being a long time Giant and only played for the Giants should stay retired.

We have 12 retired numbers. Maybe half of the players numbers should be brought back into circulation:

The 5 below are numbers I think should be brought back:

1 - Ray Flaherty
4 - Tuffy Lemans
14 - YA Tittle
32 - Al Blozis
50 - Ken Strong

These 7 should remain retired:

10 Eli Manning
11 - Phil Simms
16- Frank Gifford
40 - Joe Morrison
42 - Charlie Connerly
56 - Lawrence Taylor
92 - Michael Strahan
