Assuming players generally expected to go aorund the 25 and 57 range +/- 10 to 15 slots; who would you be very surprised we would/consider taking.
For me, I think Brian Branch is someone who I would be surprised in Round 1, but conceivably sense; and in Round 2, I'd say Siaki Ika, the Defensive tackle.
Schoen mentioned feeling more comfortable with Wink's interest in certain players, while also feeling comfortable with the cornerback room; obviously he's not going to show his cards to the media, but it says something.
Anyway, I'd be interested in hearing about players that we generally haven't considered for Rounds 1,2, assuming we don't trade up or down.
Wide outs are needed and the best one's will be all but gone by the end of the third round
No CB or WR
Would it surprise me if they went TE? Yes
Would it shock me? No
These top guys will make any offense much more explosive and can contribute immediately in what has become more and more a passing league.
I’ll second Mauch. He can play all five spots on the OL, and seems like a guy you can put in there day 1, which as we all know, is tough for a rookie on the OL.
So basically any position not WR/CB/Edge.
Regarding stripping his tender, that's not happening either. It's bad business. You'd be sending a team leader that has done everything asked of him to FA after the money has dried on. You can poison the lockerroom and damage relations with that agency that would impact you later. Teams rarely do it for that reason and the GMs that do, like Dave Gettleman, tend to develop a bad rep with the players. Only exception being if Barkley indicates he intends to sit the season, which highly highly doubt given what we know about Barkley not to mention the stupidity of the move in light of the RB market.
No CB or WR
Agreed, but I don't think you're getting Dexter at 57. A small trade up would likely be required IMO.
Also agree.
As for RB, unless they plan on moving SB, I can’t see them using a pick that high on a RB. Too many needs, IMO, to be used in redundant positions.*
*Of course, the caveat being if a highly rated ER drops, or if the TX RB falls to our 2nd rd pick, then I can see the value being too high to pass up.
I'm convinced Adebawore is going in the first round, after listening to Sy on the Giants Insider podcast.
He would be my darkhorse pick for the first round, actually.
A surprise for me would be any linebacker, Brian Branch, or any of the tight ends.
In the second, I think a surprise pick would again be any linebacker, tight end, or running back.
In terms of the pick that would surprise most people but could be a realistic darkhorse? Another vote for Adebawore. Versatility is key in the front and he can play down lineman in even or odd fronts and might even have the athleticism for standup. A lot of first round buzz recently too.
The dude is a true giant.

We're not that set at edge. Smith has barely played for us over his two years due to injury and both Ojulari and Ward have limitations in their playing; Ward doesn't rush the quarterback well and Ojulari doesn't play the run well.
