NFT: Yankees sign outfielder Franchy Cordero

Jints in Carolina : 3/29/2023 2:53 pm
The New York Yankees have agreed to terms with free agent outfielder Franchy Cordero, according to ESPN. The report indicates Cordero will make the Yankees' Opening Day roster.

Cordero, 28, was with the Orioles in spring training this season, but didn't make the team. It wasn't for lack of spring performance, as he hit .413 with four doubles, a triple and two home runs in 46 at-bats.

In 726 career MLB plate appearances, Cordero is a .221/.290/.386 (83 OPS+) hitter with 35 doubles, five triples, 21 homers, 74 RBI, 91 runs, 13 stolen bases and -0.6 WAR.

He’s out of options so he either makes the team, gets traded or released. They can’t send him down to the minors

My guess is he’s going back to NY so he can be traded. Out of options and they’ll likely use that space for another pitcher at some stage. He’s shown he isn’t a major league caliber player unfortunately.

A left handed bat
mavric : 3/29/2023 4:41 pm : link
to come off the bench. Yanks have been looking for some left handed hitters all off season.

So do you think they'll find one?

Calhoun is better. A platoon of him and Cabrera in LF would be much better than Hicks and still leave Cabrera available for utility work against righties.
Smells a trade could be coming

Cashman usually does well in these situations, bullpen piece that can be put on the scranton shuttle most likely.

Cordero can be sent down as soon as Bader is ready Florial cant.

Cordero is out of options too.
Ah yes, the eternal speed-power of Frenchy
HomerJones45 : 3/29/2023 8:08 pm : link
who then proceeds to deliver neither.

Never mind, I am sure Cashman's basement quant told him Frenchy's ABWobaJr metric was in the top 10 percentile. If only the guy could play.
Who the ef is this
section125 : 3/29/2023 8:11 pm : link
turkey and why exactly is he on the Yankees? Just play Florial. I am getting fed up with Cashman and his stupid low level pickups.

haha, my thought exactly
why is everyone pissing on this deal ?
Ron from Ninerland : 3/29/2023 8:55 pm : link
Cordero is a .220 left handed hitter who gets walks and hits an occasional home run. Not a world beater by any means, but he's a lot better than Florial. There's a big difference between .220 and the .150 Florial is going to hit. Cordero also has options which Florial doesn't. Hopefully he gets his long deserved DFA.

Boston ran him out of town ? That's a plus.

He was let go by the Orioles...and the Red Sox didn't want him - that is not a plus.
Potentially Stupid Question
GruningsOnTheHill : 3/29/2023 10:06 pm : link
If the guy hit .413 in spring training, then why didn't he make the basement-dwelling, shitbag Orioles?

I was being sarcastic.
You’ll love the way

He strikes out on an inside pitch.
Yeah, I don't see the draw either...
BC Eagles94 : 3/29/2023 10:39 pm : link
but it's not like they gave up anything for him. Apparently they liked him more than Ortega and Florial. Can't really argue with them liking him over Ortega. As for Florial, seems like the Yanks have finally seen enough and don't expect him to ever hit major league pitching.
