You can't let good, young centers walk. The fact we can keep him with the flat cap, and all the money we've thrown around last few years, is great stuff. Miller and Laffy are going to have to sign bridge deals this summer as there is very little money left for next year, before the cap starts bumping again the following year.

Trochek was always the superior player of those 3. And there was no way to afford any two of those guys. Rangers found the extra money by going longer term on Trochek, to bring him in. Trochek has been a 2nd line center his entire career. Strome had turned into a nobody, after a promising start to his career, before Bread resurrected his career. Copp was always a 3rd liner that saved his best year for his contract year. Vatrano was a wing, so he was never even an option to bring back as we needed a 2nd line center. Not to mention we got Vattano for a 4th round pick. He wasn't in high demand.

have hard caps you can't exceed. But the NFL CBA allows for much more flexibility with structuring contracts and moving money to future years to allow teams to operate and add players when they're trying to contend.
I was thinking he was going to get more of a 5x6 kind of deal. This is kind of like a modified bridge deal, his contract will expire when he's 27, and he will still have an opportunity for a big payday then as long as he keeps progressing the way he has since last April.

Closest comp in my mind is Jesperi Kotkaniemi, drafted a year after Chytil but debuted the same year in terms of NHL service time (since NYR used the ELC slide on Chytil).
Kotkanemi is similar production wise, but has become an absolute beast defensively and physically (and is improving more and more on the dots). CAR signed Kotkaniemi basically to this same deal (slightly more) but for 8 years.
That would have been great for NYR.
It's hard to compare Chytil to his own draft contemporaries at C who got LT contracts (Hischier, Pettersson, Suzuki, Necas, Thomas, Norris) they're all more productive than Chytil (on average) and better on the face-offs but almost are (except Necas) are getting paid $7M+ (Pettersson due a contract next year - same with Necas).
So, in those terms the money is good, and if Chytil keeps improving his production and getting better on face-offs it could become a great deal in terms of value for NYR.
If the NYR could have got this deal for 8 years it would have been awesome, lol, but I kind of think this was NYR who limited it to 4.

It was completely expected. Teams have the hammer through age 25. You really can’t compare contracts before and after 25. A young guy gets signed and fans always think it is a great deal

I would expect to see Othman and possibly Cuylle next year on the big club. I am also curious to see how Trivigno and Berard develop. The Rangers need more speed, and those two bring it.

They will trade Goodrow if Kane will take a small deal and he just might. He’s made 115M in his career

They will have about 4 million after they sign their RFAs: Miller and Laf.
So, they could sign either Tarasenko or Kane while still being financially responsible. Probably depends on what happens in postseason.
