Giants insider podcast interview with sy

mofti : 3/30/2023 12:48 am
Hey guys i rarely post here. I was listening to the giants insider podcast and they did a 2 hour interview with sy regarding the upcoming draft. Thought there was a ton of good info and spoilers regarding his rankings.

Thanks so much! Can never get enough Sy during draft season.
Great job but two suggestions for the future.

1. Let the guest speak. We don't need to hear over and over, "That's what I have in my notes."

2. In an hour and 20+ min., it seems like the interview was 90% first round questions and 10% second round questions. I would have liked more mid to later round guys to look out for.

Otherwise, very well done.
I could not listen to this whole thing Bro!

Bro, what the hell Bro
I think Bro
You know Bro
Bro......

Let the freaking guest speak! Holy crap.

100% agree Robbie on #1

I had stopped listening to their podcast since about mid-season last year because of the constant interruptions, the 100x 'listen bro' an episode or the painful imitations Bis does of 'buffoon' fans. Almost talking down to the listener.

Tried again because of Sy but only made it halfway through, before wanting to scream...STFU and let him speak. No one cares who you have on your board, whether the guest agrees with your rankings or whether you agree with him on a player.

Wow you guys are tough, I enjoyed it.

Exactly what I was thinking. I want to know what Sy thinks. I'm really not interested in what Chris and Jerry think.
Lol well Jerry

certainly called it when he said BBI would have some things to say about the pod. I love their show and that was a fun listen for me.
I took notes on this...there is some duplication from the other thread

But for those who didn't listen, here are my notes:

Questions about QJ's hands
Thinks Giants love Flowers and is the perfect team fit
JSN is more of a slot-only option, questions his ability to play outside, but would excel in the Giants' system.
Hyatt is a homerun or strikeout pick.
Marvin Mims - not a first round grade but can play inside and outside, could surprise with how high he goes.
Josh Downs - similar to Wan'Dale but thick and powerful. Feels like he's the #2 slot-only receiver in the class. Some questions about concentration and playing against contact.

G/C:

#1 Guard - has O'Cyrus Torrence going to Eagles.
Center - Has Wypler, Tippman, and Schmitz as the top 3, does not have Schmitz at the top of that group. Does not believe any of these guys are going to be considerations at 25. Doesn't think Schmitz is a team fit based on what they asked of Feliciano last year, as he questions his ability to get outside. Wypler he believes can do that.
Tippman a little tall in terms of body-type, but does have ability to pull outside. Thinks the Giants will try to answer the center position in round 3 or 4.

Deepest position in draft is the cornerback group. Expressed what I said in my "4 round mock and draft strategy" thread regarding where the Giants will be at in 2-years at the corner position, and feel DB is just as likely as WR in round 1.

Believes the Love defection to Seattle "is going to sting a little bit." A safety that has nickel corner ability...he has Brian Branch and Jartavius Martin of Illinois that could fill the Love role.

Gonzalez the #1 corner in the class for Dave. Believes Gonzalez in a class of his own. Likes Ringo as the #2 corner.
Witherspoon, Porter, Banks the next group, and has all of the above as first round grades, and believes one or two will be available at #25.

The one that fits what Wink wants to do at corner, trusting a guy to match up 1-on-1, Joey Porter Jr.

Darius Rush perhaps has more upside than Cam Smith. Mentioned Juius Brents (K-State) as another corner with length and ball skills.

Has Emmanuel Forbes as a borderline 1st/2nd round grade, lean to early 2nd round projection. 6 career pick sixes and thinks would be a good selection for the Giants if he makes it to them in the 2nd. Thinks teams shouldn't get too hung up on size concerns if there is another stand-out trait as Forbes does.

Back to Ringo...believes he checks every box in terms of work-ethic and believes he just needs some experience. Has Ringo and Julius Brents as the top 2 run support corners.

Witherspoon - Has him at 3 in the corner group. He doesn't trust his long speed, will get grabby. Excellent when going downhill (heat-seeking missile)...most physical tackler in the group (will miss some tackles). The one question with Witherspoon is recovery speed.

2nd deepest group in this draft is edge rusher and running backs. Thinks this should be a spot the Giants look at (EDGE).

Doesn't think round 1 we'll see Edge, but Day 2 is a possibility, thinks there might be a guy in round 3 that shouldn't be there.

Linebacker group - #4 linebacker on his board, loves Ivan Pace Jr. from Cincinatti. Size/length concerns but is a big hitter, made a lot of plays behind the line of scrimmage. One of the most explosive players at the position in the draft. Has a day 2 grade on him.

Trenton Simpson is the #1 guy in the group for him. Is athletic enough to cover but doesn't have the feel/instincts in coverage.

Daiyan Henley - Day 2 grade, a little high-hipped, but sideline to sideline speed. Balance/stability issues.

Best TE class maybe ever. Says probably should have said TE group first when asked what the deepest position group is. May get 11 starting TEs out of this class, average draft is 4 or 5. Has Mayer as the 3rd TE as he's an average athlete. Does everything well, but no standout trait in any one area. Likes Kincaid and Musgrave more.

Defensive line - Believes surprise pick in the first round from Northwestern - Adetomiwa Adebawore - sees similarities to Aaron Donald. Adebawore a guy that could change a pass rush.

Beyond Carter and Adebawore does not have a first round grade on any other guys at DT/3-4 DE.

Kancey - going to penetrate, has a round 2 grade. Likes Keanu Benton as a big run stuffing guy.

Bresee thinks he has potential to be a guy that can replace Williams for a fraction of the cost with some pass rush ability and potential. Has Bresee as his #3 at the position.

Grazie. I listened to it, but Chris was annoying AF. He kept jumping in. If you're going to have a guest, let him talk FFS.
