I'm not aware of the muscle that they are talking about. Hearing Verlander talk about it, it seems related to a lat? Is this just a very minor lat issue that they are hoping to prevent turning into something like Scherzer had last year?
what happens with ankle/foot injuries this year amongst pitchers and infielders. Imagine having tens of thousands of reps knowing exactly where a bag is, and now the edge or corner of the bag is not where you think it is. Maybe it won't be a big deal, but I can see a potential for injuries to tick up, particularly when having to run to the base, step on the base, and catch a baseball at the same time.
I haven't seen the Fried injury and not saying that it's at all related to this, just a random thought.
You want to get excited about a new season and your star reliever gets hurt in the worthless WBC and your star pitcher gets hurt doing who know what (I'm blaming it on Kate).
but there becomes a point where you don't need anymore character. I was 6 in '86, so that doesn't count for me as I wasn't a fan then. I would like to see a title in my lifetime
Descalfini was the only one to be less than the bulk of two months. He pitched 33 innings that season. Not sure the extent of his injuries that year, but rotator cuff is the only injury mentioned below, so it's kind of confusing. Link - ( New Window )
and it may not be worth much since players are sometimes notoriously the worst at evaluating their own injuries, but Verlander said if it was a playoff game he'd pitch.
But his interview really does make it sound pretty benign.
Of course, its the Mets, who described DeGrom as just missing a few starts after the mid way point in 2021...and he was done for the year. Link - ( New Window )

Was placed on the IL on 7/23/2020 with what was termed a "(mild right teres major strain" per the tweet below Link - ( New Window )

Yeah, I got that part. 10 days missed would put him back the end of August. I know it was the COVID shortened season, but 33 innings while missing only 10 days to injury doesn't add up

Stay fit and eat healthy. Because you might have to live a long life for that to happen.
Already went deep, first plate appearance of the season!
I'm hoping to get Francisco Alvarez late in the draft. We play two catchers, and I think Alvarez will be the regular catcher by the 2nd half of the season for the Mets, at least I hope so.

Whoops, meant to post this in the fantasy baseball draft thread.
sucks but if it's just 3 or 4 megill starts it's manageable
do they have to burn a call up for megill over this?
Quote:
Prior to first pitch of the Mets’ opening day game against the Marlins, the team announced that veteran starting pitcher Justin Verlander will be placed on the 15-day IL after he was diagnosed with a low-grade strain of the teres major muscle in his right shoulder.
The 40-year-old three-time Cy Young winner would be lucky to miss just the minimum 15 days, according to the Pro Baseball Docs.
The teres major muscle is supremely important to the pitching motion and the Mets are likely to be cautious with Verlander given his advanced age.
A return near the end of April would be great news for the newly acquired righty.
Verlander made 28 starts for the Astros last season, logging a career-best 1.75 ERA with an 18-4 record in 175 innings and 185 strikeouts.

would be nice to add on some runs. they've had some hard hit balls off alcantara, the bottom of the order needs to work his pitch count up for the 3rd time through.
last 3 batted balls off alcantara over 100 mph before that out
It’s Megill

Max Fried coming out of game after injuring himself trying to cover 1st base though....

I think Trevor Williams is their #2 or #3.
Building a good farm though.

First pitch clock violation in Major League history belongs to Marcus Stroman.
As much money as the team spent this offseason, I wish they could've worked something out with him.

if he cant pitch here at least he can still hopefully beat philly.

didnt seem like he had interest in staying.
nice turn by lindor doubling up met killer jean segura.
I think he would've stayed if we offered what Texas did. Pivoting to verlander was a really nice plan B, hopefully Mets luck doesn't ruin it.
Degrom intentionally tanking vs Philly to fuck us over.
Hopefully Scherzer can go deep versus a bad MIA lineup because Alcantra is a stud and can go all 9.
Non home run run, probably +250000 lol
in the 3rd, given up 4 runs, a HR, a 3B, 2 2B's, has K'd 5
canha - 108
vogelbach - 101.5
3rd time through the order next inning.
He sure did. Nice win.
