Welp, time for my annual 4 round mock. I don't really know much about the prospects beyond the mid rounds so I'll keep it short and sweet. All in all, the front office seems to have prevented the leaks this year again which is great news. For all we know, Schoen is targeting a linebacker at 25 and not CB or WR. That being said, this draft will be fascinating for where NYG is picking and the amount of "needs" we still have at premium positions. I like to think if we can get 3 starters and a pro bowler out of this draft, we'll be on our way to NFC Championship contention.
Round 1 #25: WR Zay Flowers, Boston College - kid is an electric weapon and can open some things up for everyone in the offense. I think Schoen and Daboll don't necessarily have a height or weight issue with WRs, they want guys who can get open, who can catch, and who are super competitive and good people. Watching interviews on Flowers, this is what I see. Not super cocky, but can tell he's confident and loves ball. Round 1, you need to nail the pick with pro bowl potential/high upside but with a high floor. He's got all that.
Round 2 #57: IOL Steve Avila, TCU - with most of the top end CBs and some good LB prospects off the table by this point, Schoen gets our center of the future in Avila who can also play LG or RG most likely. Seems like a great kid and is very athletic for his 6'3 330 LB frame. I view this as a high floor starter with elite potential under Bobby Johnson. You nail this pick and could argue the OL would be set in terms of high draft capital for years to come.
Round 3 #89: S Jordan Battle, Alabama - as much as we like to think the safety position is "set" - the loss of Love coupled with the lack of overall talent at the positions makes me think its really not, and another reason why I think Branch is ijn the conversation in round 1, even though he likely wouldn't be the selection with the other names out there. Battle would immediately compete for the starting position opposite McKinney IMO. The word I see with him a lot is instinctive, which we can certainly use more of in the secondary.
Round 4 #128: LB Jack Campbell, Iowa - round 4 you need to take guys like Julian Love, they'll make the roster, compete for starting jobs, good teammate type guys who will immediately play on special teams and hopefully one day make can impact on the starting 11. Campbell is exactly that guy and if available in round 4 he'd be great value there. Outside of Okereke, and technically Thibodeaux even though he's more of an edge, who exactly can we count on right now at the LB position? He'll immediately add value to the LB room which is desperately needing some talent, great character guy as well.
So, there we go. No CB selected in the first 4 rounds, but I think that's OK given what we did in free agency, and still have Aaron Robinson coming back from injury too. The top end talent CBs did not fall to our pick at 25, and I decided to go elsewhere with the rest. Thoughts?
I think he is too small, but you address alot of pressing needs with your draft.
Realistic draft in rounds 1-3
I was basically winging it based on the CBS Prospect list. That is interesting regarding Campbell...I think he is a guy that could fall based on the lack of top end athleticism, he might be more of a special teamer out of the gate. I haven't seen him mocked in round 1 but I guess you never know.
Seriously? He's projected late 1st round by just about everybody. Here's Walter Football's projection of him getting picked at #18. Now, he might not go that high but I haven't seen any projection of him lower than early 2nd round.

Fair enough, I do see now Jeremiah has him ranked at 50 overall. That being said, I think he's a guy that slips on day 2. Not athletic enough to be in the discussion for round 2 IMO.

Look, I'd love to get him in the 4th. Just don't think that's gonna happen. I do see, though, that CBS does not project him as high as other sources.
Yeah, check out his mockdraftable chart:

I mean, the 40 isn't bad for a ILB, and honestly, with the size profile and instincts, he's not getting out of the 2nd round, and could be a first rounder easily.
Also, the top 4 wideouts (Smith, Addison, Johnson, and Flowers) were all gone by our pick in Rd 1.
I picked Bijan Robinson in Rd 1 and Joe Tippmann in Rd 2.
