I agree with those who think they will trade up, but I hope they do not. Even moving to the middle of the second round would cost at least a fourth. The only player I would trade up for is Torrence, and he'll likely go in the first few picks. Good players will be available at #57 and #89.

And we're back: The #Steelers are on the clock to get Round 2 underway. They've had heavy trade discussions today with this pick.
Mauch or JMS if we're going IOL although I suspect Tippman could be their top OC prospect. The plug and play aspect of JMS has to be enticing for them though.
Of the last 20 years has had elite testing numbers. Even Jason Witten who people comp Mayer to was super athletic entering the league. People are thinking of old man Witten with the Mayer comp.
1. LB Drew Sanders - Arkansas - can start at ILB Day 1 next to Okereke. Will provide that extra boost to the pass-rush as well, which we could certainly use. Big and athletic.
2, S Brian Branch - Alabama - versatility. Julian Love replacement. Can start at S next to McKinney Day 1 and also play the nickel.
WR Jalin Hyatt - Tennesee - maybe the best vertical threat in the Draft. Needs to work on his route-running, but he has major potential as a down-the-field threat.
LB Trenton Simpson - Clemson - may not be a fit for Wink's 3-4, but a LB with his speed is rare.
WR Cedric Tillman - Tennesee - size and physicality are the names of the game. His best game of the season came against South Carolina and Cam Smith (this was the game where Hooker suffered his knee injury and Joe Milton came in). His best two games in 2021? Against Alabama and against Georgia.

A WR in GB! The #Packers selected Michigan State WR Jayden Reed at No. 50. Jordan Love has now gotten Luke Musgrave and Reed tonight.
add O'Cyrus Torrence also... can't believe he is still there.
Wow. I hope he’s in serious consideration by Schoen.
He'd be my pick, but Sy said he might not be a scheme fit for the Giants because he apparently doesn't get out well from the LOS. But he gave up zero sacks for two years IIRC!

And you IOL guys have O'Cyrus Torrence and John Michael Schmitz still available
I like charbonnet but hawks just drafted Kenneth walker who was an absolute stud.
I get that you can use more than 1 back but I’d have waited if I were them
This guy is good. Size in RBs is not as appreciated as it once was. 20 years ago he would've been a first round pick. glad they left Schmitz on the board for us still.
Hyatt and Tillman are still available at WR. Schmitz is also available at Center. Any of those three would be great. I hope Hooker goes in the next three picks.
We have very good coaches. We’ll get a player that they think
Is a fit for their scheme. Much better than a player that a shitty GM or coach thinks is a fit or that they can develop. I can’t wait to see who we get.

they should really start it earlier. what time will round 3 end ? 12?
Some of you are clueless. This guy can captain your OL. Negatives are that he's a little older (24), not as versatile, and not as big as other players at his position like Avila and Tippmann. Positives are that he's very experienced, is a pure Center, and very intelligent. Value and need lined up. I'm ecstatic they picked him. He'll start from Day 1. Our very own Kelce hopefully (asking a lot, but one can hope!).
Is Dallas only picking Michigan players this draft?
pick but would have preferred Stromberg in the third.
I hear you. Stromberg is impressive. I get it. He's the next Center that should be selected IMO. Fine, fine player. I think he was the guy the Giants had targeted for Round 3, but Schmitz being there was too good to pass up. Bobby Johnson was impressed by him too, so they made the best pick in this situation. I still love Stromberg though. Part of me wanted Tillman here and wanted to try to get Stromberg in the 3rd round, but this scenario is the one we're faced with.

Wouldn’t be shocked if giants move up for a wideout here soon
I really think we're trading up for a WR. There's still some depth there but if it gets within range before they really start to get picked off, could see a move. The depth at that spot also made it make sense to hit JMS where we did.
“ Instant starter at center. Large but nimble. Reach blocks galore on his film. Recovery ability is there too. Not dominant but simply blocks everything. Fills a major need.”
still a lot of wr - dell, downs, mims, or hyatt would be home runs
CBS Sports.... John Michael Schmitz is a ready-to-go center with loads of experience and a nice blend of short-area fluidity and power at the point of attack. Nothing about his game is sensational, but it's very hard to find a true weakness to attack, giving him a high floor. In time, as he adds weight/power, he can be a Pro Bowl type.
Are similar players still on the board. Tillman and Perry bigger targets still out there. Don't think Charlie Jones is a bad complimentary guy to get in the fold early Day 3. Then some upside darts out there mid to late day 3 too.
Maybe? I don’t hate much of anything but they’re the exception.
I guess living down the shore and having so many of their fans around all summer plays into it but it’s not even all that close for me. In fact I’m a Yankee fan too and hate them as much if not more than the Red Sox. Probably more.
a standing ovation. The most fun part of the draft was when the fans hated their picks (Jets picking Kyle Brady instead of Warren Sapp!) I think the draft has gone soft
Ringo and Rush look like system fits. Riley has been connected to us and, while it might be the paint job, I've seen people saying he can play safety too.

Trice in that Ringo/Rush bucket too. Phillips an interesting nickel out there.
That’s a great pick for them. Goff is like the Lions Alex Smith right now. They didn’t draft him, he was a player they took as part of a deal centered around high picks to unload Stafford, and we’ve seen his ceiling at this point.
RE: You know what player I don’t want the Giants to pick?
Tyler Scott. He sounds like a poor man’s version of John Ross.
Scott would be excellent at #89. 4.37 40. Former running back with the moves that go with someone who played that position. Can create separation. Junior version of Flowers. Excellent ST player. Needs to add some weight and get more experience at WR. Limited catch radius and only about 5'10". The Giants apparently like him.

I'm agreeing with you more and more ;>)
I mostly know Scott from his highlights video, but he's got blazing speed and would be a good fit for our offense.
Odd that Hyatt and Tillman are still on the board.

Those were real fans of the teams. The guys going there with their draft magazines. Once the NFL started moving the draft to a different city each year it’s gone from a hardcore fan event to a social event. Now these “fans” care more about the costumes they wear and getting in front of the camera. Evaluating the selected player is secondary now.
for someone like Ji'Ayir Brown who if you liked Love you will love This Brown also. But yes I think they go Jalin Hyatt even though I think I prefer Cedric Tillman.
I just hope Hyatt is not a Darius Slayton clone. I get it that he is a burner. I just hope that he learns the rotary. If he does, it would be a homerun.
Jalen Hyatt!!! Oh yeah, it moved. It moved and it won't stop movin'
they didn't have the capspace to sign 10 players so trading for next years picks or moving up was the obvious move. I wouldn't be suprised if they make a move into the 4th again.
I just hope Hyatt is not a Darius Slayton clone. I get it that he is a burner. I just hope that he learns the rotary. If he does, it would be a homerun.
You know what the nicest part of this draft is? It all just fuckin makes sense. Its not some weird shit, drafting a 9th DE or the 6th WR off the board with the 12th pick or some project guy from new mexico tech state... and a GM smugly telling you, "yeah you dont know shit about shit, but I do, so just shut up."
It just makes fuckin sense. Smart people do smart things. Dumb people do dumb things to look smart.
I just hope Hyatt is not a Darius Slayton clone. I get it that he is a burner. I just hope that he learns the rotary. If he does, it would be a homerun.
He isn't. He can actually catch the ball.
Can he learn the route tree? If he does, it’s a home run.
But we got 3 guys who should start this year at the positions we most need
All the guys Schoen has been bringing in here the last few months means we will be a much stronger team next season
Waller and A’Shawn make those position groups
much better
And there are a lot of other guys that will create competition and depth
It’s been a long time since a Giants GM has done this well in the draft. Absolutely no WTF picks!!!
According to Brugler we got the 27th(Banks), 31st(Hyatt) and 59th (Schmitz) rated prospects in the draft.
I am do happy to see someone who knows how to build a team….

add O'Cyrus Torrence also... can't believe he is still there.
Wow. I hope he’s in serious consideration by Schoen.
He'd be my pick, but Sy said he might not be a scheme fit for the Giants because he apparently doesn't get out well from the LOS. But he gave up zero sacks for two years IIRC!
Steelers having a Steelers draft. Excellent organization.
seattle - evan brown
chicago - whitehair
detroit - ragnow
lac - linsley
jax - fortner
someone else could jump ahead ahead and a few of those guys are older but no obvious team to grab him.
Guy is dropping like a stone. But we should take him. No.

The #Seahawks took UCLA RB Zach Charbonnet with pick No. 52. A classic Pete Carroll pick.
2. WR Jalin Hyatt - Tennesee - maybe the best vertical threat in the Draft. Needs to work on his route-running, but he has major potential as a down-the-field threat.
3. WR Cedric Tillman - Tennesee - size and physicality are the names of the game. His best game of the season came against South Carolina and Cam Smith (this was the game where Hooker suffered his knee injury and Joe Milton came in). His best two games in 2021? Against Alabama and against Georgia.
4. LB Trenton Simpson - Clemson - may not be a fit for Wink's 3-4, but a LB with his speed is rare.
And you IOL guys have O'Cyrus Torrence and John Michael Schmitz still available

Sy gave Charbonnet an 80 rating. Not a ridiculous pick at all.
gimme Simpson
I get that you can use more than 1 back but I’d have waited if I were them

The #Bears at No. 53 selected Florida DT Gervon Dexter. GM Ryan Poles focusing on the trenches.
This guy is good. Size in RBs is not as appreciated as it once was. 20 years ago he would've been a first round pick. glad they left Schmitz on the board for us still.
+1
Tillman, Mims, Ringo, Hyatt, Moss in play too
JMS
Mims
I have to admit I’m wondering about Hooker.
What about the UGA Tight End still sitting there?
Yup.
Inclined to agree. Seems forced.
If we take him will Joes ribs take another hug from Wink

The #Chargers took USC DL Tuli Tuipulotu at no. 54 ... And the #Lions have traded pick No. 55 to the #Chiefs. The Champs are on the clock.
They can’t take all the 4 top WRs left, can they? 😎
KC on the clock in trade
Looks that way...they took Rice
enough to trade down a little to hopefully get assets to move up in the 3rd round to lock down either an IOL or a WR whoever we don't pick in round 2?
Damn.. I was hoping the Giants would get him.
There are so many options. Schoen needs to trade up in the 3rd.

Yup. The whole production of the draft is cringeworthy now. We’re not watching to see Goodell hug players or former players ramble, we’re watching bc we’re football geeks who want to see who gets drafted

Depends on how far you want to move down. I wouldn't go down far if you do that.
I want Shmitz or Ade
Quote:
take Tippman.
Damn.. I was hoping the Giants would get him.
Holy bad internet man... you need faster speed.
A low ceiling center like Schmitz could take the job, but be constantly overmatched within our division. Is that a good pick?
Yes sir. I thought at around 50 I'd be disappointed, but I'm not. 20 more minutes to go it seems till we see who the NYG pick. Who do you want Eric?
Shit.

I'm not the college evaluator. But guys who interest me include AA, Torence, Mims, Tillman.

It's late 2, you don't need to swing for the fences. We got monster upside in our round 1 guy too.
Trade up for a WR is firmly in play next round.
Barkley is looking for a pen!
Great pick here
Great pick here
Yup. Agree..
So the Ef what? Oline last and very long time. Day 1 starter.
Really? Doubt it!

Plenty of safe value there. Torrence and AA in the trenches. Receivers I could have gone either way.

wtf

Lots of guys in this draft are 24. If he plays at a high level for 10 or 11 years, you're going to complain?
As if we are falling behind because we didn’t draft a WR yet...not.
NYG 2023!!
Maybe. But I'm just glad we filled a huge need.
Wouldn’t be shocked if giants move up for a wideout here soon
100%
Quote:
pick but would have preferred Stromberg in the third.
100%
And what if he’s off the board when the Giants pick? You cannot gamble on a player being there when you draft.

I really think we're trading up for a WR. There's still some depth there but if it gets within range before they really start to get picked off, could see a move. The depth at that spot also made it make sense to hit JMS where we did.
Has there been recent talk about McKethan? Or is that just based on him playing better than expected in camp last year before going down for the year?
Quote:
goes Torrence. Would have preferred him to Schmitz, but he's not a center and the Giants are apparently high on McKethan.

No recent talk that I know of. Just that Schoen said he was having a good camp.
Simpson and Sanders at ILB also intriguing
That’s funny
You shut your mouth lol
That's why it was smart to go JMS then.
And the Astros.
Do you know how you know your team made a great pick? Rich doesn’t like it.
Hahahahaha, well done
Disappointed Mims is gone.
Lions gonna have 20 picks at the rate they’re going.
Disappointed Mims is gone.
still a lot of explosive wideouts left.
Quote:
Probably got 2 firsts and the Alamo

They got the padre islands and the school book depository
CBS Sports.... John Michael Schmitz is a ready-to-go center with loads of experience and a nice blend of short-area fluidity and power at the point of attack. Nothing about his game is sensational, but it's very hard to find a true weakness to attack, giving him a high floor. In time, as he adds weight/power, he can be a Pro Bowl type.
Yup, especially Hyatt
I like both TN WR.
Mims seems like a system fit.
Oops...bad gouge...they took Pickens, sorry
One 1st round moch - ( New Window )
Payton will have Mims catching 100 balls in no time.
Anti-military? Nice.
Agreed, whoever takes him is getting a bargain.

Uggghhh... Brown is a stud
Third Round
Josh Downs
Tyler Scott
Cedric Tillman
Michael Wilson
Day Three:
Trey Palmer
Nathaniel Dell
Andrei Iosivas
Elijah Higgins
Rakim Jarrett
The Giants showed interest in Hyatt, Scott, Iosivas, and Jarrett IIRC.
Wilson is an interesting player. Lots of injuries at Stanford but has the size and speed to succeed in the NFL if he can stay healthy.

Maybe? I don’t hate much of anything but they’re the exception.
I guess living down the shore and having so many of their fans around all summer plays into it but it’s not even all that close for me. In fact I’m a Yankee fan too and hate them as much if not more than the Red Sox. Probably more.

Forgot to list him with the other third rounders, but he is mentioned at the end. They had him for a 30 visit IIRC.
that surprises me a little... The Lions love Goff
I think they swapped thirds and got a later pick (6th maybe)
My lord

I'm agreeing with you more and more ;>)
I mostly know Scott from his highlights video, but he's got blazing speed and would be a good fit for our offense.
Odd that Hyatt and Tillman are still on the board.

He's got better hands than Ross.
Damn... really liked Miller... Him and the Pitt RB are two of my favorite.
Someone is finally running that organization right
Let’s goooo
Would have to be a WR
Those were real fans of the teams. The guys going there with their draft magazines. Once the NFL started moving the draft to a different city each year it’s gone from a hardcore fan event to a social event. Now these “fans” care more about the costumes they wear and getting in front of the camera. Evaluating the selected player is secondary now.
Hyatt talked to one of our posters about wanting to play for Daboll.
Great job.
he's raw but he has all the tangibles. only 5 drops in 89 targets.
CB, C and WR done!
All arguably 1st round talents
What did they give up to move up?
We gave our 4th rounder
I called this earlier in thread
Giants want quality not quantity
They think we are close
Our 4th
He isn't. He can actually catch the ball.
We have a 5th rounder (172)
It just makes fuckin sense. Smart people do smart things. Dumb people do dumb things to look smart.
We are going in the right direction.
Quote:
I just hope Hyatt is not a Darius Slayton clone. I get it that he is a burner. I just hope that he learns the rotary. If he does, it would be a homerun.
He isn't. He can actually catch the ball.
Can he learn the route tree? If he does, it’s a home run.
All the guys Schoen has been bringing in here the last few months means we will be a much stronger team next season
Waller and A’Shawn make those position groups
much better
And there are a lot of other guys that will create competition and depth
Hard work and study pays off
You called it (Hyatt) and it has been an amazing first three rounds for the G-men. Terrific given how far down in the order the Giants are.
Agree'd
Got the skills the Giants need.
Welcome to the Giants'family Jalin!
According to Brugler we got the 27th(Banks), 31st(Hyatt) and 59th (Schmitz) rated prospects in the draft.
I am do happy to see someone who knows how to build a team….

Schmitz 37th picked 57
Hyatt 61st picked 73

Love this pick... I thought he was the best Center in the draft.
Doomed!
