kelsto811 : 5/11/2023 8:49 pm
Anyone watching this Celtics/76ers game? Jayson Tatum is 0-10 from the field in the 1st galf and I think they said something like 1-22 in the first half of the last 3 games. He had some terrible turnovers too. Celtics still up 7. Is this a case of the pressure is too high or what, he had some really bad games down the season stretch too.

On another note, Suns lost Deandre Ayton tonight and are now down Paul and Ayton in an elimination game. KD is another one who has not played too well of late.

He was my MVP pick for sure. Him and Giannis were 1 and 2 no matter how you slice it. Jokic makes that team how good it is, he always seems so effortless when he does it too. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Nuggets winning it all this year, though sometimes the rest of those guys dissapear in stretches.
With Tatum it is certainly

not a case of deer in the headlights. Not only is he rebounding like crazy (10, 18 and 10 in the last 3 games in the series, but he has scored 27,24 and 36 points. Not to mention excellent defense and blocks. Yes, his shooting percentage sucks and he is struggling but he is certainly not intimidated. He is a multidimensional player.

Yea, I should have mentioned his defense which was a big reason they were leading at the time. He just seems unsure of himself with the ball sometimes.

Btw, just realized I wrote Giannis but I meant Embiid.
I knew Philly would choke this right back to Boston.

True. As a Nets fan, it is a painful memory. I am content with the direction the team is going in now, but I was salty when Kyrie demanded a trade this year, despite the team winning 21 of their last 22 games with Kyrie and KD healthy...21-1 record and you are going to blow a team up..again.

Anyways I am predicting a Nuggets-Celtics finals and Nuggets in 7

That’s just as embarrassing. So you aren’t taking the time to make sure you fill out a correct ballot?

Let’s be honest Jokic is the real mvp but people just didn’t want to give it to him 3 years in a row. He’s the best player in the league and I don’t think it’s even debatable at this point.

Embiid was a fine MVP choice. I really don't think it was some bad choice to vote for him. Embiid's defensive edge on Jokic is still pretty drastic. But yea, Jokic is just on another planet offensively.

If Jokic and Denver go through AD/LA and Embiid/PHI on the way to a championship, we're going to be having some interesting discussions about Jokic historically. Winning a title in general and we'll have to talk about him as a true legend of the sport.

KD was awful. He was playing so well earlier in the year but this is now 2 straight years of terrible playoff series leading to his team being eliminated. Suns were lucky the Clippers were injured, otherwise Kawhi was looking ready to embarrass KD. His resume is still missing a non-Curry/GSW title, but that's looking kind of unlikely right now.

These playoffs have been awesome. The biggest disappointment is the number of star players who have been injured.

Great mix of the old, medium, and new guard. And a good mix of homegrown teams and star super teams.

KD is 34 and a few years removed from a serious lower body injury that maybe 1 person has come back from successfully + 2 or 3 other less serious ones peppered in since then. This isn't directed at you, but idk what people expect from him...he needs to play a certain role now in the high energy series. But if he isn't making his mid range shots, he becomes a liability. I think he got to play 12 games with the Suns too before their playoff series and the rest of their team depth is piss poor, so that's another thing to take into account.

I accept the regular season as the cost of getting to the playoffs.

This year I watched way less regular season games because of life and work, and honestly didn't feel like I missed out.

I love the current NBA. I think it's a glory years era, and these playoffs prove it to me.

If this was 1985 the best player in the league wouldn't be on an NBA court and would be working a civil service job in Serbia.

by incentivizing young players to re-sign with the teams that draft them. It also makes the superstar trades a lot riskier due to the crazy price tags now - I’m guessing Phoenix is second-guessing that KD trade this morning.

Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 5/12/2023 11:55 am : link
is that so much of their success was based on CP3 still being a stud. When they went to the Finals, he was every bit as important as Booker imo. But he's 37/38 now and a shell of his former self.

The Suns offense without CP3 was just Booker/KD pull-ups. They had no diversity or depth. The CP3 of just 2/3 years ago unlocks that offense and makes them scary. He would've ripped apart Jokic in the PnR, which is something they couldn't do this series.

Suns need to do something about CP3, because they won't win anything until they find a new PG imo.

even if it was partially a result of the media preventing 3 in a row from Jokic.

But there is zero question as to who is better between Jokic and Embiid anymore.

Jokic has taken down the KD/Booker Suns and the Kawhi/George Clippers when they were actually healthy. He was by far the best player on the court in both series. The best team Embiid has beaten in the playoffs so far is the 2022 Raptors. Ok team but the best you've ever beat in the playoffs?

And James Harden... ugh. I'm still a Rockets fan and I'll defend the guy to a degree but it's hard to ignore yet another awful big game from him. Personally, I don't want him back in Houston as it makes no sense. I hope he stays in Philly and I'll be rooting for him to finally get over the hump in the playoffs, but it's hard to ever see the Embiid/Harden duo winning it all.

Harden going back to Houston is such a Harden like move: he wants to go to a place where he can just ball free of consequences & free of pressure to win. The dude is a loser. Flat out loser. He wanted no part of being on the court in Game 7 vs. the Celts.

A decade or so from now, people are going to look at his stats & resume & think...'Wow. Harden is one of the best shooting guards of all time.' Wrong. He's a loser. He reminds me of CWebb in the clutch, when he would hot potato the ball.

But Houston has the strip clubs so James has gotta return.

nygiants16 : 5/21/2023 10:11 pm : link
Celtics are pretty much locked into salaries except for Jayken Brown..

Wonder what they could get if they offered up Brown and drsft picks, problem for the celtics is Brown can basically dictate where he goes
Crazy how non competitive

These series are. The rest of the playoffs was great tv.

The NBA needs to figure out a way to embrace it. They can’t keep hoping it’s a major market team or a team led by LeBron. From my perspective, this finals is sorely needed.
Save us, Denver Nuggets, you're our only hope

I will vomit for days if the fucking Heat win a title with Butler, Bam, and a bunch of schmoes.
Jokic is a monster

Such a damn shame the Lakers and Celtics are a combined 0-7

In the conference finals so far. Hey Larry Bird and Magic Johnson- suck it. Oh and Kevin McHale go grab that stupid towel from a baseline somewhere and cry into it.
I've gotta wonder if Ime Udoka was still coaching Boston
kelsto811 : 5/23/2023 7:03 am : link
If they would at least be competitive in this series, they were rolling under him prior to him getting canned

I never understood this. How about we wait to see the ratings rather than pee your pants with anxiety?

Udoka was suspended before the beginning of the season. Mazzulla was the coach for their hot start (21-5, 35-12).

Celtics' personnel limitations are apparent to anyone who watches the games. Tatum and Brown have suspect handles and can be pressured into turnovers. Horford has gotten old, Smart is erratic and the rest of the team flat out isn't that good.
Celtics up big in Game 4.
bceagle05 : 5/23/2023 10:46 pm : link
Haven’t been watching too much of this one, but Miami was up six at halftime so Boston showed some fight tonight.
...
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 5/24/2023 6:04 am : link
99% chance it won't happen, but I still could see Cs winning this series.
Boston up big in Game 5, nearing the end of the third quarter.
bceagle05 : 5/25/2023 10:05 pm : link
Game 6 in Miami was always going to be the toughest one for Boston to get, but the momentum is building.

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 5/26/2023 6:10 am : link
I think Boston is winning this series.

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 5/27/2023 8:01 pm : link
Ton of pressure on Miami tonight.
Lowry with another dirty play (on Jaylen Brown).
bceagle05 : 5/27/2023 9:02 pm : link
Shocking.
Boston is winning this game.
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 5/27/2023 10:03 pm : link

Jimmy and Bam coming up small tonight….so far.

Heat are 11-46 on TWO POINT shots

I don't think I have ever seen such a low percentage on that many 2 pointers.
Boston up seven
bceagle05 : 5/27/2023 10:30 pm : link
but it feels like it should be more. Keep waiting for Miami to wake up but they might be toast.
Playoff Jimmy looking more like Playoff Julius.

Spoelstra
Mook80 : 5/27/2023 11:16 pm : link
is a terrific coach but that was a monumental mistake not guarding white on the inbounds. Because of that strus never got back to him and never was able to block him out. Cost them the game, and one of the TNT guys was all over it.
Still have no clue who I’m rooting for
bceagle05 : 5/27/2023 11:16 pm : link
but that was an epic ending all around.
Almost an all-time choke

I thought there was a chance Boston would win this after Game 4. I don't see Miami winning tomorrow night. & if so, what a collapse.
Going to be nuts
LauderdaleMatty : 5/28/2023 9:03 am : link
For that final game. I don't actually despise this Heat team like I have in the past. Especially the Lebron team, but they lose it's just about as big a nut shot in NBA history

Not that it was ever gonna happen but some in here can let go of their Embiid to the Knicks fantasies. No way they brought in Nick Nurse to re-build.

very true.

Philly can keep their playoff choker. We have our own (Randle) and he makes a lot less money going forward.

I think the Dubs run it back, which is loco to me but that impression I got from Kerr & Green after the LAL bounced them in the semifinals.
