NFT: NBA Playoffs

kelsto811 : 5/11/2023 8:49 pm
Anyone watching this Celtics/76ers game? Jayson Tatum is 0-10 from the field in the 1st galf and I think they said something like 1-22 in the first half of the last 3 games. He had some terrible turnovers too. Celtics still up 7. Is this a case of the pressure is too high or what, he had some really bad games down the season stretch too.

On another note, Suns lost Deandre Ayton tonight and are now down Paul and Ayton in an elimination game. KD is another one who has not played too well of late.

partly because I’ll throw a few bucks on a game here and there and partly because I’m annoyed that Jokic didn’t win MVP again so I’ve been watching what he’s done this playoffs and it has been remarkable. I can’t believe it isn’t being talked about more.

He was my MVP pick for sure. Him and Giannis were 1 and 2 no matter how you slice it. Jokic makes that team how good it is, he always seems so effortless when he does it too. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Nuggets winning it all this year, though sometimes the rest of those guys dissapear in stretches.
With Tatum it is certainly

not a case of deer in the headlights. Not only is he rebounding like crazy (10, 18 and 10 in the last 3 games in the series, but he has scored 27,24 and 36 points. Not to mention excellent defense and blocks. Yes, his shooting percentage sucks and he is struggling but he is certainly not intimidated. He is a multidimensional player.

And Mark Jackson says he “forgot” about Jokic and didn’t put him on his MVP ballot by mistake. I’d prefer he just admits that he had anterior motives for Lea him off his ballot instead of lying to our freakin faces like we are all idiots

Yea, I should have mentioned his defense which was a big reason they were leading at the time. He just seems unsure of himself with the ball sometimes.

Btw, just realized I wrote Giannis but I meant Embiid.
I knew Philly would choke this right back to Boston.
bceagle05 : 5/11/2023 10:02 pm : link
Why feed MVP Embiid in the fourth when notorious choker James Harden can brick a bunch of shots?
Tatum stepped up big time, props to him

I always thought Boston would win this series but after going down 3-2, wasn't sure. They should be able to finish it.

He's truly unbelievable. It seems like something good happens 90% of the time he touches the ball.
Just another highly productive

triple double with a few steals and a block thrown on top. He’s having a historic post season - really pulling for them to win it all.

on that three point attempt has been a rough stretch. Nets probably win it all that year too if that was a 3. Just amazing what a difference half an inch makes.

True. As a Nets fan, it is a painful memory. I am content with the direction the team is going in now, but I was salty when Kyrie demanded a trade this year, despite the team winning 21 of their last 22 games with Kyrie and KD healthy...21-1 record and you are going to blow a team up..again.

Anyways I am predicting a Nuggets-Celtics finals and Nuggets in 7

I agree, though part me of would love to see a Jokic vs Embiid finals...with all of the MVP commotion this year, that could be epic

That’s just as embarrassing. So you aren’t taking the time to make sure you fill out a correct ballot?

Let’s be honest Jokic is the real mvp but people just didn’t want to give it to him 3 years in a row. He’s the best player in the league and I don’t think it’s even debatable at this point.

I agree about the matchup, but the Celtics would have homecourt if Denver played them. I don't see the Nuggets winning a Game 7 in Boston.

Good point, didn't think about that. Will be a great series either way.

Embiid was a fine MVP choice. I really don't think it was some bad choice to vote for him. Embiid's defensive edge on Jokic is still pretty drastic. But yea, Jokic is just on another planet offensively.

If Jokic and Denver go through AD/LA and Embiid/PHI on the way to a championship, we're going to be having some interesting discussions about Jokic historically. Winning a title in general and we'll have to talk about him as a true legend of the sport.

KD was awful. He was playing so well earlier in the year but this is now 2 straight years of terrible playoff series leading to his team being eliminated. Suns were lucky the Clippers were injured, otherwise Kawhi was looking ready to embarrass KD. His resume is still missing a non-Curry/GSW title, but that's looking kind of unlikely right now.

These playoffs have been awesome. The biggest disappointment is the number of star players who have been injured.

Great mix of the old, medium, and new guard. And a good mix of homegrown teams and star super teams.

KD is 34 and a few years removed from a serious lower body injury that maybe 1 person has come back from successfully + 2 or 3 other less serious ones peppered in since then. This isn't directed at you, but idk what people expect from him...he needs to play a certain role now in the high energy series. But if he isn't making his mid range shots, he becomes a liability. I think he got to play 12 games with the Suns too before their playoff series and the rest of their team depth is piss poor, so that's another thing to take into account.

I accept the regular season as the cost of getting to the playoffs.

This year I watched way less regular season games because of life and work, and honestly didn't feel like I missed out.

I love the current NBA. I think it's a glory years era, and these playoffs prove it to me.

If this was 1985 the best player in the league wouldn't be on an NBA court and would be working a civil service job in Serbia.
NBA has done a nice job of creating some parity
bceagle05 : 5/12/2023 11:42 am : link
by incentivizing young players to re-sign with the teams that draft them. It also makes the superstar trades a lot riskier due to the crazy price tags now - I’m guessing Phoenix is second-guessing that KD trade this morning.
problem with Phoenix
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 5/12/2023 11:55 am : link
is that so much of their success was based on CP3 still being a stud. When they went to the Finals, he was every bit as important as Booker imo. But he's 37/38 now and a shell of his former self.

The Suns offense without CP3 was just Booker/KD pull-ups. They had no diversity or depth. The CP3 of just 2/3 years ago unlocks that offense and makes them scary. He would've ripped apart Jokic in the PnR, which is something they couldn't do this series.

Suns need to do something about CP3, because they won't win anything until they find a new PG imo.

even if it was partially a result of the media preventing 3 in a row from Jokic.

But there is zero question as to who is better between Jokic and Embiid anymore.

Jokic has taken down the KD/Booker Suns and the Kawhi/George Clippers when they were actually healthy. He was by far the best player on the court in both series. The best team Embiid has beaten in the playoffs so far is the 2022 Raptors. Ok team but the best you've ever beat in the playoffs?

And James Harden... ugh. I'm still a Rockets fan and I'll defend the guy to a degree but it's hard to ignore yet another awful big game from him. Personally, I don't want him back in Houston as it makes no sense. I hope he stays in Philly and I'll be rooting for him to finally get over the hump in the playoffs, but it's hard to ever see the Embiid/Harden duo winning it all.
Jokiiiiic
