Eight Teams That Got Screwed by the 2023 NFL Schedule.

The NFL schedule, most of which you’ve known about for months now, has officially been placed in order for you. Thanks to a fleet of corporate sponsors, over-eager TikTokkers and social media gurus, who are free to write checks with their content that players’ bodies will have to cash on Sundays, we now know the exact times and dates of every NFL game.

If I sound ornery, it’s because this felt like a particularly vampiric process this year. There are a lot of teams getting a spotlight they don’t deserve and a lot of good teams being built the right way that got absolutely hosed. For the moment, we’re focusing on the latter. Be it burdensome travel, too much British television, multiple games on short rest or, in the Giants’ case, every circle of football hell, it felt like the folks tasked with pacifying network executives went a little overboard in 2023. Here’s hoping it all blows up in their faces. Join us, for a listing of the most screwed teams of the year (so far)...

[quote]forcing one of the NFL’s stalwart franchises—a team coming off a playoff berth with the reigning Coach of the Year on the sideline—to go on the road for seven of the first 10 games is ridiculous.[quote]

What's ridiculous is reporters still getting this factually wrong, based on erroneous leaks before the official schedule announcement.

The Giants, as everyone should know by now, do not play 7 of their first 10 on the road.

As for the four games on short rest, that is the result of one TNF and three MNFs. The TNF turnaround is for the two West Coast games that the Giants requested be scheduled together.

It is a big advantage for Giants to play AZ early because Kyler Murray won't be back. And they get SF early with Brock Purdy coming off his injury. Oh, the humanity.

For the MNFs, two of the three turnarounds stay in the eastern time zone and the other involves a trip to New Orleans.

Orr mentions the Giants having the fourth toughest schedule by record. That is the source of 95% of the difficulty of the 2023 schedule and has nothing to do with scheduling decisions by the NFL.

There have been years where NYG was screwed but, this year, not really.

Vampiric?

Impressive, I don’t believe I have ever used that word, and can t really recall hearing it or seeing it in print , although somewhere I must have.

I m not naive to the point schedules vary in difficulty due to strength of schedule and travel.

But judging strength of schedule on how many games a team won the year before is an exercise in folly

It s my hope with good health the Giants take another big step forward next season. If that proves to be the case, the schedule will not determine their success or failure

issue is more of an ethical one.

The NFL is a business. It's not a charity. We all know that.

But EVERYTHING now seems to be about squeezing the last possible dollar out of everything. How close are we to "This first down play was sponsored by Liberty Insurance Company"?

The keep telling us these schedules are arbitrary and scientific. Bullshit. We all know what teams they want in Prime Time as much as possible. Thursday games, Friday games, Saturday games, Monday games. Hell, why not Tuesday and Wednesday?!

Or the Line Refs are the characters from Limu Emu?

rather than "vampiric." Actually, "blood-sucking" is an even better term.

Now, if you were thinking of a name for a girls rock band, "The Vampirics" is a possibility. ;-)

I’ve said this before. When does playing on Sunday become the oddity?
Amen Eric. The pigs all have their snouts in the same trough.

Lol👍.

Also, Eric, I agree. Goodell s reign has been good for the owners pocket books.

All else takes a back seat, including player safety and quality of the game.

I agree with everything you say, but I don't think unethical is a fair term. They are not doing something ethically or morally wrong by trying to make as much money as possible. Anymore than I am doing something unethical when I try to buy a ticket for the cheapest price or the numerous threads in past years about how to get Direct Ticket for as little money as possible. It might be stupid or annoying or bad for business. But if people want to watch football 7 days a week, providing that to them is at worst morally neutral and at best a good service.
Well I'd like to say Kyler Murray sucks ass

And is over rated. Playing the Cards without him may not be better. Most over paid and most over hyped player in the NFL. The over layer can be argued but he will retire w as many Super bowl appearances as I have. Well I did attend one as a fan. So he can do that and tie me

I always figured they'd make NFL jersey's look more like NASCAR suits, but having corporations sponsor 1st downs and the like sounds very plausible too.

I don’t think he sucks but is overhyped
Giving him that contract was silly
He does some good things but a lot of his game isn’t impressive
He’ll why not Tuesdays and Wednesdays?

Gotta think it’s in the works!
We know England loves American football.
The European league of American football seems popular but needs more test marketing for the bigger league, but the NFL is already in Germany.
The various European soccer leagues could switch off their usual Tuesday or Wednesday schedule once or twice a season.
Sunday at one will be replaced by Wednesday at noon( or midnight).

It's a funny movie but "BASKETball" was ahead of it's time on this stuff.

This is not entirely true if you consider that having players play on short rest rather than keeping to a weekly routine that has them playing only on Sundays adds to the stress on their bodies and increases likelihood of injury and future consequences later in life. It's a life-shortening sport to begin with and messing with the weekly routine doesn't help.

This is really odd. I was just channel surfing and, for no reason whatsoever, I stopped on league of extraordinary gentlemen. Within 10 seconds the vampire girl used the word ‘vampiric’.
