I got 2 separate texts today from 2 different people saying we traded a 2024 2nd rd pick for him. I immediately went to BBI and nothing. I guess there are rumors out there that people are taking as facts.
One of the podsters was stirring the pot.

Arizona wants to trade him....that is all
Big bucks for a rover

Really like the player and his nose for the football, but X is supposed to be the playmaker back there, and cost-controlled while they build the team for ascension.

What a new concept…😂
Baker wants to be the highest paid Saftey in the league (allegedly) .

I think he is a phenomenal player that any team can use, but I hate having to give up draft capital and then pay a guy top dollar. Buying high isn't something a team that isn't one player away needs right now.

We have been down this road with Leanard Williams, where we were pot committed once we made the trade Williams, giving him all the leverage.

We still have to pay McKinney, and he probably won't cost as much for a proven commodity in Wink's system.

Now if it were Isisah Simmions, I wouldn't mind because we would be buying much lower, if it were for a day three pick, but again, only making the trade if numbers for extension are already in place. I think Simmons would be the perfect hybrid utility player that Love used to occupy in the 'star' role.
16+M cap hit per OTC.

which would need to be strongly reworked, and over 27 and 1/2 at season start, for the 48-64 pick.
Not sure how JS feels about that vs losing Adoree in ‘24-drafting another CB- his current CB pool.
I’m meh on it while building a team, but it’s how close he sees the team to making another big jump.
If he does fit Winks scheme, Wink might never want to be HC again given what he will have been provided.
Would it mean goodbye to SB?
Sure, he can join Hopkins

Maybe we should sign Jets DT as well. I hear he doesn't know who he plays for any more.....

Is X going to be that guy to take the leap? I read that his hand still isnt fully healed. He is also only cost controlled for this season. Maybe they move on from X and his potential next season for a more proven talent. I know X seems to be a guy thats ready to takethe next step and we are waiting for it but its still too flashy and not consistent enough.
Pretty clear at this point
BlackLight : 5/15/2023 3:09 pm : link
that Schoen is just not interested in dealing away future draft capital for pricey veterans, even in positions of need.
You trade for Baker
JoeyBigBlue : 5/15/2023 3:15 pm : link
You give up draft capital and you also say good bye to McKinney in the offseason. No thank you.
No Way

Try to develop the in house talent with our above average coaching staff.

We're going to find out, but I don't see another player with his skill set on the roster.
I think it boils down to a cap allocation decision
JonC : 5/15/2023 5:04 pm : link
and NYG is already paying Dex (and Leo for this season at least), and they've got X coming up soon, and we need they highly value corners and will certainly be adding one opposite Banks before long. So, do you want to flip assets in trade and be paying your safety tandem $30M before long? Can't keep/pay everyone.
s/b
JonC : 5/15/2023 5:05 pm : link
... and we KNOW they highly value corners ...
I think if this move is made
robbieballs2003 : 5/15/2023 5:08 pm : link
It wouldn't mean we keeo both Baker and McKinney. Imo, it would me they are keeping Baker and moving on from McKinney. Imo again, McKinney is the least likely to return of the big guys like him and Andrews. I'm not saying we don't. I'm just saying there are still a lot of questions that have to be answered with him. He needs to step his game up.
You would get him
mfjmfj : 5/15/2023 7:08 pm : link
for two years at a meaningful discount to the top of the safety market. 2/$27, where the top end is more like 2/$32MM+. Don't think it is a good use of resources by us, but not the worst idea in the world.
