NFT: NBA Draft Lottery: The Rights to Wemby

Everyone Relax : 5/16/2023 7:00 pm
Do we have a frozen envelope type situation (Dallas or Chicago)? Does San Antonio begin its next dynasty? Which of these losers will win the rights to the biggest prospect since Lebron?!

plus still have sharpe (maybe simons depending on how they match siakam). could probably go og+ over siakam if they want.

is miller worth a few possible playoff runs with lillard if he wants to stay?

Sounds like they are going win now, GM all but said the 3rd pick is up for trade for a win now piece..

if most of us were in year 2 as gms and we wanted to keep our jobs, we'd probably do the same.

door #1 - trade an iconic player, lose 50+ games each of the next 2 years, probably get fired at that point, maybe another regime comes in and turns the young guys you drafted into a productive core

door #2 - trade for some 3rd team all nba player like siakam, hope to get 1 more good run out of lillard as a 1st/2nd team all nba player, if it doesn't work out make trades in-season to recoup whatever future firsts you can. lillard was excellent last year and he has 4 years under contract that will be his a33-36. i dont think it's crazy to hope for 1 or 2 all nba seasons (he was 3rd team this year despite missing time).

the only difference between scenario 1 + 2 is if brandon miller is some kind of unique prospect way beyond whatever you can get via a different trade of lillard/whoever they trade for down the road. idk know that answer but odds are he isn't.

So Randle and next year's Dallas pick for scoot or miller and whatever filler they want to send back in salary.
Make it happen Ros

gonna be better offers than randle but you're in the right direction.

It looks like a foreign sport from the last century.
The Nuggets steal the ball from Lebron and instead of getting back on defense he actually stopped playing and complained as play continued up court.
Just unwatchable

Okay. Why? Why would they rig the draft for the 30th media market in the country? If it was rigged, LA, NY, and CHI would win every other year...

How does Woj try to say Wemby is the best prospect in sports history? Or that he could be the best offensive and defensive player in the league by his 3rd season? I get he’s a franchise changing talent but that seems over the top.

Better nba prospect than Kareem, Duncan and Lebron? That’s a bit much.

I agreed with the sentiment that he is the best prospect to come out since Lebron. Crazy to say the best in sports history, but he is a once in a generation talent with the ability to do what he does at his size
his ceiling is probably the highest we've seen
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 5/17/2023 2:02 pm : link
but I think LeBron would still rank ahead based on his physical gifts. He was much more explosive than Wemby. He also had a grown ass man body when he was 17. Wemby's size makes him an injury concern by default.

Ralph Sampson is probably the most historically analogous comp as a prospect. 7'3"+ guy with perimeter skills that he shouldn't have. Just insane hype for him as well, coming off that epic college career.

I'd say Wemby ranks ahead of both as prospects too but both of them had tons of hype. Both had much more injury concerns though even as prospects.

I still think Oden would've been a HOFer had he stayed healthy. He's the only guy since Shaq to even resemble that combination of size/explosion. He would've been a bigger Dwight Howard imo. Zion still has a chance, he's really good when he plays.

Why wouldn't the Pacers do that? He would actually fit very nicely there. I'm not sure the Knicks should.

Randle is an all star and 3rd team nba player on a reasonable contract. I have no doubt a team would trade for him.

Because sometimes teams hit a ceiling with certain players and need to trade a guy to improve your team..

Kind of like the Jazz did with Mitchell and Gobert..

Derozan in toronto..

billups with the Pistons..

Hell Melo with denver..

I really think Portland is just posturing with the hopes of getting the best possible package for Dame. There's no move to be made with the third pick that would make them title contenders and they can't possibly be stupid enough to deal the pick for a team that (at best) won't make it out of the second round.

If you trade the 3rd pick and younger players like Simons to get Bridges/DeRozan/Beal etc. It's not enough to win a championship
If you go full youth movement and move Dame do the owners have the stomach for 3 or 4 years of losing

Dame turns 33 this summer so of course it makes perfect sense for them to retool with an aging star who hasn't suited up for more than 70 regular season games in 4 seasons. Sure, trade the 3rd overall pick for the chance to win 45-50 games next season & be the 5th or 6th seed in the West.

Randle isn't toxic at all. He just isn't a perfect or legendary player.

The guy is a top 15 player in the NBA. Fact. Go through the top 20 list and you can find warts on just about every player on the list save for 3-4.

I would consider moving Randle but this myth from the fans is just utter nonsense. Everyone has a hot take on Randle. No one wants to allow for some middle ground.
I mean WTF is toxic?
djm : 5/18/2023 2:24 pm : link
Stephon Marbury MIGHT have been toxic when he was a Knick. The team sucked and MArbs was cooky nutty and weird. Even then, toxic? Maybe.

Randle just helped his team make the playoffs 2-3 seasons and made the all NBA team in both those seasons. HE isn't the best player on a title team. THAT is not quite the same thing as toxic. HE did have a bad playoff game or two or three. And he didn't get back on D after complaining to the refs. Ok....AND? That still isn't toxic. That's a great player with flaws. Big difference.

Anyway, if the Knicks loved a player in this draft and could trade Randle, sign KP to fill that 4-5 spot I might think about it. Probably won't happen.

What likely happens is the Knicks trade one of IQ or Grimes along with Obi and picks for a star SG/SF.

Reason why I am slightly open to trading Randle is I think RJ can pickup a lot of the scoring if it were to happen.
What likely happens
djm : 5/18/2023 2:26 pm : link
should read as what might happen.

I don't know if they trade IQ. I would think the Knicks love him. Grimes is another story but we're talking about a 2nd year player heading into year 3 and the guy plays awesome defense. His upside is all star player if he can get there.

What is toxic?
Chris in Philly : 5/18/2023 7:54 pm : link
A toxic player can destroy team unity, undermine coaches, disrupt routines, and write checks his play can’t cash. The contribute to a loser mentality and a losing team. They’re a virus that can infect other teammates. They’re more trouble than they’re worth. A great player who is toxic is Kyrie. A shitty player who is toxic is Dillon Brooks.
Randle has a nice scoring skill set
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 5/18/2023 8:16 pm : link
in the regular season.

I’d take Sabonis over him. I think that’s the closest comp. Both got a bit exposed in these playoffs but are offensive studs at the PF position in the regular season.

Brunson is fantastic. What a great Knick. Trust me I’m not tryna shit on him. But his time of possession data is too high period. The Knicks need to create a more diverse offense with more Brunson off-ball play since he can also be good like that too.

Randle gets too much shit but hes not even close to top 15

All NBA 3rd team 2 of the last 3 seasons. That is the very epitome of top 15. Literally it's top 15.

HE's a top 20 player at the very very least. ANd he never gets hurt and when he does he comes back faster than anyone.

Giannis
Jokic
Doncic
Tatum
Curry
Lebron
Davis
Butler
Embiid
Durant
Booker
Morant
Donovan Mitchell
Brunson
Fox
Holiday
SGA
Jaylen Brown
Kawhi
PG13
Bam
Haliburton
Jackson Jr

I like Randle but how can you argue he’s better than one of those guys?

Also add Lillard, Harden, Trae Young, Siakam to that list. Randle is borderline top 30
